***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (5 Viewers)

I think what's important to note here is that while we're toiling in this Jox Fox debacle,  Marc Trestman, now 2 time CFL coach of the year, just won his 3rd Grey Cup over the weekend. Never should have gotten rid of the guy.

After saying they wouldn't decrease rookie Adam Shaheen's playing time, the #Bears decreased Adam Shaheen's playing time. He played the least of the 3 Bear TEs on offense.

Daniel Brown played 30 snaps (55%), Dion Sims played 20 (36%) and Shaheen played 17 (31%).

Panther backs were worse than that and lost to you team.  That should put you at 8-2, except you have John Fox as your coach.
This isnt an 8-2 team even if Vince Lombardi was coaching them. This is a team of mediocre talent that occasionally outperforms but usually underperforms. Like most of the NFL. Yes they have bad coaches, but most of the NFL has bad coaches. The Bears are just tragically average, at best.

Good for him.  The Argonauts were 9-9 and that was enough for first place in a very weak east division, which is laughable, especially since the CFL only has 9 teams.

This team is not better than when Fox and Pace took over, and it was brutally bad then. Can't believe that's the case.
I think it's better but needs better coaches.  I see a lot of young potential on the team.  I've liked the drafts Pace has had and hope he has a great FA period this year because he'll have plenty of money to work with.  I'm excited to see if he can have another good draft.  Hopefully he will have some new coaches next year that can light a fire in this team.

Their record says otherwise

Seriously?

John Fox on his team’s penalties: “They actually had more penalties than we did. So I don’t know if that means anything or not.”

John Fox: “I don’t think there was an over-abundance” of accuracy issues with Mitchell Trubisky. Said his poor completion percentage was a total team effort.

Oh yeah, Dion Sims is back... so excited.

They've replaced pro-bowl talent with average players and potential.  If that potential works out we could be better in the future, right now we aren't.  (not disagreeing with you, just adding my 2 cents to it)

Do you miss having Forte, Bennett and Marshall?  I don't.  I miss Jeffery though.

I just don't know what keeping him around helps.  It scares me that Pace maybe hasn't made up his mind yet.  I don't think we'll be any better with him gone, but we'll get to try out Fangio as a HC candidate, maybe open up the offense a bit more as we hit some of the next couple mediocre teams we play.  I really fear playing 49ers and Cleveland with this ball control stay in the game offense.  Those are times when we hopefully aren't getting slaughtered to open things up a bit and try and win with out talent against a team that talent may actually stack up against.

I miss having talented football players who could compete with the elite athletes on the opposing teams.  When you lose talent you need to replace it, and so far we haven't been able to in most cases outside of maybe RB.  Maybe some players will develop into it, but right now it's all still potential.

So good coaching doesn't lead to more wins?  If so I strongly disagree.  I know the players are the ones on the field but preparation and play calling falls on the coaches.
Had terrible coaching back then and still had more wins in those two years than we do in 3 under Fox.  So why are we better now? Is our talent that much better than under Trestman? If so, does that make Fox that much worse of a coach than Trestman?  What measurable are you using?

You could be right. I don't know. Maybe they'll get a good head coach in here and start winning right away.  But for right now, they're winning less than they were under Trestman and with fewer playmakers.  I don't think Fox is a worse coach than Trestman either.  So what's the reason?   Pace is getting very little of the blame here and should be getting the same amount as Fox, except he isn't.  I can't stand Fox but he was put into an impossible situation and Pace gets to use him as the scapegoat.

There are some young players I like who are playing pretty well, but I don't think many of them are going to turn into the stars that will be the backbone of a winning football team like we had at the end of the Lovie era.  Many of them could be good building blocks, but we still need to find the elite ones.  Only ones that I think have a hope to hit that level are Eddie Jackson, Leonard Floyd, and super hopefully Trubisky, and NONE of those guys are a sure thing at this point, though as you say, better coaching may give Trubisky an increased chance (think we have pretty good coaching on the D side).

I don't see anyone else that I think have a chance to get there.  I think we are seeing the best out of Goldman, Hicks, and Trevathan, probably the best players on the team now, but none are franchise defining. Long and Sitton are probably both on the downside of their career.  Whitehair can be great, but a center alone can't make a line, Cohen and Howard are good RB's the likes of which are found every year or two in the draft, I don't think either will be the next Bell or Peterson.  Meredith I think tops out a solid #2 at best if he really is going to be able to fully transition to WR.  The young ILB's are all good not great in my opinion.

Am I missing anyone?

What the Rams have done gives me some hope.

Things are tense today at Halas Hall. A loud argument between players just erupted in the hallway adjacent to the media room. Hard to tell exactly who was involved. #Bears

Yeah...Man, the saint's have had some incredible draft picks and a major upturn in talent since Pace left....hmmmmm.

Big time Argo fan checking in here to say that while Trestman's feats in the CFL have indeed been stellar -- in 6 years as a CFL coach, has 4 Cup appearances with 3 wins, with the other two losing in the semi-final -- and that he absolutely is deserving of accolades...

...it's still the CFL. Vastly different game, talent, playcalling, schemes, etc. What translates into success in the CFL isn't a gimme in the NFL by any means.

That said, I liked Trestman when he was on the Raiders, as he was key to gearing the offense to Gannon's and the rest of the team's strengths, leading to an NFL-leading offense in terms of overall and passing yards, and a good reason why they went to the Superbowl.

I think he deserves another NFL shot, and I would take him in a heartbeat over our current OC in Downing.

Taking the OC gig in BALT with Flacco is a no win situation. That was a bad move. Not sure what he had in Chicago as HC there but he should easily get another shot. Just has to pick a good spot.

The issue in Chicago was more then just a win/loss problem, the team seemed to fall apart from the inside when Trestman/Emory were in charge.  I don't know what is different in the CFL teams, money, egos, Canadians, but it just seemed like the couldn't contain things, and didn't hold the respect of the players and coaches to run a tight ship.  There were more reports then ever of infighting, of players speaking negatively to the media, stuff that normally seems to be held internally and just wasn't.

The two OCs before Trestman in Baltimore turned the OC job into a HC job (Kubiak and Caldwell) I know Flacco isn't a great QB but let's not pretend that he's some kind of coach killer.

Good. I'll be dead before they get through this.
As much as I'd like to see the Bears be awful for the next 100+ years, You guys have to get rid of Fox.  Gosh is he the epitome of safe and mediocre.  I can't ####### stand him.

Also, I hate the Vikings way more than I dislike the Bears, so there's that.

Fox reminds me of Fisher as a HC.  Game seems to have passed them & they don't know it.

such a storied history of the Bears.  wish they were good again & not a laughing stock.  Put 9 guys in the box & Fox calls a play up the gut.  {slump}

This doesn't help.

The #Bears are facing a team entering the week below .500 for the first time this season. The last time a team played 11-straight games to open a season against a .500 or better team was the 1925 Bears.

One thing is for sure.

John Fox doesn't give a rip

Yep,I do think another top 5 pick is going to help in the long run...assuming the next coach has what it takes to develop an offense around Trubisky.  The defense is going to be good for a few years, not very worried about that side of the ball.  This team, with the right people running the show, can be a perennial playoff team over the next decade...time will tell if someone screws that up.

#Bears rookie safety Eddie Jackson on team's frustration: "You can tell people are just tired of keeping going through the same results year after year.”

Mcbride waived after he and Bellamy got in an argument. Meltdown initiated. Bellamy must have some nasty pictures of Fox and Pace together. Mcbride has far more potential than Bellamy every will. Unreal

Bears show once again how pathetic they are. Alshon didn't want to stay here. Bears didn't want to keep him. Bears have worst receiving core in the league. This team will never be any good, folks. Expect more decades of failure ahead

Good for him, he was a good receiver, and that's just about where he should be ~12M per year. He deserved a long term contract that the bears wouldn't give him because of one year of soft tissue injuries.

Hope Wentz learns to throw that high point ball better as I don't think they have that down. Do that and i think his numbers go up again.

Three years years in and the team has #### for talent. Let their best offensive weapon leave and succeed elsewhere.  Trust the process, right Pace? Get out of here with that ####. No one is buying it anymore. I wish they would get rid of Pace but they won't.
