Not at all. I’ve been pretty fair in my evaluation of Fields all season.

Anyone saying he’s inaccurate or hasn’t shown improvement is simply telling me they aren’t actually watching him play and are simply looking at box scores.

That post was dead on. He's a tremendous athlete that cannot work in a structured offense. He had zero improvement from year 2 to 3. The evaluation is over. He is what he is. A losing qb that isn't capable of elevating players around him.

Saying there was zero improvement from year 2 to 3 is just flat out incorrect. It's absurd to actually think that.

What players was he supposed to elevate? Moore and Kmet had their best years as pros. Heck he did more with Chase Claypool in 2 weeks than the Dolphins could in 13.

Mooney, Herbert and the OL regression isn't on JF.

It's fine to not like JF and want an upgrade, but when your evaluation isn't honest and lacks nuance people see through it.

He's 10-28 as a starter. He's thrown for over 300 yards in a game once. Superstar qbs don't need every facet of the offense to be perfect for them to look like star qbs. I'll stand by my zero improvement as a passer comment. He looked like the same confused mess in the pocket in year 3 as he did in year 2. He made the same poor decisions and the same inaccurate throws. I appreciate how great a guy/teammate he is and understand his guys going to bat for him. Means nothing. They're emotionally invested in him. I think some posters that don't watch much Bears football are as well.

Again, his record is overstated. Bears tanked 2022 and produced the 32nd ranked D which carried into 23. They set an NFL record for the longest losing streak giving up 25 points or more.

Fields was a mess last year and looked much improved after he called out Getsy this year. The guy threw 1 legitimate interception his last 7 games and should have won against Detroit and Cleveland. Those losses were 100% on coaching.

No he isn't a superstar and will probably never be. If that's your bar, there are only about 3 legitimate superstar QBs in the NFL and only 1 has won a championship. Are you of the opinion Caleb Williams is a superstar level prospect?

I think this is where I am too. I was kind of leaning maye, but I’m back to Williams. If the bears traded back to 3 and took Daniels I wouldn’t be too upset. Because I admire the trade that got them here, I’m willing to trust Poles throughout this process.

Don’t disagree - Fields has had ample time to show he is a franchise qb. Trade him for whatever you can get and draft Caleb number 1. And if Nabors and MHJR are gone with second number 1, trade down.

I personally like Pittman more than Higgins and would support offering a massive contract to him.

Evans would be an Ideal fit on the other side of Moore, but signing him probably means taking on a year or two at the end where he may no longer being good.

Ridley is interesting. I think he'd be a good WR2. How much he wants would sway my opinion.

Chark, Reynolds, or Noah Brown might interest me in the WR4 role, but it again goes to what the market looks like.

The #9 overall is very much in play for a WR. I think Nabers is off the board by then making Odunze the pick. If Odunze is gone I think Bears have to look D there or trade back.

A fair question is:
If CHI deals Fields, which of those FAs will want to play in Chicago?

I’m assuming Pittman wants to go to a contender, or at the least stick with ARich who looked pretty legit before getting hurt. Chicago seems like a downgrade.

Likewise with Higgins. Evans, Brown, and Ridley.

And with the Chiefs undoubtedly in the mix. CHI is going to be a questionable landing spot.

But again, that has everything to do with what the Bears do with Fields. Gonna be an interesting offseason.

As a prospect? Absolutely. When he's at his best he really looks like Mahomes. Obviously not as strong an arm. I worry if he's up to it mentally. Can he take big hits and keep coming back?

That's not something a team knows until they see him in action. Bears really have to be sold he is mentally right to take them to the next level.

I don't think the Jets are in bad shape. Wilson wasn't the right pick. It happens.

Jets can draft D. A healthy Rodgers takes them at least as far as the Texans went. Even Fields on that team takes them wildcard weekend.

The Packers actually developed Jordan Love over the 3 years he sat behind Rodgers. Same with Rodgers behind Favre. They've had the luxury of having solid QB play while the younger players developed. The Bears haven't been so lucky. It makes me wonder if Trubs could have been much better if he had time to develop as a young NFL QB. Same with Fields. Even a full season of holding a clipboard and running the practice squad against the D could be super valuable. The league is so focused on instant success, though, that player development is just out the window except in odd circumstances.

Trade Fields hopefully for a 2nd rounder. Take Caleb at 1 and either wr or the best available pass rusher at 9.

I've heard two long interviews with Seattle guys now and man they are not saying good things about Waldron. The guy on the Score yesterday afternoon just hammered him.

Lal was with new OC Shane Waldron in SEA and is known for WR expertise

He showed that he could be a great passer. He did it this year.

Look at DJM’s numbers, for example.

But wide open drops don’t show up in the box score. Time and time again, Fields stayed on script, made a check-down, and hit his man. But a ball has to be caught for it to show up positively in the box score.

The Bears had the 4th fewest drops in the NFL with just 19 recorded on the season. Keep fighting the good fight though. .

I have to say I'm digging the trade idea of Fields and #9 to NE for #3. Getting Williams and MHjr.

Would New England really do this? I think it would be a bold move for the Bears. It would certainly get me excited for the season, not certain, though, that trading up should be their philosophy in this draft. I know we always overestimate the ease of trading down, but there are a lot of talented receivers in this draft. If the big three are gone at #9, I would rather see them trade down towards the end of the first and try to grab 2 of them from the group of Tez Walker, Brian Thomas, Keon Coleman, Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Legette. I really like how Green Bay has gone about drafting WRs the last two years, now they have an abundance of young talent.

I don't think NE would really be that interested, but a lot would boil down to what they think of Maye or Daniels. If they rate JF at the same level as they do whoever is left and they still get a top 10 pick in the trade, I think they consider it. It puts JF's value at a mid-second on the trade value chart. They can walk out of the first round with Daniels or Fields and Odunze/LT.

My biggest concern with WRs later in the draft is that I don't think Poles knows how to evaluate WR talent well enough. GB might be the best in the business at it. Poles has spent 4 draft picks on WRs and has nothing to show for it.

2022 3rd - Velus Jones - Horrible pick at the time
2023 2nd - Claypool - I think this was not doing his homework well
2023 4th - Tyler Scott - I liked the pick at the time, but have been underwhelmed so far
2023 7th - K'Neal Harry - I was ok with this swing, but Harry is not an NFL player.

Your point about evaluating WR talent is a very good one. So I guess that could mean take the consensus #1 (MHJr) or take a bunch of picks and hope one of them hits? Either way, I'm suddenly less optimistic.
