Chiefs Phasing Larry Johnson Out of Goal Line & Passing Situations --

Thu Sep 18, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs are replacing RB Larry Johnson with rookie RB Jamaal Charles or RB Kolby Smith in obvious passing situations and when they are near the opponent's goal line. Johnson was in for only one of four plays from the New England 5 in the final minute two weeks ago. He didn't play on the only scoring drive against Oakland as the Chiefs were in a desperate, catch-up mode. Clearly, the Chiefs believe that Charles and Smith are more valuable players in such situations. The Chiefs appear more comfortable with either as a pass blocker or pass receiver.

Herm trying to get to the top of the list of piss poor coaching decisions?

The guy is the best player on the team. Taking LJ out on the goalline is among the dumbest ideas I've heard. Its not like he hasn't shown the ability to punch it in. Unreal.

If they think so little of LJ, why don't they trade him? It's not like he's over the hill like SA or a bad rb like Benson.

OK, while I get what you're saying and agree whole heartedly with the notion, I can't help but encourage you to re-read the bolded part of gasFace's original post. What's going on with LJ in Kansas City is clearly bogus, but they are talking about what is quoted as 'obvious passing situations', not those rare occassions where the Chiefs should be 'punching it in'.

I'd encourage you to reread the other bolded part, too. :football: and, it also isn't as if he hasn't shown ability in the passing game as a receiver, too. Still, it seems shortsighted to pull your best player for a rookie or an unheralded 2nd year guy that hasn't shown much in his time in the NFL.

This is a 2x Honda and has already been discussed this morning.

Basically this is the reporters observation, this news never came from Herm Edwards himself. That really needs to be understood

This is a reporter repeating what LJ himself observed in his post-game interview!

Doesn't mean the coaching staff has conveyed this in any way, except through actions.
