Chiefs WR situation... (1 Viewer)

Here is a blurb from the KCStar from Herm Edwards:

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/14804029.htm

The Chiefs could keep five receivers, and three spots are already locked down. Kennison and Parker will start, and Dante Hall will play mainly in the slot. Edwards has liked what he’s seen so far from rookie Jeff Webb, a sixth-round pick, and he made a point late last week to say Scott McCready had gotten off to a good start after a stint in NFL Europe.

I know some of this (if not most is fluff) but which of the remaining do you think stands the better shot? You have Jeff Webb the rookie, Scott McCready, Crap Thorpe (whom doesn't sound smart enough to learn the playbook), Jeris McIntyre, Darrell Hill, Terrance Metcalf, and a bunch of UDFA's.

I drafted Webb because they said he was similar to Moose Muhammed in that he runs good routes and has good hands with good size. I like Thorpe because he was a stud at FSU but they don't sound to supportive of him. I don't even know who the other people I listed are. Not that the #4 WR on the Chiefs depth chart offers much in terms of fantasy points, but should Kennison or Parker get injured I think they would have a decent shot at putting up some nice points. Dante Hall is NOT WR1 or WR2 material.

I see Kansas City WR everywhere on the offense regardless of who lines up. The article while it brings up a good point do we really need more wideouts? Tony Gonzales is a factor catching the ball. Kris Wilson is a factor catching the ball. Larry Johnson is a factor catching the ball. Priest Holmes used to be our wr#2. We dont need a star to move the ball is what I like most about this offense. my .02

What we do need is a backup rb ( Bennet, Michael), another cb ( Law, Ty), and most importantly a starting FB ( Richardson, Tony loss is huge)

I would put my money on two guys sticking......

1. Jeris McIntyre - he was a 2nd day pick in 2004 and I think has run out of PS time and has, by many reports, developed rather well since they drafted him. They have invested much more in him than most of the others, so I could see them wanting to see if JM can give them a return on their loyalty.

2. Jeff Webb-I have seen KC's selection of him lauded as one of the top-10 values in the draft. Herm seems to like him, and Webb's dad has ties to Edwards.

I am dissapointed in a BIG way by Craphonso Thorpe. I didnt like the pick a whole lot becuase of where they took him (top-10 pick on Day 2, early 4th). He seems to be a case of all talent, no discipline or work ethic.

Also, I wouldnt play D. Hall in the slot...he would be my #5...KC needs him in the return game....his value isnt in catching 35 passes for 500 yards this season. He is paid a million+ to take kicks to the house.

At 33, I think Kennison still has one or two good years in him which means he will continue to be one of the best values in FF drafts.

 why hasn't KC gone after a FA WR over the years.
$$$$...that's why. Every penny Peterson can pinch and put in Lamar Hunts account earns him a fatter nest egg. They prefer to bring in other teams scraps like the Patriots yet for some reason the scraps they bring in don't tend to perform like the Patriots get their scraps to perform.

They could make a play for Lelie, but with the glut they have on their roster I doubt they do much else offensively.

Scott McCready is a foreigner from NFLE that has been an awesome WR over there for a long time. He is slow, not too muscular, yet "right off the bat" could have some of the best hands in the NFL. Could he get open though?

He's reminiscent of Orande and Chrebet in that if their coach didn't give them a shot they probably wouldn't have played in the NFL because athletically they came up glaringly short.

He has bounced around camps the last few years and gone back to Europe not wanting to be a practice squad or 4th 5th WR. He wants to play. He usually leaves with a statement about being with his family and it' doesn't come across as a "I'm walking" egotistical thing.

I'm not sure if any team will ever give him that shot and we'll get to see him.

I'd bet huge $ on a KCChiefs.com or Kevin Ashcraft post telling us about his great hands this summer though

I was disappointed in Craphonso as well but recently have read some good things about him. The Sporting News noted that he has done well in the off-season and is slotted to be the third receiver. Also, I think the Chiefs signed him to a 3 year extension towards the end of the regular season last year.I get TSN in hardcopy so I am not sure about linking to those sort of team blurbs.

:goodposting: Almost always drops down enough to make him a value pick.

KC don't need WR talent ........... look at how many Super Bowls they've won in the last 5 years ..........uh ......... look how many AFC championships they've ........... uh ....... hmmmmmmmmmm

It's because they stink at drafting and they won't bring in Marquee FA's because they don't want to pay for them. When they do spend on FA's they usually tend to spend on the wrong ones (the ones they can get at a cheaper rate). Though Surtain and Knight seem to be OK so far, their rap sheet of FA busts to blossoms is pretty one-sided. They need better scouts or something. Can you say Trezelle Jenkins and Ryan Sims and Snoop Minnis? B-U-S-T. When Peterson decides to take his hand out of the draft planning they will more than likely have more successful drafts.
