I think it's funny that people think it's funny that people take fantasy football seriously or actually like being competitive. It seems like a lot of people either hate men or hate fantasy football which really begs the question about how much they like themselves :goodposting:

Wow. Just wow. I'll leave the feelings about men part out of it. I have no idea what that's about. But fantasy football is not meant to be taken all that seriously. See that word FANTASY? It's right there in the title. You know what's meant to be taken seriously? Reality. Like, if you play football. Then you can "man up" and do something. Or let's say you run a fantasy football website and it's part of your job or career path. But playing fantasy football? No, pretend imaginary football is not something to take too seriously. You can really like it and look forward to playing it without being too serious about it. And as far as being competitive, I hate to break it to you, but YOU'RE NOT COMPETING. You're comparing pretend scores with another guy's pretend scores. It's fun but it's not a sport or a serious competition. Those guys who are on the field? They're competing. To be perfectly honest, people who take fantasy too seriously make me wonder how much they like reality. But to each his own. I think chopping the pot is just fine if that's what you want to do.

never said people who played fantasy football were very manly or that fantasy football is something to take more seriously than real life matters. think i said that in a previous post. this isn't an either or situation, there's an acceptable range here without going to extremes. regardless of my own feelings, i don't insult the game that i enjoy playing or insult the people who play it and want to win. that's why i made that comment. this is a forum for fantasy football sharks is it not? as for the part about men, if you really want to know, people keep throwing the words "macho" and manly around here like it's some sort of bad thing and that men need to evolve. i'm just being honest here, i say it like i see it and well, being a logical guy i said fear of losing money is the main reason why someone would chop and i have yet to hear logical opposition to that other than people are being macho or taking it too seriously. Personally, those don't cut it as logical arguments to me. i'm not saying being afraid is wrong but that people should just admit it and get over it rather than making posts with polls and trying to rationalize that there are other reasons to chop so that they can feel better about it...

Fair enough. What you see as insulting I just see as putting in perspective. I can't imagine that anyone here doesn't like fantasy football. As far as fear goes, I see it more as reducing risk. I could say people come here for "fear" that they won't do as well in their leagues without some kind of help. But in reality, they think it reduces their risk of loss and improves their chances of doing better. Likewise, I don't see chopping the pot as fear, but rather taking some control over things you don't really control.

A guy can be competitive, but would they try to destroy their son in a game of checkers or on the Wii? Probably not. The game is just a game. To a lesser degree, fantasy football is like that. You want to win but not to the point where you take it too seriously. If losing in fantasy football messes a person up for weeks-- because they took it seriously-- something is wrong imo. That's not being manly or macho. That's having a poor perspective regarding a fantasy game.

I don't know what makes a shark a shark-- I'm sure I'm not one-- but I can't imagine taking it too seriously is a good idea. It probably leads to poor decision-making.

I'm just amused that people label it a "pansy move" and the owner should "man up" and play...when we're talking about pretend football. That's like telling someone to "grow a pair" and send their 50th level paladin to fight that dragon. Chopping a pot is just as manly as not chopping it. It's an imaginary team comparing numbers with another imaginary team. There's no cool way to play it, so do whatever makes you happy.
I already made this point. It was ignored. I think it hits to close to home for a lot of them.
I understand this viewpoint, that Fantasy Football is completely nerdy anyway so why take it seriously?Well then, to both you guys, why do you read and post on a forum completely dedicated to fantasy football knowledge? Obviously on some level you take the game seriously enough to spend part of your day reading what other people think about it, and my guess is that you have been checking the site semi-regularly throughout the season. Therefore, with all this time you put into it, why settle for less? Since its such a nerdy waste of time, why not say F-it and go for broke? Splitting the pot tells me you are scared of losing in a FAKE SPORT, and if you are scared of losing in a fake sport then you have bigger problems than the rest of us nerds.

I do not see any one calling it a waste of time. It's gambling (even as defined by the government), chopping pots happens all the time in gambling and it is often a very logical and shrewd move.Owners still get bragging rights if their team wins, they just split the money. I think many of us consider money secondary to actual league championships.

don't think it has anything to do with being scared. It has to do with the money. Some people don't want to bet several hundred or even several thousand on a coin flip. If the diff between 1st and 2nd is large and the game is a coin flip or in your opponents favor, i think it's a smart move to hedge yourself. Don't see why its pansy at all.

It's real money on the line in this fake sport.
