Chris Draft to MLB in St. Louis? (1 Viewer)

Draft likely new MLB

Wondered about this last week...

Chris Draft is back from a broken foot and looks to be getting plenty of work with the first team at MLB this week.
I know Witherspoon has been hurt this year, but he has fallen off significantly in skill from the last couple of years. Every game I have seen the Rams play, he can't get off any blocks and seems overmatched. I rostered him the last couple of years and he was a legit LB1 every week despit being an undersized player at the position. How do you see Draft filling the MLB spot in STL this year and possibly next?

Probably another stopgap here in another situation where you may see a complete overhaul by 2009. Even if Haslett stays, there've been rumors that the Rams want to move Witherspoon outside and there's always been an undercurrent that Haslett may want to install more 3-4 looks (given his background).Draft is a solid all-around backer, but nothing special and he'll be 33 entering the 2009 season. There are all kinds of interesting linebackers who may hit the free agent market in March. It's going to be a very, very interesting offseason -- all kinds of coaching changes, scheme trends, player movement -- and it always begins in December when the poo starts to fly on the weak sisters in the league.

well the all important question for Draft this week is will he stay on the field in nickel/dime? besides the fact that the cards pass so much they are also in 3WR sets much of the time. i can remember draft being ok in pass coverage before but coming off a foot injury(and 33) will he stay out on the field? Pisa stays on the field and witherspoon 'did', does draft stick or does witherspoon come in and steal some snaps like he reportedly did last week?

I don't have any hard evidence but I think that Draft will leave on passing downs. Witherspoon has already been going out on 1st and 2nd and only playing passing downs for the passed couple of weeks because of injury so it's only natural that he's probably going to keep that up. He's more athletic then Draft is... Draft has size though... what the Rams LB corps are lacking. I think they want Draft in to stop the run, limit the holes then Witherspoon will use his athletic ability in the nickel/dime packages.
