Chris Henry a likely cut? (1 Viewer)

OK, I came in on the middle of the conversation but it was a caller to the afternoon blitz (Solomon Wilcox and someone else) and they were discussing the Bengals' discipline problems, and they were wondering who was going to be the example. The caller asked if it was going to be Henry and the hosts said something to the effect of "we can't confirm or deny that, but don't be shocked if it happens."

Well, I doubt anyone would be truly shocked, but they hesitated when they said this as if they had some inside info that they couldn't reveal. Showmanship or reality?

Supposing they are sitting on a little nuggett and Henry is cut before camp, it brings to mind a few questions:

Will Kelley Washington step into the third receiver role, or could we see more of Chris Perry in this role for 2006? Would that increase Perry's stock in ppr leagues considering he's already in on most of the halfback passing plays?

What happens to Henry if he is cut? I know the Bears could use a receiver with skills, and there are probably a few others out there, but who would be willing to take a chance on him now?

Henry will not lack suitors. His play on the field warrants being a Round 1 pick and he did nothing to doubt that in 2005. Like the Bengals did in the 2005 draft, someone will take a shot on him.

Here's an idea. Shanahan has always been willing to take chances on guys like Romanowski,Clarett. How bout a Lelie for Henry swap? I know Denver wanted a TE but Henry is talented if still a turd.

IIRC, the Bengals cannot cut Henry as long as he is injured/on an injured list (CBA item). I think that was in one of Joe's e-mails a couple of weeks back. I think Joe said something like, "He's going to milk his injuries so as no to face the music", or something like that.

why trade? just wait till he's cut.

Would that prevent him from being cut?
Sorry, I wrote my post horribly. My concern was more with would some other team want to sign him if he was going to be suspended.

No, that will not in anyway prevent him from being released to my knowledge.

It's not going to happen. The guy has #1 WR, All-Pro talent. He's looked great in camp. He'd be starting on 3/4 of the NFL teams right now.

I hope he can grow up (who knows if he will or not) because it will be great to see him on the field for years to come. We've all been burned by the Onterrio Smith's and Lawrence Phillip's of the world......they also cost you an arm and a leg to obtain. Henry won't. I'd certainly prefer him to the others ranked in the 50/60 range of WR's (none of whom have #1 WR upside).

I was sure I read that as well.

Chris Henry was featured in the Bengals' scrimmagePublished Sat Aug 5 10:28:00 a.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Chris Henry was featured in the Bengals' intrasquad scrimmage Friday.

Impact: Henry made five catches for 117 yards. Now healthy, it appears Henry will not be cut as many had concluded following his string of arrests.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he's noticed more maturity from Henry

Published Wed Aug 2 1:08:00 p.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he's noticed a "maturity" in Chris Henry during training camp.

Impact: Well, he hasn't been arrested for almost two months. The comment is noteworthy because the Bengals were thought to have given up on Henry, who is still awaiting a few trials. It looks like he can still make the team.

that might be going a bit far.he has obvious talent though, and that alone will keep you on an NFL team. (as long as you're not publicly arguing with your QB and coach.)

Perhaps it is, but that's the kind of talent I believe he has.More importantly, I'm just saying there's no real risk to acquire him. People can guesstimate on the likelihood he'll stay out of trouble. When I can get a guy with the potential he's got for peanuts in a dynasty league, I'm doing it.

If his dumb ### could stay out of trouble him and 85 on the outside with Housh in the slot.... ah.. why do dumb people get so much talent.

A guy in one of my dynasty leagues dropped him after there was talk of him being cut. I was happy to pick him up, only cost me Robert Furgeson.

I don't think I've ever seen this before.

he's doing real real well. At the moment he's closer to pushing Housh for a starting job. Not saying it will happen but he's doing that well that if he keeps it up the Bungles will have to entertain that thought this year. If he gets arrested again, Marvin could throw a fit and cut him.

i haven't heard anything about him pushing for the #2 spot, but he looks more like a #1 than a complimentary #2, so my guess is that he'll stay in the #3 role.i've never heard of such a thing for WR, but could he be a Chad Johnson handcuff?

Henry is one of the most talented WR3s in the league. Frankly, his talent is not in question anywhere that I have seen. As a WR6 in a dynasty league (as someone mentioned above) he's WELL worth hanging on to.

closer to pushing Housh than getting cutIF he continues to do real well

is he or can he play in the Preseason games? like Odell? they are suspended for 4 games during the season, how does that apply to the offseason?

Yeah, he looked really good. Put Palmer in there and him and CJ are going to scare the ##### out of DBs for years to come. Can't double cover both of them.

Said it months ago, will say it again. They should have traded to San Fran whatever picks they wanted for the chance to take Vernon Davis. San Fran needed alot and the picks would help, Eric Johnson was healthy at the time and....oh my would they look like the greatest O "on paper" if they did

Henry was really good last night - that big frame in the red zone is tough for any team to deal with. I sure as hell hope he grows up as a man - way too much talent to go to waste like that :(

damned wife "is football on EVERY NIGHT?!" so i turned it off...

Comparisons are thrown around about upcoming players all of the time, but when watching him play, it actually sometimes seems a bit Moss-esque, which is what many have compared his skill sets to (including Carson Palmer the other day).

I got that comment on SATURDAY, and considering I missed the HoF game and Thursdays games, I was a little perplexed. Of course I told her, "It's going to be a LOOOOONG six months around here..."

As much as Henry played last night, I wonder if they were trying to show him off as trade bait.
As crazy as it might be to rely on Henry, it would be even crazier to give up a draft pick in order to rely on Henry. He's talented, but I'd venture to guess that Cincy couldn't even get a 4th rounder for him right now. No one wants another Clarett/Onterrio/Ricky.

I don't believe so. No reason at all to deal him. He missed most of the offseason workouts recovering from his knee injury & I'm sure they want to view him in game situations. He's looked spectacular in the scrimmage and 1st preaseason game. They aren't getting much for him. Talent-wise, they'd be nuts to take less than a 1st rounder for him. No one is giving them that or anything close to it. If he messes up again, just cut him. I think they're 100% correct in going with him. I think he's far and away the best #3 WR in the league.

Good to know. I hadn't really been following him and was surprised to see him take so many snaps last night. I guess they just wanted to get him some work.

Chris Henry is also suspended 4 games? Oh well, at least I have a few other WRs I can play in his place until he returns.

The Bengals offense isn't suited for a TE such as Vernon Davis. With guys like CJ, TJ, and Henry the TE won't see a lot of throws coming his way.

Bengals | Henry thinks sore hamstring is related to knee injury

Published Tue Aug 22 10:39:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry (hamstring) believes the soreness in his hamstring is related to the torn posterior cruciate ligament he suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs last season, "It just gets fatigued. I've got to get my strength up in my quads. I can do everything, but I get tired quick." Henry practiced Tuesday, Aug. 22, but is still questionable for the game against the Green Bay Packers Monday, Aug. 28.

Explains why he can't out run the law.

Henry back in the fold

Published Wed Aug 23 9:07:00 a.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Bengals WR Chris Henry (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday.

Impact: Henry missed a preseason game and multiple practices. His play in training camp was exceptional, so he probably has the inside track to be Cincinnati's third receiver, if he's not suspended
