Given his absence, and the fact that he might not be around long, does Chris Henry have any real value this year. If he plays football the next 4 or 5 weeks will he surpass Chad or TJ in production? Is he that good?

Whats the deal with Henry this week? I'm f'ed at WR this week with Roy Williams and Chambers (not that he'd do anything anyways) both out. I picked up Gabriel but I'm looking for a better option if available.

Henry is a game time decision on whether Marvin Lewis decides to play him or not, Gabriel is a good bye week filler.

Oct 25. Chris Henry returned to practice Wednesday, but hasn't been activated by the Bengals. His suspension is over, but the team has a roster exemption until Monday. It's uncertain whether Henry will play Sunday. Antonio Chatman is listed as questionable, so Henry would likely play if Chatman is out. More: Cincinnati Enquirer

WR Chatman Downgraded, WR Henry May Be Activated?

Mark Curnutte, Cincinnati Enquirer - [Full Article]

WR Antonio Chatman was downgraded to doubtful yesterday and is unlikely to play Sunday. With Chatman probably out, WR Chris Henry might be activated to No. 3. Henry practiced again Thursday but has not been activated to the 53-man roster yet. HC Marvin Lewis declined to comment on Henry after practice Thursday. The Bengals have until 4 p.m. Saturday to place Henry on the roster, which would make him eligible to dress Sunday. LINK

If he has served his team and league suspensions, the fact that he practiced Wed and Thu, his in-game productivity to date, and given CIN's lack of WR depth, I'd expect Lewis to play him and be very happy doing so...activation seems like a formality to me which we'll see shortly if he's practicing.

I would agree. The guy HAS to play. From Marvin's prespective, why tell Atlanta now that he's going to be in the lineup?

I agree

just as a naside - Chatman has been put on IR - ending his season. Tab Perry is done too, Kelly Washington has a bad hammy - Perry HAS to play.

Henry to play with Chatman on IR

Henry

For the second straight Friday the Bengals put a wide receiver on season-ending injured reserve when Antonio Chatman was lost for the year and activated Chris Henry to take his place on the 53-man roster.

Head coach Marvin Lewis said Henry is going to play Sunday against the Falcons with Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh his only other healthy veterans. Chatman and Tab Perry (hip) are out for the year and Kelley Washington (hamstring) is out for the second straight game.

Lewis said rookie defensive back Ethan Kilmer, a wide receiver at Penn State, has been taking snaps at wideout for the past two weeks.

But there are no indications the Bengals are going to sign Peter Warrick before a game in which he couldn’t have played even if he’d joined the club Wednesday. Reached after the Bengals practiced Friday, Drew Rosenhaus, Warrick's agent, said the club told him Thursday night they are holding off at the moment.

"They said they're going a week at a time with Peter," Rosenhaus said. "Peter is going to stay in shape and we hope we get that opportunity."

The Bengals also lose another receiver if they again make rookie Reggie McNeal the third quarterback for the third straight week. Glenn Holt, a free agent rookie from Kentucky looks like he’ll be suited up for the second straight game after coming off the practice squad.

Running back Chris Perry can also line up some at wide receiver.

Chatman, who came over from Green Bay in free agency, has never been right since he pulled a muscle in his groin/abdominal area on the first weekend of training camp. He hardly ever practiced and played in one preseasn game before making his regular season Bengals debut in Week 4 against the Patriots.

He caught a big third-down pass last week before finishing the year with just three catches for 22 yards.

But he also returned punts and kicks, duties that appear now fall to Keiwan Ratliff and Kenny Watson, respectively.

Henry has missed the last three games, the last two because of a suspension for violating a variety of NFL policies. Henry missed the Oct. 1 loss to New England when Lewis chose not to dress him after he was in the same car when linebacker Odell Thurman was arrested for a DUI.

It will be interesting to see if the Bengals get out of the offensive funk with Henry in. I don't see how anybody can stop that 3 WR set. Add Perry, and this team might get scary down the stretch.

Might?Yeah Henry will play whenever he is allowed. This is due to a # of reasons: 1. Carson Palmer (and other important teammates) is/are on his side.2. The offense is so much better with him in. 3. He's been well-behaved since the Thurman fiasco. I know this won't mean much to you guys, but being away from football for 2 weeks, he could have done something very stupid but didn't. Maybe he's starting to get it. 4. The NFL hasn't officially done anything to prevent him otherwise. This is what Marvin seems to go by. I'd start him if you have him this week. He'll be open with CJ going against DeAngelo Fall(and safety help I'm sure) T.J drawing the other coverage, and Perry out of the backfield. I'll say 50+yds and a TD.

Im in a keeper league and he is available... am curiouse what others think of him for the next couple years?

I was thinking of picking him up and holding him to a 2 year contract, so I could always drop him next season.

Whats your thoughts long-term on Henry???

High risk/high reward. I have him in most dynasty leagues and I'm hoping I don't regret it. If he had 6 TDs as a rook, how many can he grab in a full season? With the #1 DB covering 85? It's just unfair. If he can get his head out of his ###, he could be a good #2 boderline #1.

Wow...he hasn't gotten arrested for two weeks.I say we give him a humanitarian award.

I've heard him compared to T.O. physically. T.O. took a few years to develop into an NFL star. Henry, if he gets his head on straight, I'm hoping will do the same.

For Henry, being away from football, two weeks is a lot for him to behave it seems. I didn't say he's a model citizen yet...but maybe he's finally starting to get it after he was suspended and Thurman was benched for the year (and maybe career in Cincy) I just am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Henry is more comparable to Randy Moss :o TO is bigger and makes his living after the catch. Henry and Moss are built very similarly and have a knack for catching the long ball. Plus Moss and Henry seem to have a similar attitude problem, only Moss is more detrimental to the team it seems than Henry has been, although I guess that could change IDK. Aside from the arrests, Henry hasn't done anything to distract the team by demanding more balls, being an ### to teammates, etc.

So what are the chances Henry's active but barely gets on the field? Or does Lewis believe he has learned his lesson and is ready to contribute again? Just wondering based on how non-committal Lewis was regarding Henry's role this week:

Lewis declined to expound on what role Henry would play against the Falcons or whether he was satisfied with how Henry reacted to his three-game absence.

Having watched Henry not only with the Bengals, but with WVU I can't defend the guy. He's been an idiot for several years. Lewis's comment about not having to worry about guys taking off their helmet or doing other dumb #### on the field with Henry out made me laugh. I'm not sure if he EVER caught a TD at WVU without also getting a 15 yard penalty for celebrating or taking the helmet off.

Having said...it has REALLY surprised me that Henry has kept his mouth shut and done his part to get through the month (not two weeks) away from football without causing any more problems. Not so much that he hasn't been filmed puking out a car window again, just that he hasn't said anything in the press or burned his bridges with his teammates.

Palmer obviously loves the guy and I'd be surprised now if he isn't a BIG part of the Bengals' O for the rest of the year.

I was about to post similar response. Yeah, he hasn't had sex with any 16-year-old girls or thrown up out of any cars in two weeks. Sign him up for a United Way commercial.

That we know of anyway...I'm a Henry owner but the guy is a train wreck.

Lots of useful information in here.

Last time I checked, my fantasy league didn't award good guy bonus points. Henry is the key to the Bengals passing attack. Expect over 75+ yards receiving and at least 1 TD from the  incarnate. CJ will garner all the attention, but Henry is the toughest WR3 assignment in the NFL.

Henry is now averaging 5-87-1 over his last three games. It's rare a No. 3 WR can be considered a weekly starter but Henry's looking like he could buck that trend. The guy's a major league tool off the field but he's got huge talent and Palmer definitely trusts him.

Is there still a league suspension looming over his head for the off season arrests? I know the last one was for the latest incicent, but was it also the league responding to his other issues?

Unknown. He's got another hearing after Week 11 or 12, but IIRC he's probably going to beat the rap on that one because the prosecution's evidence on the breathalyzer is bad. The last charge has dropped off the radar for quite awhile now. I think it's more likely than not he'll make it through the end of the season now.

Thanks. I had a feeling he was going to slide this year and deal with it off season. I'm gonna look up that hearing, but did you have any links of where you got this?

No links, just going from memory. Two of the four cases are done, and one of them looks shaky b/c of bad evidence.

The other one is something like he took two underage girls from Ohio to Kentucky for a party. But apparently they were friends of a third girl who was of age and brought them along. I think it's the older one that accused Henry of something (rape? assault?) and subsequently had an arrest warrant out on her for filing a false police report (apparently she was lying about Henry).

So it's fairly complicated and I think the prosecutors were still trying to put a case together or something. Or that could be totally wrong. It's been a long time since I've seen anything on that case and the details were always fuzzy. But it's hard to imagine that it would be resolved in time for another suspension this year.

I think there is still an issue regarding his latest arrest, where a judge in a previous case had ordered Henry to stay away from alcohol as part of the sentencing agreement. I believe the judge is now seeking information about his latest arrest where Henry is seen puking out the back window. Maybe I am wrong or getting things mixed up...
