NFL suspends Henry for next two games

Henry

As they were last Sunday, the Bengals will be without wide receiver Chris Henry for the next two games after the NFL suspended him without pay for violations of the league’s personal conduct policy and substance abuse policy. He's also been fined $20,000.

Henry, who has pled guilty to possession of marijuana and a gun charge in the last six months, was benched by head coach Marvin Lewis in the 38-13 loss to the Patriots after he was discovered in a car in which teammate Odell Thurman was arrested for driving while impaired.

Thurman’s four-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy was extended to a year following the arrest hours after the Bengals’ 28-20 victory in Pittsburgh Sept. 24.

Henry, who can't practice for the next two weeks, is going to miss next week's game at Tampa Bay and the Oct. 22 home game against Carolina.

Chatman played some against New England, and he should be 100% now. I think he'll see more action then Washington.

Bump Kelly Washington?
Wondering too, if that wouldn't be a sneaky play this week.
That would be a Super Super Sneaky play this week since the team is on BYE.No one would ever see it coming!
:lmao: I was thinking for more like next weekend. I'm thinking he'd be a nice week 6 filler for my team of byes.
That's a good point. They play the Bucs in week 6, and they didn't defend the pass so well in week 3 against Carolina.

I actually think this is a good thing for the Bengals. They need Henry to get his act staright and maybe this will get his attention.

If I were the Bengals, I'd want to keep this guy busy.

Who knows what kind of trouble he's going to get into since he doesn't have to practice or play for the next three weeks.

He'll probably be doing alot of this ... :banned: :suds:

... and then maybe some of this... :drive:

... which will result in this ... :tfp:

Who couldn't see THAT coming...glad I picked up Doug Gabriel instead.

Henry should not be on many waiver wires...he played well against Pitt last year, and Cin had injury ???s all over the board at WR going into this game. That being said, I heard that his legal situation is being reviewed by the league office, who will hand down a suspension for violations of their personal conduct policy for his multiple arrests...will likely be four weeks max, but something to consider before you build your passing game around a guy who is a #3 WR on a good day.Just a thought.

Bump.

Considering the Titans may essentially fire Haynesworth, any thoughts on whether the Bengals may follow suit and, say, bench Henry even after he returns?

Highly unlikely, he has too much talent.
The Bungholes would snatch up Haynesworth in a nano second, fits their team perfectly, plus they need as much run stopping help as they can get...
taz was asking if the Bengals would bench Henry, not if they would hire Haynesworth.

You don't say..... :jawdrop:

Ok, smartass, just wondering why you responded to my post with a non-sequitor.

I am interested in the same question: is Henry worth rostering now during his suspension or will he be benched and not worth much after he returns. Will the team lose confidence in a guy they can't count on to stay out of trouble and basically ignore developing him into a viable starter?

Marvin doesn't strike me as a harsh discipline kind of guy. I think when Henry comes back from suspension he slides right back into the #3 slot.

My guess is that a three game suspension (one from the team and two from the NFL) will be viewed as adequate punishment for offenses to date and that he'll be given a chance to prove he wants to play badly enough to 'play the way' Lewis is asking him to.

But he's on a short leash and he's an utter bonehead, so who knows what he'll do with the opportunity?
