Absolutely blew up Week 7. I missed the game. Anyone think this isn't a fluke? I'd love to resolve my DL weakness with a WW steal.

Snap count has risen dramatically since the Wilfork, Kelly injuries. (50% week 5 ->100% week 6 -> 95% week 7). Had 1.5 sacks week 5 which points to trend not fluke. 5-5 tackle stats last week definitely a matchup thing with the Jets running it a ton. Do not expect the same results vs Miami. They will abandon the run at the drop of a hat, but they also give up plenty of sacks.

Wilfork is done, but not sure about Kelly's status going forward. Good luck getting injury info from the Pats. Joe Vellano is the other starting DT there, right now. Both he and Jones are rookies (Vellano undrafted, Jones 6th rd). No clue which would sit for Kelly. Most likely it would remain a rotation.

Don't know if it matters or not, but Chris Jones was the culprit on the penalty that gave the Jets the game last week.

And there being two C.Jones on the same team will drive you nuts when watching the boxscore. :D

yeah, if I remember that cincy sack right, he was getting double teamed when vellano, who's to his right, beat his guy and was headed for dalton, which caused the inside guy on jones to peel off him and intercept vellano --- this gave jones a straight open line to dalton for the sack.

I think he's more of a de that's been pressed into service on the interior, due to the wilfork and kelly injuries, as mentioned above.

Pats signed Andre Carter this week. Earlier in the year, they were moving Chandler Jones inside and bringing in DE Michael Buchanon on passing downs. Don't think they did that as much the past few weeks, but they may start it up again using Carter instead of Buchanon. What this means is the sack opportunities could dwindle for Chris Jones. Though I'd imagine they'd take Vellano off instead as he's more of a run stuffer than pass rusher. Just something to watch. No idea if Carter will even be relevant. Seemed a shell of himself as a Raider last year, but that's been known to be a mirage before (see: Randy Moss).

as a chandler owner in 2 leagues I was actually wondering this, myself.

He's a must-add in DT required leagues. He fell in the draft because he's undersized, but he was an absolute beast at Bowling Green with a lot of production. I don't think Vellano has the same upside, but he's a solid add in DT leagues as well. While neither of these guys will blow anyone away with their athleticsm, they were both tremendously productinve in college. Vellano had 3 double digit tackle games his final year at Maryland.

well, pats just traded for a dt from philly, so I'd monitor snaps going fwd.

not saying there'll be any change, but it's something to watch.

They've been getting gashed with the run since the Wilfork (wk 4) and Kelly (wk 5) injuries.

RBs vs NE:

Week 5: CIN - 32-129-1

Week 6: NO - 24-120-1

Week 7: NYJ - 43-131-0

Week 8: Miami - 28-135-0

And that's with Miami pretty much abandoning the run in the second half.

One of these rookie DLs is going to be replaced or rotated out much more often. Could be Vellano or Jones, hard to say. But Kelly would replace / rotate with the other, if he ever returns. FYI, Sopoago is a 330lb run stuffer.

Saw a tweet that said they started the game in a 3-4 with Sopoaga, Jones, and Vellano at DL. Ninkovich, Chandler at OLB.

Another said he played 71 of 75 snaps. Vellano 61, Sopoaga 26.

yeah, and bear in mind pitt threw the ball 48x, while only running 20 --- that's not going to help a guy in his position, and you just can't expect sacks every week from a guy like this.
