Christina Grimmie murdered...Voice singer and YouTube star. (1 Viewer)

I don't really watch the Voice so I was not familiar with her but heard about it on the radio on the way into work today. Some freak walks up while she is signing autographs and shoots her. Brother tackles him and he commits suicide.

Such a young lady to be killed for no reason at all like that. Heart breaking for her family- even more so for the brother there.

Sadly there are a lot of very sick people out there.

Her Twitter account posted "the end" afterwards.  Assuming a family member took control of it after her death, but... weird.

She was really talented.  Came in third on the Voice, I think.

So sad.

Terrible for that family and the brother witnessed all that...sheesh man.

Talk about life heading in one direction and suddenly forever changed

My daughter is distraught. Huge fan.

Shes never asked a single question in her life about gun control. Now she wants to know why anybody should be allowed to carry around a loaded gun.

Can we please not have a repeat of the introduction of politics into a non- political thread? Let's learn something from the Ali RIP thread.

"police chief said the theater's security guards search bags of concertgoers when they arrive, but do not use a metal detector".

WTF? How does any venue not at least have security guards wanding people as they come in? SMH.
I have been to over 1000 concerts and can't remember ever having been subject to a metal detector or wand.  I've been patted down for a decent amount but pretty sure those were more about drugs.

  • Should we wand people at the mall?
  • At the movie theater?
  • At high school basketball or football games?
  • At bars?
  • At libraries?
  • At conventions?
  • At hotels or casino's?
  • At museums?
  • At art galleries?
  • At Walmart?

No, just concerts, festivals, pro sporting events, etc where they have thousands of people attending.

Ive been to a few that did a quick wand as you go through the gate, it takes like 3 seconds per person.

So whacked. What an #######. And the brother. I cannot imagine.

I've been to hundreds of concerts and don't recall ever being subject to a metal detector. Obviously, some sporting events. And pat-downs going back to the 80s. It sounds like this was more like an outdoor plaza area than a proper venue.

Sometimes things happen that are so random and disconcerting, all you can do is...  I don't even know.  Reminds me of what happened in Virginia with the reporter and her cameraman.

There is some dangerous crazy that cannot be filtered.

Prayers lifted.

Place seats like 1k people. For a show made up of what I imagine to be mostly suburban teens. There are more people at a local church.

Hardly a place where metal detectors would be needed.

We'll see what Tim's daughter thinks though.

My daughter made the comment; I thought it was worth repeating. As a result I get attacked by all the usual sources. Doesn't surprise me.

Tim, I respect you as a person but you are FOS here. You knew exactly what you were doing when you posted the comment....and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that your daughter did in fact even make the initial comment,

Not really no. If I thought I would be attacked this way, I wouldn't have repeated it, honestly. Personally, as I have stated many times, I am generally in favor of gun rights. The only gun control law I support is ending the private sales loophole. I don't support any others, so if you think I'm a gun grabber you're quite wrong. But I was startled by my daughter's reaction so I posted it.

You're too smart for a dumb thought like that Tim.

Huge fan of The Voice.  Was introduced to Christine Grimmie there, and my wife and I just loved her.  Really awful to hear this morning.  She had such a vibrancy about her.  It's a tragedy anytime someone so young dies so senselessly, but it hits home when you've connected with the person in some way.

So incredibly sad.

Speculation is the sick #### that killed her was a deranged fan who traveled specifically to Orlando from elsewhere in the state to kill her.

The world of celebrity fandom can be a disease to some. Some people just get way too into an actor/actress/singer and just let their admiration/lust for them consume their psyche. It's really disturbing.

Appears to be what I'm hearing as well. Someone who had it in for her.

And, likely, someone who would have used a knife if he couldn't get a gun. This country needs better mental health screening before it starts to rewrite gun laws.
I also read that he did have a hunter's knife as well.

Write as many laws as you want, but there's some crazy out there that you just can't fix.

If I can just step back from the timhateTM for a sec - I never will understand why those who think he's a troll feel the need to tell us that over and over again -

This is awful.  The SO and I are devout watchers of The Voice and, because of some personal connections etc., are always huge shills for anyone on Adam Levine's team.  Christina was a wonderful burst of talent in Season 6 of the show (it airs two seasons per calendar year so that was in the spring of 2014) and was completely robbed of a well-deserved victory.  She was a shockingly accomplished performer and a thoroughly likable, charming, sweet person.

As I believe some have mentioned, she had *millions* of YouTube followers.  She was a true talent and had her whole life ahead of her.

This is a sickening, horrible, tragedy.  I'm devastated by this.  :(

My favorite performance of hers from her season (among many): she and Adam doing Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know

:(   RIP.

Tim, I NEVER get on you like other posters but you are dead wrong here. You know exactly what you were doing so stop being obtuse.

I wrote exactly why I posted what I did. I wasn't trying to antagonize anybody or be a jerk. Sorry that some people seem to feel otherwise.

Would you shut up if you're not going to talk about Christina?  Just stop answering them.  You're not going to get their votes and you and they are polluting the thread.  Some of us are trying to mourn this young woman.

Really connect with this sentiment here.  Thanks for posting this.

I've been patted down and wanded at a bar/lounge before. I found out later that it was a place that known gang/mafia members frequent.

Sounds like her brother likely saved a lot of lives. Can't imagine how he feels and how all this will impact his life but tackling an active shooter is pretty damned heroic. Kudos and condolences to the family.

Thinking they should be used and that it would be easy to implement at all sorts of venues is a fine opinion.  Perhaps I misread your initial post but you seemed shocked that they didn't do it in this instance which seemed odd since it is far from the norm to do so.
