Cincinnati trip -- any recommendations? (1 Viewer)

I could only be an alternate...i travel too much to commit to a date more than a few weeks aways. I am a couple hours away from Cincy.

Was in town for a day and stopped by and got a few cheese coneys and a Graeter's milkshake. Love Cincinnati!
Hey thanks for letting us know.
lol. Was at Children's hospital. Came in Thursday night and got caught in a huge traffic jam on 71 caused by a truck full of powered animal fat. Had to drive back yesterday afternoon so it was a short trip. Freaking animal fat?

If only you knew some locals that could have gotten you around the traffic jam...

Pretty sure we need at least one more person named John to make this work
Save the 12-spot for me just in case. You can call me John if it makes you feel better.
I'll be the 11th and fresh blood. Been looking for a good local league for awhile. Rarely wade into the FFA so pm me if I'm MIA.

headed to Cincy on Friday for a guys weekend. Going to Bengals/Browns game. We are staying at the Embassy Suites just across the river from the stadium - I guess there's a bridge we can walk over.

It's a group of late 30's, mostly married guys. We will be drinking way too much; the question is where. There's a good chain of bar suggestions here, but I have no idea of the neighborhoods. The main joint we want to be sure to hit is Hofbrauhaus; I'd also like to find some place to see the fights on Saturday.

Where are the good bar areas to get to?

any suggestions for a good sports bar for Sunday Night Football?

Hofbrauhaus is in Newport, which has plenty of bars...Comedy club real close too if you want to hit that up.

You've got the Main Strasse area in Covington which is just a couple of blocks from your hotel and walkable- there are some really sketchy parts of Covington, but not between that and your hotel. Also, Wertheim's which probably has better German food than Hofbrauhaus is there.Newport on the Levee has a bunch of bars and is right across the street from Hofbrauhaus. Jerzees, just up the street from the Levee is not a bad place to watch a game, but I don't know if they'll have the fights.

I was at the Banks between PBS and Great American Ballpark for the first time this weekend and it has plenty to offer too. You can walk the Suspension Bridge from your hotel to there too.

You've also got the Horseshoe casino right there, and Mt. Adams used to be a second home to me, but I haven't been up there in a long time, so I don't know what the age demographic of the bars is like up there.

Graeters Peanut butter chip milkshake. Hell yes. Girl put like 5 scoops of ice cream in it. :moneybag:
Wait, what... What happened to Aglemesis?!?

Next time (or this time), give a heads up in advance if you want to try to ditch the fam for a bit and grab drinks

Went to Graeters, then mall, then Blue Ash Chili, the Aglemesis. Only up last night and today but coming back up in the summer. I'm definitely down for corn holing a few people.

I'll go by Graeters today for some Elena's Blueberry pie ice cream. It's Awesome...then maybe Mediterranean King. Best falafal I've had in a long long time.

I just moved into my new place in Virginia and I am fortunate to be within walking distance of a Krogers. They have Skyline and Graeters. i just made myself some Skyline. It isn't quite the same, but it gets me through the withdrawal.

My recommendations based off my last trip:

Skip Taste of Cincinnati. Overpriced food. Small portions and huge crowds. Just find a nice restaurant to go to.

Carew Tower observation deck is a bargain for 2 bucks.

Costa Rican butterflies at the Krohn conservatory isn't worth what they charge.

Skyline will never disappoint.

Find out beforehand if any dorky looking college kids have recently gone missing. If so, go at a different time.

ETA: Jungle Jim's = awesome. I never knew about it until someone here linked his traveling blog and had a piece about it. Highly recommended.

The kid ended up being found dead in an abandoned house. Kind of messed up to make light of that.
