Would anyone mind critiquing this base layout for me? It's for TH9, regular non-war base. My main focus is protecting my storages, with DE most important, then gold then elixir. I think if you click the "Modify Layout" button it'll load up a copy for you that's bigger and easier to look at. There's a little swivel arrow button that will change between top down view and the more in-game view.

I think you need to double up your giant bombs to kill hogs instantly, without a chance to heal.

Also, your upper right spring trap could potentially be walked around and missed.

If it came down to dropping that far, I feel I could take #13 a lot easier than I could take #16, my +5. Not sure if we want you dropping that low, but if we're discussing it, I'm wondering if you could steam roller him easier than I. Though I think for you top 5 guys, we might need 2 stars out of you on their top guys if you can, even if it means passing up 3 stars on a lower guy.

Thoughts?

Why don't our top guys just chill for the first few hours to see how it kicks off? The strategy may write itself at that point.

Then I'll most likely just wait

I think you need to double up your giant bombs to kill hogs instantly, without a chance to heal.

Also, your upper right spring trap could potentially be walked around and missed.

Yeah, I've fought with that upper right spring trap. Originally I had the AA down one tile so the spring trap had to be hit. But if hogs come circling up the right side of the base, and end up killing the AA from the south, they could divert down into the middle instead of continuing on up. I wanted to pick up that 1 extra grid of space away from the middle. If I had 2 more wall segments I could extend the whole thing out and make it work. I can grab one from down where the tesla is bottom left, but I need the other or I leave a drop zone in the base.

If you see a better fix there let me know. Going to move the DE so that might change some things too.

On the double bombs... hrm. I've kind of been on the fence there. A single one takes them down low, but of course a heal can fix that. I've tried to make sure I have tesla/xbows/mortars/wiz towers in range to finish them off quickly if they are slow on the heal, but maybe it's worth it to kill a group instantly. I do like being able to have the big bomb set back like it is so a lone hog attacking the front edge of the tower can't be used to detonate one of them.

Actually, combining the advice sort of made it work out.

Replaced the stand alone AA with a tesla and moved the AA to where the tesla had been, which fixed the spring trap. And it puts the tesla on the side that doesn't have an AA in the middle covering it, so that helped on top of it. Also took the tesla that had been outside on its own, and put it where a big bomb had been, freeing one up so I have a double big bomb on one side now.

Recording for our record of "what can lightning kill".

Attacked a base that two level 6 wizard towers (800 health) sandwiching a level 6 air defense (1040 health) right between them, all in a line with no spaces between the buildings.

I hit the AA with 3 level 5 lightning spells (420 damage each). All three buildings were destroyed. So for my spells that did 1260 damage total, at least 800 was done to the adjoining buildings.

Hawkeyes 25 attacks for 38 stars.

We have 27 three-stars and 3 two-stars.

They have 7 three-stars, 4 two-stars and 9 one-stars.

Right now I have 2 heal 1 rage...would it be better to triple lightning and take out one of those air d?

Here's how I'd approach #32

1. 3x lightning the bottom air def near TH

2. deploy dragons along top left side, his CC troops should draw your dragons to the top left AD, dragons kill CC troops then AD

3. target top right air def, ask for hogs in CC (wait for dragons to trigger his CC troops before dropping hogs)

a) drop BK at 2 o'clock to target gold mine. BK will tank canon/arch tower near 2 o'clock (don't forget to use heal ability when BK gets low)

b) deploy hogs at 2 o'clock near canon, hogs should take out canon -> archer tower -> AD

**make sure to have 1 dragon take out the elixir collector at 12 o'clock, otherwise dragons might path to towards it rather than towards the center. You can do drop 1 dragon right before triple lightning the bottom AD, or simple make sure to do this during step 2.

Nice plan. Worked like a charm!

If you click on the trophy in the top left corner, but it's a basically meaningless number as it's strictly based on total number of trophies the clan as a whole has.

Should I upgrade my DE storage before building a dark barracks?

Yes. You won't really have the DE to use DE troops until TH8. Until then whatever you have should go towards leveling your BK. So don't really need a DE barracks for awhile.

Having a higher level DE storage will mean it takes a bit more damage to steal DE from it. So that's worth it, on top of more storage capacity.

I found decent success going 2 rages and one heal. In fact I go 3 lightnings only when I go against 2 AD and I feel too lazy to time the spells with rage and heal. Those bases are no brainer for dragons.

And like Norv said above, I know I'm getting lazy with dragons. Before dragons, using giants and healers, so many things had to go right. Now only when I go against three AD's do I even scout and plan how to drop the dragons and time the spells. I almost never even use the dragon I get in the CC, though that last dragon has saved my butt a few times.

I think this is best. The closer you start the less chance the pathing goes bad. But it's also about the health of the buildings in between. If your dragons have to stop and kill a bunch of max level storages while in range of the AA, that's going to slow them down. Once they start taking AA fire I want them getting to the AA as quick as possible.

I think it depends on the level of the spells. My Rage is only lvl1 but lightning is lvl5. I think lightning is stronger for me at this point.

I think it depends on the level of the spells. My Rage is only lvl1 but lightning is lvl5. I think lightning is stronger for me at this point.

I have level 5 Rage/Lightning and prefer lightning. It takes out 1 AD completely and basically what I look for is a close angle between the two remaining ADs. I think both can work fine if the pathing is correct, but the rage/heal requires them to find 3 targets compared to 2 with lightning.

I do like that the additional hp make it more difficult to steal DE, but I will also add this benefit to upgrading the DE storage. At TH7 you don't want to waste any DE, and throwing it away by being at max capacity makes no sense.

I've been tracking my stars in a race with my kid. I can confirm you only get credit for new stars.

If the opponent has 1 star, and you get 2 stars, you will be credited 1 star towards the achievement. Not sure how it treats 3 stars...

Not only did I do three dragon attacks and only 1 hog this war... but I went dragon on #10 who I was going to be happy just to get 2 stars on him. Got 95%, just didn't have time to finish him fully.

The 4th spell at TH9 is such a difference maker. I definitely endorse upgrading Spell Factory the moment your TH9 upgrade finishes. Can't wait to get the 20 extra troops from camp upgrades now. Started Lab upgrading a DE troop so I could spend all my elixir on camp upgrades.

Also, I really haven't had any trouble earning even as a new TH9. I've bounced between 1400 and 1600 trophies, just barching with the same army I used as TH8. Even with no spells while factory was down, I was earning great. Have to be a bit selective when I'm focusing on elixir though, and keeping the army low cost helps. My normal build is about 80k elixir not counting any spells.

I think dropping 2 dragons each on the NW and NE AD, 3 on the SW AD and then 4 on the SE AD with a rage spell on the SE and SW set of dragons to path them to the TH would get the TH down. Heal the SW group on it's way in and I think it would work. (I actually think this may have worked with my lvl2 dragons but didn't want to risk not getting 1 star).

This war is over.

They would have to 3 star everything 6 and lower and get 2 stars on our 1-5 just to tie.

If there is a good loot target I don't see it, but don't waste any big attacks here imo.

#4 was an easy star for lvl2 dragons... I think if they were lvl3 I'd have 3 starred him.

nope, only 2. High lvl Rage + Heal might have been different but I used 3 zaps and heal.

Are you still suffering PTSD from your 1 star last time? You up on your meds?

Not only did I do three dragon attacks and only 1 hog this war... but I went dragon on #10 who I was going to be happy just to get 2 stars on him. Got 95%, just didn't have time to finish him fully.

The 4th spell at TH9 is such a difference maker. I definitely endorse upgrading Spell Factory the moment your TH9 upgrade finishes. Can't wait to get the 20 extra troops from camp upgrades now. Started Lab upgrading a DE troop so I could spend all my elixir on camp upgrades.

Also, I really haven't had any trouble earning even as a new TH9. I've bounced between 1400 and 1600 trophies, just barching with the same army I used as TH8. Even with no spells while factory was down, I was earning great. Have to be a bit selective when I'm focusing on elixir though, and keeping the army low cost helps. My normal build is about 80k elixir not counting any spells.

I think I need to drop down. I am TH8 at ~1650 and am having to click 'Next' A LOT to find bases with 200k gold.

If the trophies don't mean anything to you, sub 200 is the only way to go. I routinely gather several million gold/elixir and several thousand DE in a couple of hours using only goblins.

Hit a base the other night with 350k/350k/3200 that I cleaned out with 6 goblins. Also, there are a TON of like 50k/50k bases that under 10 goblins can clear out - doesnt sound like much but they add up fast. And since you can brew up 8 gobs per minute, you never run low on troops either.

What is your normal barch build that costs 80k?
