Cleveland Browns (7 Viewers)

i’m pretty sure the Browns are allowed to sign him whenever they want.

and if they did, the Giants would be able to start negotiations with whomever they want.

at least it used to work like that.
I think they changed the second team in order to keep some intrigue - but the Browns still could.

New York Post today has Giants top three on their draft board as 1)Barkley, 2)Nelson, 3)Chubb.
If that is actually the case, then somebody is probably trading up to #2. Actually if that is the case, then its surprising it wasn't the Giants who traded with the Jets for the #6.

Sam Darnold's Pro Day is today.

If he's drafted in the top 5, he'll play in a cold-weather climate for at least part of the season. A problem? Apparently not.

At USC, he went 5-1 with a game-time temperature below 60 degrees, with 13 TD, 5 Int and a Total QBR of 90.
:lmao:

Hmnnn.

Can anyone confirm this one?

Source: Sam Darnold's parents, having met Browns owner Jimmy Haslam at USC's Pro Day are now telling their son to refuse to go to Cleveland.

Alright, just rewatched his pro day w no work interruptions.

Pretty damn impressive. Of course, this is without defenders in his face trying to murder him, but he was throwing like is was 16/17 out there.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, the "overwhelming sense" at USC QB Sam Darnold's Wednesday Pro Day was that Darnold will be the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft.

All reports were positive on Darnold's Wednesday performance in front of execs and scouts, and the general feeling coming out of the Combine was Darnold is the Browns' top target. In addition to coach Hue Jackson and new GM John Dorsey, owner Jimmy Haslam attended Darnold's Pro Day and took notes in the stands. A gunslinger whose technique needs polish, Darnold blends similar skills of Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo. After acquiring Tyrod Taylor, the Browns would have the luxury of sitting Darnold for most if not all of his first year.

.........

No exactly fond of the comparison, but I would 10000% take a combo of Romo and Stafford.

I'm still not exactly sure who he reminds me of, tbh. But I don't think I would've gone with those 2. Maybe Stafford, a bit.

5 Comps

2 Romo, 1 each Goff, Tannehill, and Favre.

The further we get away from the 2017 season the better Darnold will look.  Don't fall into the trap.  There's a strong argument he's the best bet in this class, but he needs development - probably a lot of it.

if Tyrod can keep him on the bench all year, i’m going to feel much better about that 3rd round pick they spent to get him.

who wouldn’t spend a third to not ruin a potential franchise QB?

odds are they’ll throw him in at some point, but still.

More than Kizer? :lmao:

I liked Rosen coming out of the season and think he is going to be the steal of the draft (if you can be a steal going in the top 3) but my 2nd was Darnold and I'm good with him. You can find flaws with all of them but I trust the guys evaluating talent a helluva lot more now than I have in the past so if they settle on Darnold, I'm good with it.

I think I've already written it, but Tyrod is why I'm open minded about him now.  With McCarron?  Hell no.  But Tyrod won games despite decision makers actively trying to replace him, so I'm less worried about Hue cancering him up and forcing an early move.

This is a weird take because the person responsible for the mishandling of Kizer is still in-house.

Yea that's kinda where I was going with it but even with that, THAT person has less a hand in the development of the QB(s) this year than last with the addition of Haley so I'd like to think that whoever they pick, along with Tyrod, actually has a chance to succeed. Kizer was never placed in a position where he was going to be successful unless he turned into Joe Montana last year.

As long as we don't have to see Darnold til at LEAST midseason, I'm cool.

Preferably not at all. But midseason is my minimum.

Either Darnold or Mayfield is fine with me.  Both have looked good - Darnold played well with less pieces around him.  He needs time to develop, but as others have said, that is with Taylor is for this season.  I think Tyrod got the shaft in Buffalo, as he's a good player - just not a "Jim Kelly" type of player.  It's hard to live up to that comparison when that's not the style of game you play.  Tyrod did well enough to be the starter, even though the powers that be didn't want him there.  I'll gladly take him to QB the Browns for the short-term, and best case scenario he flourishes and keeps the rookie on the bench for a few seasons (ala Favre, Rodgers).

I still wouldn't mind another cheap FA QB signing to play middle man between Tyrod and the Rookie. Maybe a Matt Moore or Ryan Mallet type - a career backup who knows their role and can help teach the rookie from the bench during games.

I'm a fan of not at all. If Tyrod is failing or we continue our losing ways (I don't expect this btw) what do you gain by throwing in the rook? If he goes Russell Wilson fine but no point in throwing him out there unless he just heads & tails above what you have on the field.

Jason Pierre-Paul traded to the Bucs and a 2018 fourth-round pick for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round. Interesting...what's that do to the Giants at 2 now? Anything? Chubb?

I've been on record as not being a Tyrod Taylor fan, but he's surely a league average QB at least. I think he should play well enough to keep the Browns in the 8-8 range which is a huge win for them and if they are challenging for second in the division (assuming Pitts doesn't have major injuries, they likely can't take the division) I don't see them pulling him unless Darnold is killing it in practices.

I think with TT 8-8 would be an absolute God send.  Count your blessings and move on to 2019.

However I think you guys are in for something like 4-6 wins.

I'm not  Browns' fan and this is fair considering they are starting from 0 wins last season - but based on their roster additions and incoming picks 7-9/8-8 seems doable to me.
8 wins is certainly feasible with this rooster.

But we have Hue, so I'm expecting 4 and a new coach.

Just hoping he doesn't go scorched earth on his way out.  Which he will.

Just in time for all of the Hue Doubters, like myself....

How to root for the Browns while you don't believe in Hue Jackson

According to the author there are 3 viable options:

1. The Browns have another terrible year and Jackson loses his job.

2. The Browns have a decent year, but Jimmy Haslam decides a change is needed and Jackson loses his job.

3. The Browns are decent or even good, Jackson keeps his job, his detractors like me are proven wrong and football fans in Cleveland have a competitive team to get behind.

Im sorry browns fans.  Sam darnold is a huge bust.  He has a weak arm.  His completion percentage is sky high when he snaps and fires but if he has to hold the ball for any length of time his completion percentage plummets.  He a west coast QB.  I could forgive the weak arm if he had the intellect of peyton mannning but no.

So our discussion has started to dry up, Chris Canty dropped this on Golic & Wingo this morning, don't rule out the Giants trying to move up to 1 to grab Darnold.

That morning show is the absolute worst.  Its just baseless speculation from an "expert" just trying to throw something out there and have airtime.   Mike and Trey should have laughed him off the set
I sort of agree and sort of disagree.  There's going to be all sorts of BS thrown at the wall over the next 5 weeks from all sorts of different "sources."  Listen to and read everything, but believe nothing.

But why even entertain baseless crap at all?  Its cheap and pathetic.   Just the mere notion that somehow Chris effing Canty would have some inside source within the Giants is just laughable at best.  Especially considering who the GM is and his track record of drafting and who is currently on the roster.   Its cheap vanilla radio and I have no clue why anyone would waste time with that dog crap first thing in the morning.

It's BSPN - it's all about ratings, not quality content.
