Cleveland starting RB next season? (1 Viewer)

My gut feeling is that the Browns starting RB in '10 isn't on the roster right now.

They'd like to keep Harrison in a complimentary role. I wouldn't be surprised if they take RB within the first two rounds.

ETA: What msommer said.

Any realistic chance for [dexterslab] DeDe! [/dexterslab] to pull off a miracle and win the job going into 2010?

Realistically? No. He's a fringe NFL'er and not someone a team will build around. I think even a guy like Lendale would be much more likely than someone like Dorsey.

Makes sense. Plus, the way things are projected right now, there will be legit stud RBs available at the top of the 2nd round ... and probably the top of the 3rd, too. Gotta think the Browns pull that trigger.

I don't think Dorsey is much different from Harrison. If he stays out of the doghouse he could have a 1B role on the team in place of Harrison. If the best they get in FA is LenDale, there will be a 1B role for Dorsey, Harrison, Davis, or a late round rookie.

Maybe they will take Baltimore's scraps again (McGahee).

Wasn't his knee was it? I thought it was the bogus IR move they pulled on his shoulder or something. He got hit by a padded up player when he wasn't wearing any. Really a strange one, but seems like JD got a raw deal. He should be back 100% by next year. He's probably 100% right now, just shelved.

in no way am I high on Lendale I was just throwing him as a name that would be more desirable than Dorsey. McGahee or a dozen other FA's would also be better not to mention rookies they may draft.

If Chris Jennings gets any halfway decent production the rest of the season he'll get a shot to start and if James Davis is recovered he may get a shot even being a 6th round pick this year and then ending up on IR. They WON'T take a rb with their high first round draft pick in 2010. They should most definitely explore the free agent market hard.

We had 80 posts here about James Davis, as well as about 5 other duplicate threads and only 1 person mentions him while some have thrown out some real haymakers.

Those bandwagon wheels sure fell off quickly. What's changed since now and September, other than him hurting his shoulder in a "learning opportunity drill", given by a coach who may not be there next season?

Harrison might only be kept around if Mangini leaves. For some reason Mangini does not like him (and why would you, he's only by far the most productive back on the team?).

Who cares as they will hold no fantasy value....
:excited: A lot can change by next season.
The front office, coaching and team needs to be fix. I don't see this situation turning around in one year. You can go ahead and draft Cleveland players next year and see what you get.....
Saints 2005 --> Saints 2006. Front office stayed the same, but the HC, QB, and WR1 changed. A bunch of defensive FAs, too.

I know speculation is the name of the game on these boards, but this is impossible to predict at this point. There will likely be a completely new regime making these decisions. Just because the current coaching staff was high on Davis doesn't mean the next one will be.

I'll be shocked if Bush or Lendale get a chance to be starters, even on the Browns, but if they come at the right price who knows on a team as bad as the Browns have been? I certainly think Chester Taylor and to a lesser extent McGahee have something left in the tank. We don't even know for sure what the free agency period will be like because of the pending labor negotiations.

I wouldn't expect the Browns to use a high draft pick on a RB, but literally any drafted RB would be in the mix to compete for the job given the RBs they currently have on the roster.

I'm assuming the point of this thread is with dynasty in mind, so I would say Davis is the guy to own. If you have a really deep league, Jennings and maybe even Dorsey could be worth a flier, but there must be better options in most leagues.

If they can find a right tackle and a blocking TE, whoever the Browns have running the ball would be doing so behind a pretty good line. I wouldn't bank on them being earth shattering but claiming any NFL team has no fantasy value at all a year ahead of time is a quick way of getting all of your opinions dismissed.

Not enough data. Can't answer this question until the end of the season. If Jennings turns out to be a worldbeater over the next few weeks, things change significantly. If he's terrible, that's a helpful data point too.
