Clinton Portis.......how the mighty have fallen. (1 Viewer)

Due to total frustration at RB (I drafted LT out of the 9 slot....and picked up Portis in the 3rd...thought it was a steal) I decided to try and move Portis. I figured I wouldn't be able to get current quality so I'd chase potential. I, reluctantly, offered Portis to the Beanie Wells owner and just got shut down.

2009.....what a strange year at RB it's been.

Hahaha, no way I do that deal if I'm the Wells owner, but that is more of a reflection of Well's potential than Portis' skills.

the shark move was last week not this week.
??? Portis has just come off a two week run of 198 yards and 2 TD's (week 5/6). Wells wasn't doing anything to speak of. I'm guessing other owners would have had some issues with that trade last week.

Right. I wouldn't even make that deal in a redraft at this stage of the game. Much rather take my chances Beanie never pans out which is probably not likely. Superstar I highly doubt, but reliable contributor I can see.Portis looks shot and Washington looks apathetic.

Just traded the bum and my back up QB (favre) for Lynch and Sanchez. I'm not crazy about Lynch but I'm stoked to be rid of that limping, predictable, come-out-at-the-goaline-because-you-suck Portis.

Plus I hate Snyder and his Skins... :lmao: :football: :football:

Fred Jackson had 2 yards rushing last week and now Lynch has Houston at home this week.I would be happy to have Lynch right now.

Portis hasn't fallen, his oline and QB have.
Ditto. The hopeful thought is that the change of play-calling and extreme national attention on the Redskins will hopefully change them for the better - I can't imagine them getting worse. They have a very good defense and should be trying to control the game on the ground - JCampbell has repeatedly shown that he can't win a game with his throwing ability.I'm pretty sure no one in my dynasty league would've traded much for Portis - everybody knows the rest of his schedule isn't that easy. I may be able to get a lesser WR2 but to me, he's still the clear starting RB for his team with very little mooching (like 80% of the other teams)

I can't imagine them getting worse.
They have a tough schedule the rest of the season. Not necessarily tough in terms of the run defenses they play, but tough in term of the overall quality of their opponents. So far, they've avoided blowouts. And, even while avoiding blowouts, Portis is only getting 17 carries a game. If they start getting blown out, his opportunities could get even lower. The ONLY thing Portis has going for him now is that he'll get pretty much every RB carry. The problems are that there are no holes to run through and there just may not be a ton of RB carries to be had.The main thing that can save Portis' season is if the team, as a whole, commits themselves to developing an identity by running the ball. They did that in 2006 and Betts posted some big numbers. But, that was Gibbs. This is...Zorn? Sherm Lewis? Cerrato? Snyder? I have no idea who it is and I seriously doubt any of those guys would steer the team in that direction.

Bailed- traded Portis and some draft picks for Mendenhall - I want nothing to do with Washington the rest of the year

Turned down Portis and I believe it was Walter for S Rice in a PPR. Not even close imo.
Wow.I like Rice and think he has really done well now that he is healthy and the Vikings have Favre. But for you to say this is not even close?Time to buy low on Portis.
I usually love to sell high and buy low - but that Wash team looks awful - with the "easy" part of the schedule done there is no upside with Portis - I think it actually gets worse for him......

The Washington schedule couldn't get any easier....Look at that cupcake schedule they had the first 6 weeks!!!

No shot you're getting Beanie for Portis. You should of tried this the moment Samuels got hurt. Behind the curve trying it now (especially w/ Beanie coming on).

I tried to trade him last week in 2 different deals and had no luck.

I also tried a few weeks ago and had no luck.

His value is so low, he's actually better than his perceived trade value.

Might as well keep him for a while.

I finally got a bite, got counter offered Portis and Donald Brown for Lynch. I'm not sure if Portis has dropped this low but would sure feel good to get him off my team at this point.

Portis is playing hurt right now also. He has an ankle injury. He is playing through it.

Portis may not be a good option for this year but that does not mean he won't come back and be his usual self again with the Redskins or if things really go badly with another team?

For some of the deals talked about here seems like a good time to trade off depth if you have it to stash Portis for when things either turn around or for next year.

Unless you believe Portis is now washed up and will never be what he has been so far in his career.

Blocking is a lot bigger deal than I think FF focus on skill players "talent" might suggest.

Actually, I believe it does. He'll never be close to his usual self again. By and large, he's toast.

Not much to lose, but on the flip-side, where's the ceiling? Not much to gain either. But hey, I am not a Dynasty guy... Actually, this is what muddles a lot of threads here -- people talking dynasty, and people talking redraft. :goodposting: Two different topics. Either way, he's Edgerrin James all over again...false hope.

Yes X2.
