Any concerns here from Portis owners?

Redskins coach Jim Zorn revealed that Clinton Portis missed Wednesday's practice due to a hip flexor, but expects him to start against the Browns.Zorn left "no doubt" that he feels Portis will be ready. Cleveland surrendered 181 rushing yards to the Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 6. Source: Washington Post

Go ahead and let the #1 RB in the league right now miss practice and rest for what ever reason you come up with Zorn, please.

 With Betts out and uncertainty about what Rock or Alexander can add, Portis could see quite the workload the next few weeks. He's already leading the league in rushing attempts and that could increase a little more if they can't put teams away and give him a break.

"The hip flexors are considered to be the most important muscle in the running process." -Wiki

Injury Progression ...

Generally, a 1st degree strain involves stretching (or very minor tearing) damage to the muscle or tendon.

A 2nd degree strain is associated with partial tearing of the muscle or tendon.

And, worst case scenario, a 3rd degree strain is a complete tear. Regarding injury progression, playing with any strain can easily lead to further damage and function loss. This is particularly true when the injury is related to overuse and has a gradual onset. Athletes often try to play through this, with no rehabilitation, and it results in a grade 1 strain becoming a grade 2.

Bump.

He missed Thurs. and is expected to miss today but they are still saying he will play. Anyone have any more info on this?

Had a 2nd degree hip flexor strain. Very painful and hard to run. I'm sure he'll get a shot and play.
This qualifies as "normal wear and tear" on the RB rental policy. It goes with the territory, and the rest goes with it too. The nice part about Portis is that nobody questions his heart, and he's a veteran so the loss of practice time isn't nearly as important. Zorn has been pretty open and honest about his injured players' status, divulging good news and bad, and he's saying flatly that Portis "will play". That's good enough for me.

where'd you see that he was expected to miss today?
It doesn't matter. Zorn said flatly that even if he missed all of the practices this week, he was still going to play on Sunday. They've obviously concluded that this injury can be managed sufficiently for Portis to play effectively on Sunday, and that the desire to rest him to help him heal from the injury is greater than worrying about his practice time. Forget whether he practices or not - it's a non-issue in this particular case.

I'm trying to find the article again, but I recall reading something from Wed. that had quoted Zorn as saying that he doubted Portis was going to practice at all before the run through on Saturday. I haven't been expecting him to practice the rest of this week at all after I read that.

Can't find the article, but Rotoworld also has the Zorn quote that said he wasn't likely to be doing @%@#$ until Saturday:

I read the same. Unfortunately owning Betts as a handcuff isn't making me feel all warm and fuzzy with the SA owners trying to get max price right now. At least I have the Rock as well.

From CBS:News: Redskins RB Clinton Portis, the league's leading rusher, missed a second straight day with a hip flexor Thursday and will probably sit out Friday's session as well. He is questionable against the Browns. "It was pretty bad with his hip flexor," coach Jim Zorn said. "That's all that is the problem. I expect him to practice on Saturday and I expect him to go on Sunday."

This was in the Stephania Bell injury chat on ESPN. I agree that ESPN stinks for fantasy, but she's been pretty good about injury information throughout the year. Really nothing new to report though......

"Randy (Fort Wayne, IN): Hi Stephania! I saw a report that Clinton Portis was held out of practice the other day due to a hip flexor. Is that something we Portis owners should be concerned about going forward?

Stephania Bell : Hi Randy - and all those asking about Portis - there's about 5 of you in a row: Portis reportedly has a hip flexor strain - a key muscle for a running back where you get a lot of your power and drive - he has not practiced and is not expected to practice today. He is questionable for Sunday - and may also come down to a gtd. With Betts out, we could see some Shaun Alexander. "

So, is there any word out of D.C. as to who will get the carries if Portis can't go? Would they go with Shawn Alexander or with Rock Cartwright who knows the offense? Inquiring minds want to know.....

Everyone I've heard in the DC area believes Portis will play, and probably play well.

Friday LB Khary Campbell (calf), S Chris Horton (ankle), G Pete Kendall (knee), RB Clinton Portis

lPORTIS OFFICIALLY QUESTIONABLE; STILL EXPECTED TO PLAY

. Compiled by FootballDiehards Editor Bob Harris Bob Harris | Posted Friday October 17, 2008 @ 15:00 PT

Portis Officially Questionable; Still Expected To Play The NFL’s leading rusher, Clinton Portis, sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a hip injury but fully participated on Friday and will likely make the start against the Browns.

He is officially listed as questionable.

But in discussing Portis and a handful of other players, head coach Jim Zorn remains satisfied the star tailback will be ready.

"I watched those guys move around, and I felt like they moved around pretty good," Zorn said. "Now, there's some tenderness there that we've got to watch. But we've still got two more days to rest and get treatment."

As previously noted, Zorn believed on Thursday that Portis might not work at all on Friday. The fact he worked fully is certainly a good sign.

The SA signing seems less fishy by the moment. I smell troubling times ahead for Portis owners.
Trying hard to trade for Portis I see.
No sirree, Senor Bell. There's no lower act in the Shark Pool than posting with ulterior motive.
Every year Portis gets dinged up as RB's are wont to do, and every year people predict his downfall as a runner, and every year Portis continues to play and put up numbers. Listen to people who watch this team - Zorn is saying flatly that he expects him to play, so he'll play. And SA isn't going to replace Betts in that lineup if Betts is healthy.

Portis always plays when hurt and Alexander isnt ready yet. So it will be Portis and Rock Cartwright splitting but I expect Portis to play a lot.
