I hope he doesn't and heals. ESPN's John Clayton confirms that Clinton Portis (questionable, knee) is unlikely to play on Sunday Night Football.John Clayton just said on ESPN that he "tend(s) to doubt" that Portis will play.
Edit. Betts didnt practice fully Friday (my mistake). But is only listed as probable by the team - not questionable.derek245583 said:So betts is definetly playing?
Clinton Portis worked out for 15 minutes Sunday afternoon and reportedly looked good.Portis worked on short bursts and reportedly was smiling while walking off the field. The "collective feeling" of the media watching was that Portis would suit up tonight. We'll find out for sure around 7PM.
I heard this as well....Redskins RadioWashington Post, via Rotoworld:

Posted at 5:22 PM ET, 11/16/2008Portis Working OutPortis is doing agility drills on the field right now, working out for trainers.Portis, who has a tear in his left MCL, is n shorts, cleats and a long sleeved shirt - it's legitimately cold out here tonight - sliding from side to side, doing quick bursts, getting his knees.Director of rehab Larry Hess and running backs coach Stump Mitchell are the field with Portis, with Coach Jim Zorn and head athletic trainer John Burrell watching about 20 yards away on the sidelines.Portis has finished the roughly 15-minute workout and is meeting with seven other people on the sidelines, including Zorn, Burrell, director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer. Portis seems to be in good spirits, smiling, walking off the field talking to Zorn.Collective gut feeling of the schlubs watching this is that No. 26 is playing.Posted by Jason La Canfora |
Exactly...because NFL head coaches always let everyone know ahead of time exactly what they plan on doing.Seriously, though, I have both Betts and Portis and right now this is still pretty much a crap shoot for me. However, it may be starting to look a little more like Portis may be more of a player in this game than we previously believed.Just thinking how this sounds very similar to McGahee situation. Zorn already has said if Portis plays it would be in a limited fashion. So why would you play Portis at all if he can't provide at least 50% of the load.I think even if Portis dresses we could get burned by starting him. I would think Betts is the better shot to get the load.Thoughts?
crap. I now have to choose between Portis, Betts or Braylon Edwards instead...head hurtsRedskins Radio Vinny Serano (sp?) just said Portis looked good so he WILL play.Good lord. I have Betts and Portis. What to do?So hard to bench Portis.....
Indeed. OK, head tells me Betts, gut tells me Portis. I'll drink a beer before deciding. BTW I know nobody cares about my team and who I play. I'm just thinking out loud for those who also are in the same boat. It's good to know others opinion sometimes.crap. Yeah I was wanting to start Betts so I could possibly get a win for this week by the end of Sunday. But I will roll with J.Lew/Lynch as much as I HATE starting opposing RBs.Indeed. Posted at 6:36 PM ET, 11/16/2008Portis To Play; Springs OutShawn Springs will not be active tonight, according to a team source, with the Redskins dressing four running backs - Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Shaun Alexander and Rock Cartwright. Springs is recovering from a calf tear. Will have the rest of the inactives to follow.Posted by Jason La Canfora
I have Portis and Betts and no idea who to start...leaning towards Portis.NBC's Andrea Kremer reports that Clinton Portis is starting for the Redskins Sunday night.Quite a surprise after most media reports thought Portis was out. Portis remains a risky fantasy play, but we'd use him as a RB2 over Ladell Betts if you waited this long. Portis reportedly looked good in warmups, but it's anyone's guess how long his knee will hold up. Look for Betts to be involved more than usual.
Dittojust pulled betts and inserted portis, reversing the swap from this morning.
Agreed. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm leaning towards starting Portis. You??As a Portis/Betts owner, this was definitely the worst case scenario.
I hope this isn't like Sammy Morris starting on Thurs. I have both Betts and Portis, and I wish Portis was just inactive.I have to say if Portis is starting then I have to start him.As a Portis/Betts owner, this was definitely the worst case scenario.
Definitely leaning toward Portis, but this is a really bad situation. I really hope/pray Zorn isn't making a mistake here, and that he isn't just keeping Portis active as a smokescreen... Even if Wash. loses this game, they are still very much alive in the playoff hunt...Agreed. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm leaning towards starting Portis. You??As a Portis/Betts owner, this was definitely the worst case scenario.
I wish Portis wasn't playing at all honestly. I'd rather him sit and be 100% NEXT week. From a fantasy perspective, him being active is definitely the worst thing that could have happened. Either he carries the load, they go RBBC (which, wouldn't make sense - why have 4 RBs active?), or he aggravates the injury.I wish Betts wasn't playing at all.
I'm up by 0.6 and facing Betts. I'm screwed.I wish Portis wasn't playing at all honestly. I'd rather him sit and be 100% NEXT week. I just hate this whole situation.I'm sticking with Betts over Portis or Braylon Edwards. Sometimes you just have to roll.Betts/Portis owner here ... leaning towards BettsDefinitely leaning toward Portis, but this is a really bad situation. I was thinking that. From what I've seen, it seems as though Portis has Zorn's ear. If he wants to play, and he's feeling good, he's not going to want to come out. The big thing being how good he's feeling. He's a gamer and tough, so I think he's going to get the majority of the carries. I'm rolling with Portis so I hope I'm not wrong.Any chance Betts plays very, very little?
Washington TimesPortis worked out for 15 minutes on the field at FedEx Field around 5:30 p.m. and passed the evaluation of the coaching and training staffs.
Cornerback Shawn Springs, meanwhile, will not play, missing a fourth consecutive game with a calf injury. Springs was on the field briefly but did not undergo the same sort of workout Portis performed.
Portis took to the field at 5:15 p.m. and did agility drills with running backs coach Stump Mitchell and director of rehabilitation Larry Hess. He ran pass routes, did sudden stops and starts and took handoffs. Coach Jim Zorn, offensive coordinator Sherman Smith and, from the training staff, Bubba Tyer and John Burrell, watched from the side. Following the workout, Portis talked with the entire group before leaving the field.
may go with Betts after this from Cbs Sportsline:News: Redskins RB Clinton Portis is active and starting according to the team for Sunday's game against Dallas. He will play despite the knee injury, but coach Jim Zorn said he will be limited. Ladell Betts is also active for the Redskins.Analysis: Portis will get his share of touches, but plan on Betts to get the majority of carries since he's healthier than Portis at this time. Shaun Alexander will also get reps, which means the Redskins RB situation is a mess against Dallas.Zorn himself said earlier in the week if Portis played, he'd be limited - but WHAT is the point of that? He's either good to go or not. I'm now thinking a bit more and may go with Betts. I'm sure at 8:10 I'll flip back to Portis.
If Portis is starting, I'm guessing he's playing the whole game unless somehow they get up by quite a bit. In addition, they have a healthy Shaun Alexander. Betts might be bumped to 3rd string for this game.I was thinking that. From what I've seen, it seems as though Portis has Zorn's ear.
