Clinton Portis - Questionable - SNF (1 Viewer)

Zorn himself said earlier in the week if Portis played, he'd be limited - but WHAT is the point of that? He's either good to go or not. I'm now thinking a bit more and may go with Betts. I'm sure at 8:10 I'll flip back to Portis.
may go with Betts after this from Cbs Sportsline:News: Redskins RB Clinton Portis is active and starting according to the team for Sunday's game against Dallas. He will play despite the knee injury, but coach Jim Zorn said he will be limited. Ladell Betts is also active for the Redskins.Analysis: Portis will get his share of touches, but plan on Betts to get the majority of carries since he's healthier than Portis at this time. Shaun Alexander will also get reps, which means the Redskins RB situation is a mess against Dallas.
With Romo playing, I think we could see a much reduced running game on the part of the Redskins.

What does Romo have to do with the Redskins plans in the running game?

I doubt that. a) Romo still slightly banged upb) The Skins' won the last game BECAUSE of the ground gamec) Campbell has been good, but semi-abandoning the run and putting the game 100% into his hands is a band idea. Dallas D has not been great by any means lately, but they can rush the passer.

Another thing I think about is the fact that we heard nothing of this during the skins bye week. Do the teams not have to disclose injuries during that timeframe? Portis is a gamer and I can see him either getting 20 carries or just 2.

Will we get anymore updates prior to kickoff?

OK, now Redskins Radio is saying yes he is starting, but he has an obvious limp and one guy thinks he'll be used more as a decoy.

How can a RB be a decoy? I guess it's possible.

I need to stop listening.

This may change my mind to go back to Betts....

Better chance of Dallas getting up on Washington requiring Washington to pass more. When they do run, they would rely mainly on Portis since he is their best option to win. Just a scenario.

Teams are not required to fill an injury report on their bye week.

Not to brag, but like I had stated a couple days ago, this had coach-speak written all over it. There is next to nothing extra wrong with Portis IMO. When news first broke, no one believe he wouldn't play in this much anticipated division showdown. Zorn and Portis did everything they could to make as many believe he wouldn't play or would be limited as possible, and it seems they were successful. I still believe he will be given a full workload against Dallas where Washington hopes Dallas isn't ready for him.

From the Redskins official website:

Clinton Portis is active and expected to play in Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.Portis has a sprained knee that sidelined him for practice last week.Head coach Jim Zorn said that Portis might play a limited role due to the fact that he missed practice time.Three hours before kickoff on Sunday, Portis was on the field testing his injured knee. He appeared to be able to cut on the knee without any noticeable pain.Among those watching the warm-ups were head coach Jim Zorn, assistant head coach-running backs Stump Mitchell, director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer, head athletic trainer John Burrell and physical therapist Larry Hess. They appeared to be taking particular note of Portis’s ability to block pass-rushers on the injured knee. After the workout, Portis huddled with team officials on the sidelines to discuss his availability.Television cameras filmed the meeting, but they were quickly ushered away to keep the secrecy of Portis's status intact.Portis suffered the knee injury in the days following the Redskins’ 23-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 3. The injury worsened during the bye week.He entered Sunday’s game listed as questionable

I know a another thread is already asking this, but just about 100 people are currently viewing this one.

Owners, who are you rolling with: Portis or Betts

I have a 20 point lead and Betts/Portis, Cooley, and Lee Evans still to go. He only has Terrell Owens. Obviously I want to go with the safe choice here due to my huge lead. In other words, I"d much rather have a 100% chance at 5-10 points than 10% 0 points, 50% 5-10 points, and 40% at higher than 10 points. So does that mean go with Betts?

Please keep this out of this thread. Thanks.

FWIW, I have Portis, Betts, & Alexander... as well as Jason Witten to decide between in the Flex for tonight's game. I believe that if Portis wasn't going to be able to shoulder the load, he wouldn't be playing.

I'm rolling with Portis. I like what "Browns Rule!" said and it seems to make a lot of sense. For once, I hope a Brown's fan is correct.

At this point, I figure anyone may as well roll with Portis. Guy was probably a 1st round pick so hey "play your studs" (crossing fingers down 20).

Madden & Michaels reported to the NBC studio crew that "Portis didnt look good".

fwiw

apparently some have said it was reported that he "did" look good. :goodposting:

Too late now: Rosters locked - let's all hope Portis plays well and doesn't aggravate that injury!

I hope he doesn't aggravate the injury more playing at less than 100% for one game. I would rather he be healthy in the coming weeks for me than this one week...

portis does not look like he has a 2nd degree mcl sprain i think this all bs to have dallas not prepare... guy is running better than ever bs knee sprain
