still looking for something more recent.

"Clinton Portis did not practice Friday, and the Washington Redskins listed the running back as questionable for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. Coach Jim Zorn, however, said Portis will play.

"His ankles have been sore," Zorn said. "We've got many [other backs] to choose from, but I expect Clinton to be out there ripping around."

Portis, who has started every game since he finished the 2006 season on injured reserve with a broken hand, declined to comment. Zorn said Portis has been suffering from bone spurs in both ankles - a difficulty the coach had not revealed this season.

"It's been happening, not all preseason, but he's got a couple little spurs that are irritating," Zorn said. "No swelling. It's just hard for him. He needs to rest them."

He'll rest only in practice unless the ankles get much worse. "

i hate the non-prac fri. Either way he should see reduced touches.
Shefter says he expects Portis to be active per his Tweet!
This. I think the carries get spread around. The Redskins should handle the Lions and not need Portis, especially given the Redskins D versus the Lions O. They also need to kick start that passing offense, especially in the red zone. I think this is a pure RBBC today and Campbell and the receivers are the guys who put up the interesting fantasy numbers today. Not a good day to start Portis IMHO given that lack of Friday practice.

Let me just add: this week the Redskins resigned Anthony Aldridge, a small, fast change of pace type RB who they had in training camp from another practice squad. They now have five - count 'em, five - RB's on their active roster with Aldridge. The speculation was that this meant bad news for Mason or even Cartwright (a special teams maven and captain) or Betts, but we may be seeing with Portis why they did this.

Either way, you don't carry 5 RB's without there being a good reason for it, and the only injury to the RB's that I'm aware of right now is Portis'.

I'm well aware of Portis' history of not practicing and then playing, and I'm not suggesting Portis has a serious injury that will affect him beyond this week. In fact, I usually downplay the predictions that he won't play. For today's purposes, however, I think you look elsewhere as there are signs here that don't usually exist that the team will be shifting the touches elsewhere at least for this game.

Pure speculation. Other than sore ankles, you really have no basis in fact to support this.

The first two paragraphs were nothing but fact.

So, what's it looking like? The game is starting in about 20 minutes and no word on how he looked in warmups or anything like that?

so frustrating.... I took him out, I just don't see him getting a big load today. On the other hand, I'm surprised he was active at all.

FWIW.. all i could find

Clinton Portis is too be used "sparingly" against the Lions today. Expect to see Betts in the backfield, and some Alridge. Also expect Zorn to use the same kind of gameplan against the Lions as he did the Rams. Which is to throw more then run, and I have been told the red zone offense will look very different.

Just tried to replace him with Burleson as my flex... too late! Oh well, we'll see if the FF gods are looking after me.
