Were did you hear this? James Andrews is based out of Birmingham not Nashville - so unless he is traveling..???How serious could his injury be? (if he has to visit James Andrews)I know in baseball, pitchers visit him to determine if they need tommy john surery, which usually ends their season.

ASHBURN | Running back Clinton Portis will accompany the Redskins to Nashville, Tenn., for Saturday night's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, but it won't be to play football.
Portis, who has missed almost two weeks of practice with tendinitis in the knee, will be examined by orthopedic surgeon and team consultant James Andrews to make sure things are progressing and to try to form a game plan for his return.
"Rehab's going well, and I'm feeling good," Portis said. "I'll be back, hopefully soon, but I don't know when.... Next week, I have a couple of days to relax and get treatment, and hopefully next week I'll feel much better."
Not if you're a Betts owner.this could suck big time

There's no need to visit Andrews if this was all a load of crap.Didn't Portis get hurt in a pre-season game last season? IIRC, immediately after he was complaining about having to play so many pre-season games. I wonder if this is all a load of crap, and he will be 100% by week 1.
Agreed. Sounds more like they are clearing him to resume practice than anything else. This is overblown. Portis will start week 1. The article sounds quite positive - not sure why people are panicking.
Portis said something like everytime he cuts or jukes, his knee flares up. That's scary. That's not positive.Agreed. - How exactly does this sound like cause for panic?Portis, who has missed almost two weeks of practice with tendinitis in the knee, will be examined by orthopedic surgeon and team consultant James Andrews to make sure things are progressing and to try to form a game plan for his return.
It's not necessarily cause for panic but it is something to pay attention to. To scream that the sky is falling is silly. It's equally foolish to automatically dismiss this as non-news.Portis said something like everytime he cuts or jukes, his knee flares up. That's scary. That's not positive.Agreed. Portis hates training camp. It's not surprising that he's missing part of it.There wasn't anything new in this article - other than a visit to Andrews. The knee flaring up is not news. We already knew this. So people are simply panicking about a checkup from Doc Andrews.

Yeah, it's an incremental data point. Any Portis owner should have known that there would be uncertainty. I LIKE that Portis is visiting Doc Andrews - because it will likely result in a more transparent timeframe for his return. Ultimately, it will REDUCE uncertainty. Of course, that could mean Portis sits out 6-8 weeks.....or that he's back in 1 week. But we should know more once he sees the doc. It's not necessarily cause for panic but it is something to pay attention to. To scream that the sky is falling is silly. Was Timmons complaining to the media that his groin still "flares up" when he cuts and turns just prior to going to the specialist?Sometimes teams send players to specialists to confirm that what they are doing is working. Steelers just sent Timmons to a specialist who confirmed that the groin was healing, gave him an injection, and sent him back cleared to begin practice next week.
Andrews is the team surgeon for the skins? didn't know thatFWIW Andrews is the team surgeon of the Skins..... Even though he is close to retiring, he is still an amazing doctor.
That is right about where i would draft him. You would be nuts to waste a low 1rst or high 2nd on him now. Even if you do draft him then you have to spend a 8th or 9th to get Betts. So really your draft would kindof revolve around him. Not good.Does this news drop Portis to 3rd round?
why does he have a man crush on Betts? because he HAD to use him last yearAnd let's not forget that Saunders has a man crush on Betts.I'm definitely taking that guy this year. Probably earlier than I had planned previously. Rd 7?
True and I think Betts will be moving up in ADP so you will have to be ready to probably reach for Betts in order for Portis to be a safe pick, maybe even 7th rd. No thanks. That is right about where i would draft him. You would be nuts to waste a low 1rst or high 2nd on him now. Even if you do draft him then you have to spend a 8th or 9th to get Betts. DD had surgery on the knee last off-season then experienced brusing and swelling in the knee.... that pretty much wraps up your career. Portis is experiencing flare up from tendinitis in the knee... after doing a search; it seems the cure is for this is rest / anti-flare drugs / and a shoot every couple of weeks during the season. It seems that this is very common with athletes. The trip to Andrews will give us a better idea of this situation... to me it actually good new. This should end these guessing games.Hate to say it, but this reminds of the Dom Davis situation last year.
many years ago i had tendinitis in my knees from playing alot softball and basketball for many years. My doctor had me take 12 ibuprofen for 7 days and told me to get rest. While this might be true, the problem I have with this analysis is that Portis has been already resting this knee for a long time now. How much work has he actually done to make this thing flare up? - it does not seem like much at all. Outside of knowing the real deal, anyone who sees this as "good news" is an obvious Portis owner who just threw a penny into the wishing well.DD had surgery on the knee last off-season then experienced brusing and swelling in the knee.... that pretty much wraps up your career. Nobody is saying that a flared up knee is good news. Rather, that a visit to a specialist will reduce some of the uncertainty - either Portis will be on track to heal, or he won't. I see THAT - reduced uncertainty - as good news. While this might be true, the problem I have with this analysis is that Portis has been already resting this knee for a long time now. Do you know what he did this off-season... I don't... he could of been working like a mad man during this off-season and over trained... it was only a couple of weeks ago that he put up some great 40s.While this might be true, the problem I have with this analysis is that Portis has been already resting this knee for a long time now. i thought the same thing. he told me only to take 12 for 7 day, if I took any longer it could thin out my bloodMy God... thats alot.many years ago i had tendinitis in my knees from playing alot softball and basketball for many years. FWIW > Ray Thal is the team doctor for the Redskins. Andrews is a consultant who works for the Redskins and many other teams.Andrews is the team surgeon for the skins? didn't know thatFWIW Andrews is the team surgeon of the Skins..... GDogg said:It's cause for concern because he missed the last half of last season and his replacement (who just so happens to still be #2 and on the team) tore it up in his absence. If I'm Portis (and I'm obviously not) and I want to be the full fledged starter, I'm not going to blow injuries out of proportion (or fabricate them) just to get out of training camp. Remember, this isn't previous years. He needs this camp.If this were a broken pinky or jammed thumb and he wasn't playing, then I'd say there's no cause for concern, but this is clearly something at least somewhat serious. You don't miss 2 weeks when you are essentially playing for a job just for the hell of it.
