Clinton Portis? (2 Viewers)

So why was FBGs so high on Portis this past week? To the untrained eye (like mine) there was really nothing that looked good about this matchup. I expected Washington to get down and be forced to throw, leaving Portis without much. Even though that wasn't exactly what happened, Portis still didn't do anything. 12 carries...36 yards...and 9 more receiving yards. I had to decide between Portis, SJax, Chet Taylor, MJD, and Chatman. I posted a poll to see what everyone thinks. The popular opinion was Taylor and SJax, even though they weren't the 2 highest here. I considered starting them but based on Portis' rating I couldn't bench him. I went with him and Taylor, although the FBGs rankings would have told me to go with Portis and SJax. All in all, I lost by 5 points, exactly what I would have had if I had started SJax over Portis, like the community told me to. However if I would have started who the FBGs said to, I would have gotten my ### handed to me worse. I'm just wondering if we really need to pay $25 for some guys to give us quite possibly bogus rankings, or if we just need a forum where we can gather and make better, more accurate suggestions for who to start...this isn't the first time this year that using the FBGs rankings instead of common sense has cost me a win.

Rankings are to help give you an idea of possible performance. I always say go with your gut first.

I would guess that those who were riding Portis high this past week were doing so because the Redskins had shown to run the ball very often recently. The major point is not only often, but they continued to run the ball even when they were behind in the previous two games before playing Dallas. As you know, most teams get away from the run when they are behind...so, one could argue that the Redskins were showing value in the RB position regardless of the score of the game. Thus, you have to value that slightly more...

You are getting great value for your subscription pay because now you have someone to blame for making the wrong choices. Did you really think projections would be 100% accurate? I always use resources to help me understand matchups to make educated decisions on who to start but ultimately, I make the call on who I am starting.

Let me get this out of the way:

I'm sure if you had won your game by five points you'd be on here starting a thread that said "Hey, great call on _______! You won me my game! I couldn't have done it without you!" No, more likely you'd be talking smack to your buddies about how savvy you are at FF.

Then don't pay the money next year... but really.

Portis the last two weeks had 196 and 136 or so yards rushing. The Redskins line was doing well. Admittedly, the Cowboys matchup was not great, but I understand the rankings here, and honestly agreed to them.

If you felt Portis was a bad play, then you shouldn't have started him. This is a place where you get advice - no one is right 100%, or even 75% of the time. It's just another opinion to consider.

1) Yes, you could have2) No, unless you have signed some form of contract

3) A little bit of common sense should help you from making the same mistakes over and over

4) Ah-ha, here is the problem

All I can really say to this poster is "WOW." Wow, wow, wow.

No go out and grow a set of cajones and start making some decisions for yourself. What other guides do you use to get yourself through each day? Is there a "wakeup guide" a "breakfast decision guide"? Maybe an "after dinner drink guide"? A "when to bathe guide"?

Common dude. Seriously. If you can't find value in what this site's for pay services offer and then integrate that value into your own decision making, you're helpless. :goodposting:

Actually its even simpler than that. If you can't find value in it, then don't buy it.

Uh-oh...only FBG fanboys around...you guys are probably Pats fans too. I do make my own decisions, but the #4 ranking for Portis? I expect them to be SMARTER than me. As far as the preseason stuff goes, I think it's great. I used the resources here and I have the highest scoring team in my league. But I don't have the best record...thanks to things like Portis being #4 this week. I wish that we could buy a preseason membership only, is that an option? Because as far as weekly predictions, I think they put all the players on their own positional dart board and then start chuckin darts. Bam! Portis at 4 with a horrible matchup. Bam! Chester Taylor at 10 even though everyone (and their grandma) expects him to tear it up!

It is a preseason membership. The regular season is a free bonus.

I, too, had to choose between Portis and another back. I chose to bench Portis in favor of Grant.

:goodposting: The rankings also had Evans much higher than Driver, but factoring in the matchups and Evans' history vs. NE, I played Driver. Please don't blame the FBG rankings for your loss.Who in their right mind would start Portis vs. DAL over SJAX vs. SF anyways?GL

On those days when I wonder why we humans have a need for organized religion, I'm going to go back to this thread.
:loco: Clever and philosophical.
Thank you, sir.For many years now, I've been truly fascinated by a foot-stomping resistance to doing one's own thinking. It's too late to be resentful when it turns out the kool-aid you were drinking at Jonestown is tainted with cyanide...

I rarely comment negatively on other posts, but this one is terrible. Are you seriously blaming FootballGuys for your lose? The rankings are nothing more than a GUIDE. No one has ever claimed that Football Guys are fortune tellers. If you agree with them great, if not, go with your gut. You lost the game plain and simple, suck it up and be a man.

 It takes skill integrate Jonestown into a FF discussion.

Not really, if you like to follow Pasquino\'s projections anyway. :lmao:
