Closers not worth much? (1 Viewer)

I have T. Jones, K. Gregg, D. Baez.J. Walker, and Hennessey/Messenger. Not to mention, I have Greinke as a possible closer replacement if Dotel moves (could be Soria but hard to tell).

I'm getting offered JD Drew, Luis Castillo, Kevin Millar, Aubrey Huff, Yunie Betancourt, and maybe someone else for these guys, for the most part straight up offers. These are offers for Jones and Gregg pretty much.

Should I not expect to get more than what I've been offered here?

I would take JD Drew straight up for any of those guys. What do you want for Kevin Gregg, Prince Fielder?
I'll probably end up going for Pedroia or Castillo but saves seems like a more valuable commodity than avg. which is basically all those guys bring. Drew hasn't done jack and the fact that the Sox tried to get Dye tells me that they're willing to make him a 4th OFer the rest of the way. Gregg might just be in the top 10 closers in the league. Why wouldn't I expect more than anyone on that list for him?

A few things.1-How many people are in your league? The reason why closers aren't rated very high is that they primarily only score in one category, and everyone has a few. Couple that with the fact Gregg wasn't even a closer when the year started and most owners, rightfully so can not give up much for one, and pick one up from the free agent heap.2-I wouldn't want Castillo. He is a free agent in one of my leagues, as he doesn't put up huge steal numbers any more. His average is nice, but no power or rbi's. Pedroia is so-so at best. If you want one of them that's fine....but I'd rather keep a closer.3-Jermaine Dye is right handed. Drew is a lefty. The reason they went after Dye is to get another right handed big bat in their lineup. Willy Mo Pena has been a disappointment this year. Sure Drew hasn't had a banner year, but at any point he could break out and put up huge numbers. You want to buy guys low, and Drew for a closer you no longer need sounds more than reasonable. No way they gave Drew the contract they did to make him a 4th outfielder.4-Gregg is an unproven commodity on a good streak. No way anyone is going to give you full value. If you like him, keep him and deal Jones. I own Jones in one league and would jump at an offer to trade him. I've shopped him around for the last month, no one wants him. In fact, I usually reserve him (I also own Putz, Valverde and Saito in that league).

This is a 20 team league with about 25-26 guys on each roster. A team is fortunate to have 2 closers. I have 4. I'd actually like to deal both Gregg and Jones as I think I could still pull off the category or at least be in the top 3 out of 20 with a few saves from Baez and Hennessey the rest of the way. That said, MI are pretty rare too (Jose Castillo, Bautista's part-time replacement is probably the best option on the WW) so Pedroia and Luis Castillo both have some value (Pedroia a little more because he's in front of Papi in the BOS lineup). The guy just said that I'm close with an offer of Gregg and Monroe for Castillo and Dejesus. Monroe is my UTIL so I'd love to replace him with a full-time player that can hit .280 and score.I hate to give a guy a saves monster like Jones (he hurts some categories but really does get a ton of save ops) when I'm competing with him for the title, especially for a guy I don't think will really produce. As for Dye, the report said that the Sox would've given Dye 5 starts a week so he would have done more than fill in against lefties. I think the Sox are going to work with Drew a lot in the offseason so it's not as though he'd be a 4th OF after this year but I don't think that they're high on him producing the rest of the way. Or maybe that report was to send him a message to pick it up (he is having a nice little game tonight).

Ended up getting Quentin for Jones. It's not great for me but I have nothing to lose being far behind of first. If Quentin can do anything close to what he did in AAA recently, I'll be very pleased. I was also offered Willits for Jones but Willits was horrible the last month. I re-offered Jones for Drew but the guy didn't get back to me soon enough.

I also traded Hennessey and Matthews for Chris Gomez and Dejesus (desperate for 2b).
