Coach K and Cutcliffe is there a better duo? (1 Viewer)

Thinking about Michigan State here: Tom Izzo and Mike Dantonio. I think Dantonio has more skins on the wall than Cutcliffe (since 2007: three Big Ten titles, Rose Bowl victory, CFB playoff appearance).

Obviously Coach K scores big, but Izzo is not all that far behind.

I'm still bitter about starting my freshman year of college at a school with Dean Smith and Mack Brown as head coaches, and within a matter of weeks (Smith) and then a few months (Brown) that duo became Bill Guthridge and Carl ####### Torbush.

That's pretty good.

Pitino and Petrino might be up there.
There's a lot of better combos because Cutliffe isn't all that remarkable.  No conference titles, sub-.500 record at Duke, one January bowl game.

I'll take Avery Johnson's resume, which includes an NBA Finals and NBA COY, easily over Cutliffe, much bigger gap exists, if any, between Krzyzewski and Saban.

Fixed football coach's first name.

I am obviously biased but it's hard to top MSU here.

I think making Duke football relevant for 3-4 seasons is pretty damn remarkable. It's obviously hard to compare the pro resume of Johnson and Cutcliffe's college resume.

In this silly comparison, let's see Johnson do something.. anything...of note without Dirk Nowitzki first. Prime Dirk meant you were starting the season with at least 52 wins.

It would be hard for Saban to win at Duke and I am not joking, Cutcliffe does more with less than anyone.  Your are so limited there by the college entrance requirements.  Last person to win at football at Duke was Spurrier.

The entrance requirements thing is a myth.  Average SAT score at Duke football is at least 200 points lower than average SAT score at Duke.

Well, that explains why Avery Johnson was fired after a 51-31 season.  Especially after having 60- and 67-win seasons there.

Cutcliffe?  :lmao:
Yep, it is funny that Peyton went to Duke in the off season to work with him, almost every year.  Do you even know anything about him?

Downside, is he helps Eli too, but 4 rings, might be funny to the uninformed.

Athlon Sports recently did a ranking of all 128 college football coaches and the top 50 college basketball coaches for 2016.  Here are the top duos according to their rankings:

1.  Michigan State - Izzo (3), Dantonio (4)

2.  Michigan - Beilein (12), Harbaugh (3)

3.  Duke - Krzyzewski (1), Cutcliffe (15)

3.  Louisville - Pitino (4), Petrino (12)

3.  Ohio State - Matta (14), Meyer (2)

6.  Oklahoma - Kruger (18), Stoops (5)

I've got two alma maters in the top 3.  The state of Michigan is killing the coaching game right now.

6 seems like a fraud.
