Coach of the year? (1 Viewer)

I realize people will want to give it to a guy like Mike Smith or Tony Sparano for turning around their teams, but I really think its going to be Jeff Fisher.

I think this one's up in the air. A number of coaches have done great jobs.

Here's my breakdown and their chances:

Fisher: 25%

Coughlin: 15%

Mike Smith: 15%

Sparano: 15%

Zorn: 10%

Mangini: 10%

Fox: 5%

Gruden: 5%

Jeff Fisher.

But if you really want to know who did the greatest coaching job this year (much as I dislike him), it is Bill Belichick.

How could you not include Belichick in that list? Just because you don't think he has a chance for some reason? I have heard his name mentioned multiple times in multiple circles.

I think it'll be Fisher and Smith will miss out after putting forth one of the best coaching jobs in a long time. It's almost a shame really.

As much as I'd like to disagree with this, I can't.Anyone think Wisenhunt deserves consideration?

The Pats had a nearly undefeated SB team last year.

They've done a decent job of recovering from a tough positional injury...

but unless last year's team was a mirage, they already had the talent to win a fair amount of games this year regardless of their QB.

So the coaching job doesn't particularly stand out.

Wisenhunt does not deserve consideration. He is 7-5 so far, with 4 of those wins coming against the NFC west where all 4 teams have given up over 300 points.

Nope. The Cardinals are a very undisciplined team, which goes back to coaching, and Wisenhunt seems to make several head-scratching coaching moves per game. His team will win their division, but probably with a 9-7 record. No way should he receive any consideration when you consider the great jobs done this season by Smith, Coughlin, Fisher, Sparano, etc.

Belichick? Eh. He has done a good job, but not coach of the year worthy. The Pats weak schedule (Non-conference games against the AFC and NFC West) lessens the coaching credibility a little bit IMO.

John Harbaugh deserves some consideration too seeing what he's done in Baltimore with a rookie QB and injured backfield and secondary.

I can see your point, but what he's done with Matt Cassel when everyone left 'em for dead after Brady went down, I think is some pretty top notch stuff.

Which positional injury are you referencing? QB, RB, LB, db/safety?This year there are several excellent candidates, so my vote would have to go to a coach of a divisional winner. At this moment, my leading candidates would include coughlin, fisher, tomlin, smith.

Coughlin probably gets it for both last year and this year.

Fisher gets it if Tennessee ends up with a better record than the Giants.

If Atlanta makes the playoffs, Smith has an outside shot, but the NFC South turns over too often. If it's not a fluke, then the guy who can turn a team around like that will have a chance for coach of the year in the future.

Belichick doesn't get it, but he's killed the talk about Spygate, and that's probably enough for him.

Sparano won't get it because people see it as Parcells.

Mangini won't get it because people see it as Favre.

I think Fisher is more impressive to some because the Titans weren't expected to be that good. Others will say how repeating is difficult. I really think the Titans will have a large # of pro bowlers. I wonder if that will hurt or help Fisher. We've discussed NY press (or any big city) on other occasions. Does Mangini steal votes from Coughlin or does that just not apply here?

good point

After Brady first got hurt, that was some of the worst coaching I've ever seen him do. The Fins destroyed them and he couldn't react to what was almost the same play over and over.
Sparano won't get it because people see it as Parcells.
True, poor guy he's done well. Wonder if he ever will get credit. David Lee(? wildcat guy) probably would get credit next after Parcells as well.
Mangini won't get it because people see it as Favre.
I agree. Almost feels like Favre and the other player moves, as if they should be separated. Mangini's gameplan was awesome for the Titans otherwise he hasn't impressed, to that degree, that much this year. 2 years ago he thoroughly impressed me. Last year he stunk. This is some middle ground IMO. Jet fans should be glad. Looks like they have a good coach for a long time now.
