Haslett fired

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the New Orleans Saints have fired head coach Jim Haslett. He was informed of general manager Mickey Loomis' decision Monday morning, Jan. 2, and then Loomis met with owner Tom Benson shortly after to finalize the details. Loomis will begin interviewing candidates immediately. The Saints are expected to announce the move later today.

Capers fired

The Associated Press reports the Houston Texans have fired head coach Dom Capers.

Vikings Fire Tice

ESPN.com reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice was fired after the team's Week 17 win over the Chicago Bears.

Vermeil to Retire

The Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach **** Vermeil will retire after the 2005 season. Vermeil informed the team of his decision during a team meeting Saturday, Dec. 31.

Packers Fire Sherman

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Green Bay Packers have fired head coach Mike Sherman. General manager Ted Thompson informed his coach that the franchise was heading in another direction early Monday morning, Jan. 2.

Green Bay will move swiftly to begin interviewing candidates to replace him including Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress and New York Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis.

Rams Fire Martz

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz was told Monday morning Jan. 2, that the team has fired him.

The team has also asked permission to interview Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera for the head job. In addition to Rivera, the team is expected to make a strong run at Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
