Sorry if a Honda:

Palmer diplomatically disses Ochocinco

The verbal salvos from Carson Palmer about Chad Ochocinco's absence from the Bengals this offseason have intensified.

On Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday, Palmer issued his strongest criticism yet about the absence of the ninth-year wide receiver.

"It's definitely a new look for the Bengals receiver corps but I couldn't be happier with the guys we've got," Palmer said. "T.J.'s (Houshmandzadeh) gone and Chad's pretty much gone, he hasn't been here, so we've got guys that want those two spots, guys that compete day in and day out, when we're out there on the field, running, conditioning and in the weight room lifting. They're guys that want to take over for those two spots. They look every bit capable of doing what we're going to ask them to do."

When asked what his expectations about Ochocinco this season were, Palmer said: "Well, I really don't know. I haven't talked to him. I haven't talked to anybody that has talked to him. He wasn't here last year so I'm expecting him not to be here at all this year. Last year I think he was here for the mandatory camp but didn't participate in it. So I'm planning on him not being here just because he hasn't been here yet so we'll prepare, like I said.

"We've got Chris Henry ... He's a guy that's had a great offseason, really turned his life around. I'm excited to watch him play. He's a guy that seems like he catches a touchdown every other ball that's thrown to him, he's that explosive. He's kind of taken over for Chad's position and he's a guy that, like I said earlier, does not want to give up that spot right now."

Palmer also praised the play of receivers Laveranues Coles, Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson during the interview on the "Movin' the Chains" show. Palmer has repeatedly said during the conditioning drills that he was only concerned about the players who were in Cincinnati.

Ochocinco is reportedly training in Los Angeles, and is expected to be at the mandatory minicamp June 18-20.
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2009052...Cg0kadgCLNQw%3DIs this just Palmer making another dig at COC to get him motivated? It does not seem like Chad is Palmers best friend.

I know it is only May but is this something to be concerned about in regards to Chad Ochocinco's opportunity?

I haven't heard anything about Henry getting into more trouble over the past year and according to this is working really hard. Might just be fluff but I thought interesting.

Carson is a professional. Chad Ocho Cinco....well that pretty much sums him up right there doesn't it? He's an idiot.

QB trying to manage his prima donna WR through indirect pressure. Nothing more.

I get what he's trying to do, but a personal phone call to Johnson to ask him to come in would look more like leadership to me than this kind of stuff. Since Palmer volunteered that he hasn't spoken to him, it makes me wonder if he's tried. I want to be clear that I'm not excusing Johnson, he's an ### in many cases. I'm just saying I think Palmer could be a little smarter about how he plays team leader.

Palmer would like for Johnson to be present. But when the season starts, if Johnson is open, Palmer will throw to him. The Bengals can't afford to be intentionally overlooking open WR's on gameday.

Does anyone remember the article where Palmer and #85 were so close they wanted to be just like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison were at the time. They talked about picking Manning and Harrison's brain to find out how they were so successful. They talked about working in the off-season like Manning / Harrison. My my how times have changed. Of course having one of them dumber than a bag of hammers doesn't help.

Chris Henry will be on every fantasy team I draft this season. I really think this is his breakout year.
I took him in the second to last round of many drafts last year. While it didn't work out, I'm going to target him again this year. Chris Henry saying he's turned his life around doesn't carry much weight. The leader of the team saying it, however, makes it much more believable.

Yes, I remember hearing that Carson and Chad even took a road trip to Indy together to watch Peyton and Marvin play. Out of college, I think Chad really desired to be the best player in the league. Somewhere along the line that changed into a desire to be the most popular player in the league.

I'll be looking at Lav Coles if I look at any WRs from that team. You folks can mess with the others. Yuk!

many owners will pass on him because of off field issues and the risk, but as we know sometimes the key to winning fantasy football is taking a chance and having it pay off....what he does off the field and mistakes he has made in the past don't mean much when it comes to fantasy.....he seems to have all the things he needs for a breakout season1. talent2. opportunity (whoseyourmamma gone/replaced by coles)3. solid QB4. questionable running game (see Benson)5. questionalble defense (need to throw)6. eventually teams have to go with their strengths and this team's strength is Palmer passing...

I remember reading/hearing about bad blood between the two either last year or the year before. I don't think this is motivational by Carson, I think there's true bad blood there and from Carson's POV I can understand why...you've got a guy who's a clown, has said multiple times over the past few years that he doesn't want to be there, is totally about himself and his personal TD dances, Ochocinco nonsense and wants out of Cincy and Carson is looking to build a team in Cincy so you have two guys on opposite ends of the spectrum here...

I agree with this.If Carson Palmer is "class" then I'm ditching.

Hope he has given up HoF aspirations also. He is 31 and would have to put up some monster years to even have a chance.

His last name is now Ochocinco so if you want to shorten his name even more it should be CO, not COC. Just my dos centavos.

So was Ochocinco the only one missing from the voluntary offseason workouts? Look Carson if far from professional at this point. This goes both ways. You have not heard anything from Ochocinco this off season, yet Carson keeps dragging him down. Last year Ochocinco as all over the news, this year he has been silent. All I know the Bengals are heading for a train wreck of a season if they don't move Ochocinco. With the lack of leadership that Palmer is showing by his actions this offseason you have to wonder if he is the right QB to lead this team. Or if the "team" really feels this way why does managment keep Ochocinco??

I was prepared to see a "much ado about nothing" off-season fluff piece with a beat writer making something out of nothing but those are pretty harsh words from Palmer there.

what lack of leadership? I'm not getting that at all....

Well to be fair when Palmer says Chad wan't around last year, Palmer wasn't really either. However he is leading by example by being involved in the OTA unlike Chad. Not sure what else greenroom might be refering to. I know there is a lot of dislike for Palmer amoungst some people.

For all of his "professionalism" Palmer has the same number of playoff wins as Chad. I dont ever recall Palmer sleeping at the team facility two to three nights a week preparing for the upcoming opponet. Nor do I recall him

after losing a regular season game. I believe that Chad is truly passionate about the game of football but has no desire to play for the Bengals.

This makes Palmer look bad. "Chad wasn't here last year?"

Last time I checked, one of them was playing hurt for the Bengals last year - and his name wasn't "Carson Palmer".

Yeah, I read somewhere that OC was the only one missing. Management (and I use the term loosely here) keeps Chad because he sells jerseys.

Brett Favre basicly did the same thing to Javon Walker when he was holding out. the sound bite that ESPN is playing makes it sound like Carson is talking Chad not being at Mini Camp instead everyone refering him not being on the team. Also, I got Henry on my sleeper list. Before TJ signed with seattle I read that Henry moved in with Carson in southern Cali and was working out with Palmer and TJ. Sounds like he may be committed and trying to take football seriously.

Hasn't time shown that the problem is the Bengals management and not the players? Marvin Lewis lost this team two years ago. Chad, while an attention whore, also showed a great passion for the game early in his career. I can't blame him one bit from wanting to move on. Not one bit.

This is all about wanting a trade. According to TJ Housh everyone on the team would like to be traded out of that mess.
