Cold Brees (1 Viewer)

I heard on NFL Network that Brees is 2-6 in games under 40 degrees, but his stats don't look bad.

6 games played where the temp was between 21 and 40 degrees and Brees has a 90.8 QB rating, 149/234, 63.7 pct, 1684 yds, 280.7 ypg, 9 tds and 4 ints

Add the fact that the Bears pass defense is suspect, especially with Vasher out, it would be stupid to bench Brees.

Chicago weather for Thurs

Tomorrow: Some sun in the morning with increasing clouds during the afternoon. High 32F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph.

Tomorrow night: Some flurries during the evening hours. Then cloudy skies overnight. Low 19F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph.

Repeat after me:

I will NEVER bench Brees

I will NEVER bench Brees

I will NEVER bench Brees

I will NEVER bench Brees

:) This game could be played on an Arctic Tundra. He's not leaving my lineup. You'd find me in February still huddled in the corner of my bedroom closet mumbling, "But it cold out".

That wouldn't be so easy to say if you also had Warner like me
I have the same problem, if you can call it that. Leaning towards Warner myself.
Me too but will probably lose sleep over it tonite
Rodgers is my other option and this is also a tough call.

I'm in Chicago. Weather tomorrow night looks to be in the 20s, overcast, with minimal wind. Should be fine for the passing game.

Same here. If Cutler's matchup looked nice it would be an easier decision. But at Carolina doesn't look particularly appealing. Considering how well the Panthers are running (and how rotten Denver's D is) Cutler might only see the ball for 20 minutes. On topic, benching Brees depends on your options. But it's unlikely anyone has a player that would be way above his potential. Brees might only have normal stats Thursday, but that doesn't make him worse than most backup options. Might as well start the guy with the great history this season in that case.Warner is the only guy I'd definitely start over him. If Brees has a good night, Warner has to match it in the race to catch Marino. if Brees has a bad game, Warner can overtake him this week (I think he's about 80 yards back now). Either way, the Cardinals won't be running the ball well so it's on Warner. Otherwise, I think Brees is the guy you start unless the weather is terrible (supposed to be cold but relatively clear).

I am in Wisconsin. Yeah, I know you acclimate to your climate. But 25 degrees just isn't that cold when you are active. Trust me, I wish it was b/c I face Brees this week.

General question for those with the Brees dilemma: Anyone know how the Bears have been on pass D at home specifically? I know they're weak overall, but do they step it up at home? I know Brian Griese threw for a lot of yards, but that was kind of a fluky game.

Drew Brees against Chicago

week 17 2007 35 of 60 for 320 yds and 3 tds. He threw 2 picks. Dec 7, 2007

2006 playoffs 27 of 49 for 354 yds and 2 tds. He threw 1 pick. Jan 21, 2007

Just guessin' that the weather wasn't too much better than it will be tomorrow. Pretty sure the the Bears D was better that it is now. Brees may be better at home but much like Charlie Sheen, he has no problem scorin' on the road.

Not sure home vs away tendency...but the 3 cbs chicago has are: Trumane mcbride, Corey graham, and spencer tillman. With Vasher IR'ed......I'm loving brees. Other option is Cutler. Ain't thinking twice about benching Brees either

Brees has been on fire - he's got Colston, Shockey, Moore, Bush/Thomas to throw to ........ crazy to bench Brees CRAZY !

You all are going to bench the number 1 fantasy qb in football, on a thursday night game with recent games being high scoring, with a bad pass defense, and with him getting all of his weapons back healthy (colston, schockey, bush), and with a solid running game now to rely on (thomas) all because it is in soldier field and it might be cold?

Are you all out of your minds?

Unless you have Warner, who else are you going to start over him?

look what Garcia/Bryant did last week with the Panthers running game being so dominant ... i think Cutler/Marshall/Royal will be just fine ... i mean, Garcia/Bryant are a nice lil' combo, but .... jeez, Cutler and his WR's >>>>>>>>>>>>> Tampa passing game.

i have Cutler going in one semi-final (over Warner), and Brees absolutely going tonight in another.

Chicago weather is going to be in the upper 20s this evening. They say clouds. In the winter- when it clouds by the lake it brings a greenhouse feel. If the wind blows it is bad. The bottom line with weather in December in Chicago is that wind. "Bear" weather is a myth. This is a prime time game and all of the recent Thursday games have been mostly score happy. Add in the fact that Brees and Orton are going to have a friendly Purdue competition and both teams are fighting for a WC and you will see some scoring. Add another heap of revenge for the Saints in losing in that NFC Championship game and last season and you have more evidence. Add in the fact that Tommie Harris has not practiced and is no where near being healthy and you will see exposed linebackers for the Bears. Their corners are over matched. Unless the Bears get a big play they are going to lose this game if it turns into a shoot out.

The Bears must use Forte to control the clock. Is the rookie ready to tote it 25 plus at week 15?

If there is a factor in this game outside of the players it will be the crummy playing surface.

Barring an injury- Brees will hit for 280 2-3 TDs and 2 picks

I agree the field is going to be a bigger factor than the weather. Right now it's in the 20s in Chicagoland and frankly it doesn't feel all that cold (little wind). However, it's been pretty wet all week, so the field could be sloppy tonight.

oh ill be lucky to make it to work tomorrow. got a bar crawl all day saturday in wrigleyville, and then the hawks on sunday night. im so damn awesome.

Weather looks fine tonight. I do worry about the field conditions with the grounds crew having a short week and bad weather; not much time to repair Sunday's damage on an already beat up surface.

How do you think Brees will use Shockey tonight? Shockey has played well lately but has not had a TD recently, maybe he is due? The bears have not been a bad matchup for TE either (Thanks Bob Henry). With an expected tougher time in the running game does Shockey get extra looks?

The Bears pass defense is terrible. The weather and turf conditions won't change that fact. I think benching Brees against the Bears would be insanity.

Pure insanity. As far as I can remember, Brees has had two games where people were calling to bench him because of conditions. SD in London and against TB a couple of weeks ago. He lit them up in the London game and had a very respectable stat line in the TB game. You don't use weather as an excuse for this guy unless it's blizzard New England type stuff.

I watched the Falcons-Saints game as I have Brees in one league and Turner in another and Shockey was targeted a bunch. He also was wide open on a 30 yard TD that Brees overthrew. A little air on it and Shockey had an easy TD. Seemed like Shockey was Brees' favorite target last week, at least while I was watching.

Was thinking(or overthinking) of benching Brees for Rodgers but that just isn't going to happen. Starting Brees with confidence

One factor I have not seen discussed is that Brees' starting left tackle, Jamal Brown, is going to be out for this game with an ankle injury. I have no idea what the backup tackle situation is but it really makes me concerned about sacks coming from the backside with the Bears defensive front.

I have Brees and Cutler. I don't know if I should really care but both Dodds and Bloom have Cutler rated above Brees this week. What's a man to do?! :)

Gordon, will you ask Norm who I should start between Akers and Gould?Much Thanks!
You must know that Norm is very hostile to me at times and this time was no different. He told me ....and I quote "Don't d**m call here again!

Drew played terrible last night. Missed a couple of TDs. But, his WRs and TEs were dropping wide open passes too. Just ugly.

Not having seen the game (no NFL network), I'm very sad to hear that. His final stat line was about what I expected it to be, replete with the 2 INTs. I did figure he'd wind up throwing the ball over 50 times considering where he was at half time, but looks like the game situation didn't seem to allow it.

He missed a WIDE open Mecham in the endzone on the 2nd INT. The announcers showed it a couple of times. He also missed Moore on in the endzone earlier in the game. (by "missed", I mean he didn't even look at them). And then threw a laser that was tipped by Urlacher and fell to the ground intended for Colston in which if he would have put a little air under it Colston walks into the endzone. Just not a very good night for Brees.
