Coles and Cotchery for Wk 16 (1 Viewer)

Seattle, according to this site, gives up huge FF points to WRs. Curious as to why they are ranked so low. They're ranked down with the likes of S Holmes and M Jenkins when, on the surface, this would seem like a great matchup against a bottom of the barrel D (in terms of FF points surrendered).

Anyone have any disputing, or supporting, opinions?

Potential bad weather, Holms last game as coach, SEA rush D is not that good, SEA Stadium tough place to play ...

Not to mention wildly inconsistent production. I have Cotchery on the bench right now, even though on paper this is a prime match-up.
As do I, mainly due to that inconsistency, but started second guessing it when I saw the FF points vs Seattle. Pretty dang tempting.

I'm still considering playing him but the other factor I can see impacting this game is that is Holmgren's final home game (as silentmark pointed out) - I can see Seattle playing some inspired ball this weekend. Plus, I'm wondering if Favre's arm is dead. That said, in my league, Seattle is dead last through Week 15 in giving up fantasy points to WRs, and 4th worst over the last 3 weeks. In other words, consistently bad so it's hard to sit him. Who knows?!?!? :goodposting:

People have been starting Coles/Cotch lately? Coles has been on my bench all year behind V.Jackson. NYJ passing game has been a total disappointment for awhile now. Still have no clue how Favre got to the ProBowl. Was the voting limited to his family members?

I haven't started either since the St. Louis game ( 1 in each league). Just trying to talk myself out of this matchup, I guess.

Unless the weather turns out to be incredibly awful, I'm starting Cotchery in my league (PPR) without hesitation. That matchup is just too good to pass on.

We all hope for your sake you are correct. Are you desperate? Who are you benching for him?
I wouldn't say I'm desperate but I want as much upside in my lineup as I can get and I think Cotchery has a lot of upside given the matchup and the PPR format. The Jets did a good job of getting both WRs more involved last week and the Seahawks give up passing yardage like candy on Halloween. I think Jones does his usual damage but there should be more than enough for Cotchery. The main concern I do have (other than any potential weather issues) is the Jets have traveled poorly out West this season. That does concern me. But the Seahawks are just a miserable football team and I'm going to play the percentages which leads me to believe they won't suddenly get better on Sunday. We'll see how it plays out but right now Cotchery is in my lineup. If I have to sit Houshmandzadeh due to the weather in Cleveland then it will become nearly impossible to bench Cotchery.

I'm predicting a big game for Cotchery this week. Perhaps a long TD included. I don't own him in any league btw.

i've lost all my depth (and my first round pick- Thanks Marion Barber) to injury, so i dont have any other options at this point. I've got him and Favre in a ppr (and point per completion) league. My opponent has coles. I need some luck. I'm a slight dog without Barber. Not confident at all. I have tough matchups for the most part.

That's one thing I don't expect anymore. Favre isn't getting it done on passes downfield to Cotchery anymore. Other than Cotchery's great grab against the Patriots a few weeks back, I can't think of many big plays downfield the two have had since the Week 1 TD. Favre is more comfortable throwing short and intermediate passes and that also lends itself to Cotchery's strengths because he's a good intermediate route runner who can make yardage after the catch. I'm not trying to sell anyone on him. He hasn't lived up to the potential I thought he had but he hasn't been awful - at least not in my league. The dogs were brutal, no question about it. He's not a slam-dunk by any means but that's why he's a WR2/3 and not a WR1. But the matchup is great, the Jets did make a concerted effort to get their WRs more involved last week (and it worked) and that's enough for me. Another thing to consider is that with so many possible weather issues, there may not be a lot of strong WR2 and WR3 options this week. So a guy like Cotchery could be looking better if his game is one that isn't going to be adversely affected by the weather - assuming everything is fine in Seattle, of course.

What the crap...I'd go with Devin Hester. I really like my WR's to have 89.650 and 6.8962 numbers

And Seattle's not a very good run D, either. Case closed for me.

37 mph? Wow. This could be a killer for John Carlson owners too.

I live 15 minutes from Seattle, the weather has been really bad these last couple of days, and local news is reporting wind between 60-75mph on Sunday with snow/rain

That's Brett Favre weather if I ever saw it.

Starting Cotchery over Evans because I'm playing against Favre and want a hedge. I honestly don't see a big game from either.

OTHER LOCATIONS WITHIN THIS AREA SHOULD GET 5 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW.

ALONG THE I-5 CORRIDOR NORTH OF TACOMA... INCLUDING SEATTLE AND EVERETT... STORM-TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 4 TO 8 INCHES IS EXPECTED. WESTERN SKAGIT AND WHATCOM COUNTIES SHOULD RECEIVE ABOUT 3 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOW. IN GENERAL... LIGHTER AMOUNTS WILL OCCUR NEAR THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS WITH HEAVIER AMOUNTS FURTHER WEST ALONG THE SHORES OF PUGET SOUND. SOME PARTS OF EASTERN KING COUNTY... WHERE WIND IS A BIG THREAT... 80% chance of snow and winds topping out at 10 MPH

 As I said yesterday, there seems to be widely varied reports as to what kind of weather conditions to expect for this game. Right now I'm sitting Cotchery - if the weather looks like it won't be an issue (I'm more concerned about the reports of very high winds) I'd probably put back in given the match-up.

Agreed. The wind is the primary issue IMO. If it's above 20 MPH, it's a concern.Keep in mind one thing though guys. If the wind is not a major problem, the snow may actually be an advantage for the Jets offense. The Seattle secondary has had trouble all year covering WRs when there is sure footing. On iffy ground, the WR has the advantage because he knows where he is going and the defender does not. There's more likelihood of a defensive back slipping and falling, allowing for an uncovered WR and a big play, than a WR falling, because the DB has to react while the WR is running a predetermined pattern. Also, Seattle players most likely haven't been exposed to playing in the snow as much as Jets players. Cotchery has been with the Jets several years and has played at home, and also intra-division games in Buffalo and New England every year. And we all know Favre can play in poor weather. He had some incredible winning streak for a long time when playing in GB (I don't remember the specifics) where he always won when the temp was under something or other. The point is, if any QB would seemingly have an advantage over a defense not used to playing in snow, it would be Favre.

I've gone round and round on this. I have Coles. I like going against Seattle's lack of Defense, how could you not? I also like W.R.'s in snow. I think they have a distinct advantage over D.B.'s since reaction time is slowed as the first step is always tenuous.

That said cold is tough on muscle injuries. The likelihood or tears and reinjuries goes up. Favre has not faired well on west coast trips, excepting that Death of Irv game. I have decided to sit Coles. I realize this may bite me. He could easily get six or seven balls just on bubble screens. If he does and a D.B. falls even once he could easily go to the house 60 or 70 yards.
