College Dynasty (1 Viewer)

Would it be feasible to run a college dynasty league? It would be something different. Today, fantasy football is too commercial. It used to be that those who knew and understood football would have an advantage over the casual fan. But now, any Joe Blow can log onto ESPN, Yahoo, and boards like this and get all the info they need to compete (and win).

Imagine if you had to actually research the top high school recruits each year. There are many more NCAA teams them there are NFL teams, so there may be more players to choose from. Also, in a college dynasty, you wouldnt have to worry about your players being traded so much. Of course, you'd always have to worry about players coming out early, but NFL rules prevent them from coming out too early.

This is just an initial thought. I'm sure there are many pitfalls involved. But I'd be interested in hearing other's thoughts.

Thanks.

I think it would be cool, but you have alot of issues, to name a few:

-your best players will only be around for a couple years at best before getting drafted, which could be frustrating

-I would personally have no interest in following high school football with the purpose of drafting rookies... in the same way that I follow college FB to look for NFL rooks.

-having hundreds of college teams and players to choose from and follow is next to impossible for fantasy purposes

-the differential between conferences and teams really skews the statistics of players in a way that would make it almost rediculous in fantasy

I'm sure this has been debated at length here, so go ahead and look for links.

We're entering our 4th year and going strong over in Zealots Field.

3 leagues, 16 teams each.

11 game season with the championship game played over the course of the Bowl season.

Our league has a home-school twist in that each owner can name his "Home School" and gets first dibs on all incoming recruits for that school. The initial 2 champions in our league had home schools of Illinois (1-10 that year) followed by Rutgers. You canpick your alma mater's crummy football team and still field a champion.

It's a phenomenal league and adds a lot of juice to your college rivalries when you get to play that same team in your FF league as well.

Oh, and as far as prep time... you no longer have to prep for NFL drafts because you know ALL the draft-eligible players as you've been playing with them or against them... in our case for 3 years now.

I could see random Ivy League players being quite good in this format, since they typically all play 4 years and the games between say Penn and Bucknell can be quite lopsided.

It's certainly an interesting way to go even more hardcore.

Here is the best example I know of when looking for the hybird dynasty keeper college/NFL league. The name is Cradle to the Grave.

College and Pro teams are treated seperately so its like playing 2 games a week H2H instead of one a week.

Take a look if you like as our draft is almost over.
