College RB Cam Skattebo, Arizona State (1 Viewer)

Jordan Schultz
For all the Cam Skattebo doubters out there, here’s a fun note from an NFL scout: “Not sure what he’s gonna run, nor do I care. You can’t bring the dude down. That’s a skill that translates to the pro level.”

@scoutdnfl
Can Skattebo forced 92 missed tackles in 2024, the 3rd most in the NCAA.

His career ELU rating (a statistic that measures a runner’s impact independent of blocking) is higher than: Saquon Barkley, Jahmyr Gibbs, Breece Hall, Josh Jacobs, and more.

Don’t ask me what I think about him as a prospect. I don’t have a true answer for you yet. I just thought many of you would be interested in these figures.

Lance Zierlein
The great RB coach Kirby Wilson once told me a RB needed to have wiggle, power or speed in order to create for himself and become a pro back. He can be great with two and Adrian Peterson if he has all three.

Cam Skattebo creates for himself with power. He'll play in the NFL.

What a performance from this kid. Puking on the sideline and putting his squad on his back. Clearly a “football player” that many teams would love to add to their backfield. Not sure he has the burst and wiggle to lead a backfield, but clearly a guy who can be in the rotation and contribute.

Hate to use the "white RB" comparison but he could be a better Rex Burkhead who was a solid player when healthy for the Pats.

Yeah, I resisted to do the same but just natural to navigate to that. Rex is probably a decent comp when it comes down to it though. It would be different if Skattebo was a 4.4 guy, but that is not his game. Either way I think he has a lot to offer at the next level, like most non-elite players the success will depend on situation and opportunity.

For diversity purposes…a slower Zamir White…with Dylan Laube’s receiving chops. So basically if Zamir and Dylan had a baby…a very Raider comparison…so I suspect they will draft him

Agree, incredible performance. He is able to bully college kids but I fear at 215 he will not have the same success with that style in the NFL. He is diverse enough in the pass game to be an addition to the backfield, but I don’t see enough additional traits to think he can lead the group at the next level. Will be rooting for him though, kid is a true football player with a lot of heart.

I read that he is a senior. How much of him being much older than his peers factor into his punishing style of play against 18 & 189 year olds?

Not sure how his game will translate to the NFL, but this dude was fun to watch even before the Texas game, and is someone who is easy to root for.

He might run a 4.6/40 which will have scouts passing, but his contact balance is off the charts, and he's much more athletic than one might think.

It seems like it is impossible to scout/predict what running backs are going to be/do in the NFL. Coming out of the draft guys like Bijan and Breece looked like can't miss fantasy studs. Then they end up being eclipsed by non-descript guys like Kyren Williams, Chase Brown, and Chuba Hubbard. Seems like WR and QB are easier to gage, IMHO.

Team, scheme and coaches matter. Put Breece or Bijan on the Rams and they would be in the MVP conversation.

I agree but I don't.

Kyren was a must draft before drafts even started. Fear of him losing his job to Corum was the only thing pushing him down fantasy draft boards.

Chase Brown had to fight of Zack Moss and that pushed him down. He wasn't even the starter to begin the season.

Chuba Hubbard is an outlier. Seemed like Brooks would take his job once healthy...

Breece Hall and Bijan were both hampered by poor QB play. The answer is and continues to be... draft an RB on a strong offense.

Saquon should have been at the top. Henry should have been there too. Everyone tries to get cute and avoid the cliff on these older RBs but Barkley has never been on a team as good as the one he is on now.

I'm a little confused. Are you talking about overall career path? Or this season? I would say Kyren Williams has been a little better than Bijan overall, but not Brown or Hubbard. Or if this refers to this year, they were all very good, but none of them was as productive as Bijan. And Breece Hall has averaged 90 YFS/game over his career so far, and is still fairly young.

Situation and opportunity matters a lot. Bijan didn’t even have a poor rookie season, but this year he has reminded everyone why he was the greatest prospect at the position since Saquon.

You have to be patient sometimes.

Players like Chase Brown that the team has zero draft capital invested in are also much more susceptible to being replaced in the draft. We’ve seen that story over and over.

But we have also seen the draft capital narrative fall flat on its face recently. Many people were fading Kyren and Chubba, for instances. Same can be said for age cliff narrative for RBs. Kamara, Connor and Henry are some examples from the season.

Like this comp a lot. A more aggressive and angry Rex Burkhead.

Derrick Henry ran a 4.55 at the combine 8 years ago. After 8 years of battering in the NFL he has to be slower and still was not caught from behind yesterday.

Not sure how Cams game will translate to the NFL but he should make a roster at the very least.

On another note he can`t be 5-11. Looks about 5-8 on the field.

Yeah just a typo here whoops. But that is the obvious worry right?
The obvious worry is typos?
Yes if we can’t spell his name right, how can we know for sure we’re drafting the right player? But actually the worry is he’s just not big big enough or athletic enough to play his style of ball at the pro level.

He is one of those guys I feel you will know pretty early in camp whether his game translates to the NFL.

Sometimes that doesn’t even help.

My home redraft league still busts balls of the guy in our league who, for the 1st time in 15 or so years got 1.01, marched up the board all cocky & slapped up… the wrong Adrian Peterson sticker.

We gave him a mulligan, but he will never, ever live it down.

Ps - nothing worse for typos than Levis & Pennix.

Sorry Titans fans but I don’t think we will have to be worrying about spelling Will Levis name right for much longer.
