Harold Fannin Jr. is a different type of athlete at the tight end position. While he might not be TE1 in this year's draft, he might be the draft class's most interesting players at the position.
Positives:
Impressive athlete with rare body control and flexibility for his size. Naturally smooth route-runner with a good feel for space.
Vertical speed to threaten the seams with route running footwork and agility to run breaking route concepts effectively.
Dangerous ball carrier with the ability to pick up yards after the catch by making people miss or breaking tackles.
Negatives:
Underweight to play in-line. Blocking technique, knowledge, and power will need to improve to play in-line at the NFL level.
Focus drops and miscommunication with the quarterback showed up multiple times on tape.
Excelled against a lower level of competition where he was the best player on the field and used as a chess piece for the offense. What is his role in the NFL?

.@BG_Football TE Harold Fannin Jr with the one-handed TD catch in the red zone period
This is how Fannin wins— explosive first step, hand work to get clean vs. press, great ball skills. One foot down, but we’ll take it

.@BG_Football TE Harold Fannin Jr. is known for his receiving, but he’ll give you some pop as a blocker. Nice block here as the lead on this counter run to spring the back past the line

Enjoyed catching up with Harold Fannin Jr. Versatile & explosive athlete that has let his game as a blocker do the talking this week.![]()
Like you, I have moved Fannin down in my rankings, from TE3 to TE5.I've had to move him down to TE6 right now in part because of how much I like other TE's but also because I'm not at all a fan of hearing stuff like H-back/FB projections for him by some.

Concerns of Harold Fannin Jr. facing part-time status due to size & blocking.
Weight & PFF Run Block grade of recent TEs.
Fannin: 238 | 69.6
Bowers: 243 | 71.4
LaPorta: 245 | 56.1
Likely: 245 | 69.9
Kincaid: 246 | 60.5
Avg combine/draftees since 18: 249 | 63.2
It hasn't worked out for Likely/Kincaid so far but they also had incumbent TEs.
Could be same fate for Fannin, but should we rule out the chance that Fannin can play more than we think in a good landing spot?
Kind of feels like the RBs under 200 argument. League is evolving.
Worth noting that I didn't adjust any of the run blocking data for schedule, which is obviously a factor playing at Bowling Green versus Georgia, etc.
But Trey McBride was from Colorado State: 246 | 69.9

For what it’s worth, there is not a strong history of 6’3” 240lb tight ends that run 4.7 getting drafted very highly.
Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT
Harold Fannin running a 4.73u really puts this clip of him wearing lead cleats into perspective
Marcus Mosher
Isaiah Likely ran a 4.80 at 245 pounds.
It's why I'm not scared off by a 4.72 for Harold Fannin Jr.

Elite Drafters
Harold Fannin Jr
4.73 40 not ideal.
Athleticism is highly predictive for TE position.
Agility and overall RAS not bad though.

When I watched film of Bowling Green TE Harold Fannin Jr., I always appreciated the unique ways that he was used by HC Scot Loeffler, who is now the Eagles QB coach.
Wildcat QB
Pass attempt from RB
Screen targets from the backfield
Loeffler had Fannin do it all!![]()
