Colonoscopy preparation today..... (1 Viewer)

Found like tjeee I think. Two small and 1 was larger than he liked (2 mm) but he removed it and said his instincts say it’s pre cancerous.

Have to go back in a year. I don’t even feel like eating. Kinda freaked out/worried but maybe I’m overeating.

The fasting part wasn't bad at all. The worst part is having to drink that liquid on an empty stomach in the early morning.

Magnesium sulfate? Is that the worst this is going to be because that was a piece of cake. Tasted like a mediciney 7-Up.
Not sure. Tasted kinda like syrupy salt water. I had 2 doses. 1st wasn't bad but that 2nd b/c of the empty stomach and the time of the morning was rough. The fasting I thought was surprisingly easy. Actually got me into doing regular 24 hour fasts.

My old man has his first one tomorrow. He said they had him make his own drink with Gatorade and Miralax. Also had to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate.

This is why we do this.

Don’t freak until you have to but be glad you had the procedure.

Had my first one today. Prep wasn't horrible -- Magnesium Citrate 17 hours prior, SUPREP 12hrs prior, then SUPREP again 5 hours prior. Mixed the latter with orange juice and chugged it no problem.

Was worried that there would be a ton of gut pain all night, but no pain at all. Obviously had to make multiple trips to pee out my butt, but nothing some YouTube videos couldn't distract me with.

Actual procedure was fantastic. They gave me Propofol, Fentanyl (!!! -- apparently just a tiny amount), and Versed. They didn't even tell me the drugs were going in, and I was already waking up in recovery. Seriously it felt like zero time between the two.

Results came up "boring" (which beforehand the doctor told me was the best possible outcome). 10 years until my next one.

I'm getting scheduled for my first and they're violating just about every hole since I'm getting the endoscopy/colonoscopy combo meal.

Any idea what the recovery is like after? I may not want to schedule this right before a Vegas trip in a few weeks.

Can't speak from the former, but I'm feeling 100% normal after the latter. Butthole at 100%, same with everything else. Could be just because I get to eat now, and that is incredibly welcome.

Everyone's recovery is different and you should talk with your doctor but you probably need to wait at least a week.

Have one the thirteenth and it's already messing with my routine. I had one a decade ago, so I was more ready to poop in a box, but I guess not. I'm not doing this every decade. You hear me! Not every decade!

Okay, I protest too much and futilely. I hope this goes well. My word.

I went golfing the day of mine last year

Anyone recall how much they pooped after the first bottle of bowel prep? I've only gone twice and a half in the two hours since I took it. Does that sound right?

Sorry, don't remember that specifically. I do remember that following all the process steps did get me to where I needed to be.
Good luck!

I was a lil concerned that I wasn’t going enough and then the flood gates opened.

Good luck gb!

Thanks, guys! Second SuperPrep just went down at 5:05 or so PDT. I hope this clears it all up!

Just had one a few weeks ago. The first movement I created a new land mass. But then, I was pretty much done; just doing the brown, then yellow then clear water.

Thanks for the information. Yeah, I'm hoping for the clear stage somewhat soon. I won't go into too much information, but I'm getting close, I think. We'll see what happens if it stalls on yellow or something. Just took the other prep, so I should be, um, good to go in a few.

Went in for my first consultation a few weeks ago, and of course the doctor didn't forward any discussion about noninvasive alternatives such as Cologuard (stool sample screening). When I brought it up as an option, he said I could try that, and it has an accuracy rate of 92%. Seems acceptable to me rather than having to down that nasty drink and have a scope shoved up my butt. Have any of you tried Cologuard? Why doesn't everybody do this, except for those who are completely risk-intolerant?

I did. I wouldnt recommend it.
I did the deed, sent it away and forgot about it. My Dr office called with the results and it was positive and referred me to digestive health. They called me a few days later and said I needed a colonoscopy but I needed to be seen first 🙄. First appt 2 months out 🙄. So I try not to stress about it for 2 months. Impossible obviously.
The appt finally arrives they ask me a few questions and say “positive cologuard you need a colonoscopy asap”. Yeah, no duh.
I had it done I believe 4 days later.. no polyps, minor hemorrhoid , minor diverticulitis come back in 3 years. While that was obviously great news and I’m grateful I wish I had just done the colonoscopy to begin with.

I may be speaking out of my butt, but I was told that if you elect to do Cologuard and something comes up that was positive; you'd have to pay out of pocket for a proper colonoscopy.

That being said, I feel the worst situation is that if you did Cologuard and it came up false negative. You then wouldn't really know if you did have problems until maybe it was too late. I think a colonoscopy is the only way to REALLY be sure.

I wouldn't use Cologuard.

A colonscopy gives the doc all the info he needs. It's not that big a deal, you lose a few pounds, and you get a great nap. And if you are clean you wait another 10 years.

100% accuracy test vs 92% accuracy test.

Gimme the 100%.

As a guy who has had every hole violated, the recovery is cake.

The only thing about scheduling is try and pick an early morning appointment so you can get it over with. That way you aren't hungry all morning if you schedule later.

10 years? With family history, 5 years here.

That doesn't make any sense. My insurer (Cigna) didn't tell me that. Why wouldn't an insurer rather cover/pay for an inexpensive screening option rather than a more expensive procedure?

Because if you get a false negative, they’re paying oodles more for your cancer treatments at later stages. I don’t know. That’s the best I can come up with.

By the way, mine went fine. Two small polyps. 2 mm. Back in five or ten depending on biopsy, likely ten. I consider myself lucky.

Strongly encourage any and all to do planned colonoscopy as directed.

Went in for routine colonoscopy Jan 27. Found a polyp they couldn't remove traditional way and was sent for biopsy. Feb 10 was told it was cancer. Went in for CT scans on the 13th to see if the cancer had spread to lungs or liver. No indication of spreading. I was scheduled for surgery on Feb 24 and removed part of my descending colon. Two days in the hospital and another 7 days at home. Returned to work on March 7. Met with my oncologist yesterday the 12th. We determined that I would begin a combo of oral and IV chemo on the 24th of March. 4 cycles of chemo over 3 months.

Been a mind spinning couple of months.

Man, I'm sending it all your way. I hope your recovery is clean and strong.

Thanks. Recovery going great. Positive mindset. I am in the mood of just tell me what I need to do to beat this and I will get it done.

Just another road block in life, but avoiding any spreading to other organs and surgeon confidence that surgery "got it all" has made the process easier from the mental perspective.

Good on you to get this done. And that's why you do them.

My mom went through colon cancer, so I'm a high risk guy. They caught it early and she beat it. You got this.

Prayers to you for a full recovery.
