Colts RB situation going forward...2011 (1 Viewer)

Looking to deal for Donald Brown. Wondering what people think will happen w/ Addai. Is he a FA? What is being written/speculated in the Indy papers, etc...

Any info helpful. Thanks in advance!

I think Addai will be back in Indy. (Likely to share a lot more carries) I don't see him garnering a ton of interest on the market. I think the contract will be reasonable enough that the Colts will retain him.

Let's just put to rest any notion that Donald Brown is capable of being the starting RB for the Colts.

People have been saying for two years now that Addai was junk and would be replaced by Brown. It's simply not going to happen. And as evidenced by the Colts offense with Addai out, Addai is a far better NFL RB than people on these boards have given him credit for being.

It is clear that running that Brown is not a good fit for the IND offense and so I think Addai will be back if he is willing to sign for a reasonable amount.Unlike Switz, I am not convinced Brown isn't a good back and wouldn't at all be surprised to see him to go to an offense where they have more than one run play and do very well. I mean..come on...do the colts run any other run play besides the shotgun handoff and run up the gut? The backs are always hit at the line of scrimmage and everyone knows what the play is. Addai has more wiggle and can make more out of it; Brown would do better running in a more standard offense and following a FB.

Are you really serious? The Colts ran a number of run plays last night. I loved the one where there was a HUGE hole to the left, and Brown ran right into the OL man in front of him. I mean one step to the side and he would have had at least 5 yards untouched. It was telling that before the game, Manning said "we can't run on SD" - he has no confidence in Brown as a runner.

 You know who he reminds me of? Another RB you and I are big fans of - Brandon Jackson. Absolutely no clue what to do as a running back but a decent receiver out of the backfield. I think the Colts will re-sign Addai but given his durability concerns they may need to invest a draft pick of some kind in a RB. Brown doesn't look like he's starter's material and I'm not sure Hart is either.

Colts homer (season ticket holder) and Donald Brown owner.......it has become fairly evident that DB isn't a feature back at the moment....his best attribute is catching the ball on screens, etc. We saw that last night on the Colts 1st drive. I also have seem him run into the backs of to many his OL....

Colts will either re-sign Addai or address RB situation in draft or via FA (McGahee on the cheap?). Brown will remain or #2 (or possibly #3 if he doesn't get his crap together). FWIW there has been zero talk that I have seen with regards for a new contract for Addai in the local media.

I was surprised the Colts waited so long to go back to that. Like you said, it really worked on the first drive and played a big part in the Colts scoring. Then they stopped throwing to Brown until the latter stages of the game. That surprised me since it was the one thing he was doing well and it was one of the few things the Colts had that was working last night.

The Colts need a bruiser, somebody that can take a pounding because that is what happens to them behind that awful run-blocking line. As a colts fan I'd like to address the lack of size on the offensive line before giving up on Donald. He possesses more game-breaking ability than Addai, he's just not as tough. Even though Addai is tougher, he cannot stay healthy either, same goes for Hart/James.

If the line remains unchanged, I'd avoid any of Indy rb's.

Like Switz, I think people here under value Addai. He means a lot to the Colts but just not the stuff that gets noticed on FF teams. His football inteligence and ability to pass protect are things that Peyton likes and appreciates (and we all know: Ain't nobody happy if Peyton ain't happy).

So, if he can appear to be durable to them, I think they keep him. And remember, durable is in the eye of the beholder...they kept Sanders.

IF they don't keep him, I think DWIL becomes an EXTREMELY interesting replacement.

Brown has zero instincts running the ball. Not that there are tons of holes, but how many times does Brown just put his head down and run into the back of one of his lineman?

They run the same exact formation and play all the time. Pathetic really. The OC is not that good and Peyton's ability has been able to compensate but the lack of a solid running strategy really hurts the Colts.

Brown has a much higher yard per catch average than any other RB, including Addai, both this season and last season, yet Peyton doesn't look at him most of the time. I think Peyton has an issue with Brown. Personally, I get tired of hearing how the team's problems are always someone's elses--the receivers, the running game, the blocking. Peyton is a whiner and one of my least favorite players. It was fun watching him throw pick after pick last night. They have no running game because the whole offense is geared for Peyton--no formations other than the shotgun and the single back formation.
