Colts @ Vikings - two preseason Super Bowl favorites (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Haven't looked this forward to a game in week 2 in quite awhile.

Historically, I don't believe many 0-2 teams win it all.

If the Colts lose this I will eat my shoe.
Indy is favored by 2. Not sure I see it...Indy's strength is passing. Minnesota can now rush the passer, and the noisy dome will help a great deal. And if Forte can tear up Indy's run defense, WTH is Peterson going to do??? If I'm you, I'd pick out a nice soft loafer.

They sure didn't get to Rodgers, but perhaps we can just chalk that up to Clifton owning Allen...

Were it not for a foolish penalty, Rodgers would have topped 230 yards with 2 TDs against the Vikings. If Rodgers can play that well against them, Manning shouldn't have any trouble. The two big concerns for the Colts that I see are:

1. Can they run the ball against the Vikings?

2. How are they going to stop Peterson?

As mentioned above, if Forte can tear the Colts up what is Peterson going to do to them? If Childress is smart, he'll get Peterson 25-30 touches and won't even try to let Jackson impact the game. Conversely, if the Colts can get anything going on the ground with Addai I think they will win. That will give them the balance they need offensively and allow Manning to be even more effective.

Where did someone say that the Vikings were a preseason Super Bowl favorite? I didn't follow the preseason as much this year as I have in the past, but I don't ever remember hearing that.

To add to this concern Colts starting DT Ed Johnson just got caught with marijauna in his car and Colts have said he will be waived. Reports on local TV news so no link.ETA link to ColtPower article on Scout.com Ed Johnson released

To get to the SB from their conference, bentley. Minnesota and Dallas were most people's choice, especially after Green Bay got rid of Favre, the Giants lost Strahan and Minnesota picked up Allen. Also, the NFC South and NFC West figured to be painfully average. I'm pretty sure the preseason SB odds will back me up on this. Let me see if I can find them.

I like the Vikes in this one.

And usually Manning vs Jackson would make for an easy pick.

But the OLine vs defenses match-up disparity is even more dramatic.

I'll be damned. I really was out of touch this year. Did nobody notice Tarvaris Jackson was playing quarterback for them?

Manning is going to light up Minny's secondary. AP will rush for like 200 yards and 3 TDs. The game will be a high scoring affair, and the stock that is Minnesota's defense will fall even further. Indy puts themselves up by 10 with 2:00 in the 4th on a Vinatieri FG. Indy wins.

The Colts offense will need to be brilliant to win this game. The DT situation for the Colts is a big ugly mess.

I just wanna see ADP and Sanders collide at full speed. On HD. With full surround sound.
Truck Stick vs. Hit StickOh man. That would just be amazing. On a 60" screen. I can already see the Youtube videos popping up with the play repeating 10 times in a row accompanied by a soundtrack of Nelly's "Here Comes the Boom".Who do you think would come out as the victor of such a collision? I'd say Peterson, cause anybody in their right mind does not try and tackle AP up high. And when they do, they pay for it. Just ask Al Harris.I'll take the Colts, just because Tavaris is just that bad and I'm a Bears fan.

I agree. Would be fun to watch.I'm a MN Homer, so I'm biased. I know Sanders bring the wood, big time. But if he and AP meet head on, poor Bob might be out for a while.AP is hitting harder this year than last. When he smoked Al Harris, I just about threw my beer across the room.

Losing to the Pack week 1 and having their shiny, new pass rush shut down might have been good for them. Lots of talk and big expectations went *poof*. Maybe they'll play angry now. If Manning has to throw 35+ times he might get killed. He can't move around as effectively as Rodgers did. Should be a great game and I don't expect either to win easily.

Yeah, I still can't figure out how anyone could consider a team QB'd by Tarvaris Jackson to be a Super Bowl favorite.

They're not alone. Vegas thought enough of them to price the Vikings at 20-1 to win the Super Bowl. That's in the their top ten, if I remember correctly.

Vikings pre-season favorite? Says who? Certainly not me.

T. Jackson couldn't lead a horse to water, forget an NFL team to the playoffs.

Also, they have one of the worst head coaches in the Nfl

Harris actually went a bit lower when Peterson knocked him back...then he went higher later and wrestled him down pretty good saving a bigger play. And as a tackler and big hitter...Sanders >>>>> Al Harris

Historically, I don't believe many 0-2 teams win it all.
It happened last year. And in '01 IIRC.
Only one I remember for certain is when Emmitt held out and the Cowboys started out 0-2.
IIRC, the only three were:07 NYG01 NE93 DAL
So, according to the stats, more teams have gone 0-2 and won the Super Bowl than have gone undefeated to win the Super Bowl. Both teams are in better shape than the 16 teams that won last weekend!! :goodposting:
