I am going to Columbia, SC for business for 3 weeks in April.

Any recommendations for dining spots, night life, bars, pubs, things to do, etc?

TIA

I went to school in Columbia and can help you out depending on what you're looking for. My favorite bars to frequent are : Goatfeathers, SpeakEasy, Hunter Gatherer (gastropub), and Espresso 116. All are more laid back type of places. SpeakEasy and Hunter Gather do live Jazz on certain nights.

Blue Marlin does a pretty nice take on LowCountry fare, very good She Crab Soup.

Your trip will likely coincide with the Indie Grits festival put on by the Nickelodeon Theater which is always a good time. I myself will be driving down from Charlotte for a concert at the Columbia Museum of Art by Of Montreal on 4/17. One of my favorite bands playing at a solid art museum, can't go wrong.

If you're interested you probably can catch one of top-ranked SC's baseball games at the new stadium.

Let me know what other stuff you're into and I'll point you the right way.

Thanks for the feedback.

Definitely going to check out an SC baseball game, maybe the zoo and Columbia Museum of Art.

Is there an area of the city worth walking around say historic yet spots to grab a drink or some grub?

Any places near the campus to avoid/exploit?

Heard they have a food truck in Columbia pumping out stuffed chicken wings (mac & cheese, bacon/jalapenos/cheese, and a few others) :excited:

I highly recommend Mr. Friendly's New Southern Cafe. Absolutely delicious gourmet nouveau Southern cooking. It was by far my favorite restaurant in Columbia and has 4.5/5 stars on Yelp.

I also recommend checking out Publick House and Flying Saucer for places with a good beer selection and solid food.
