Combined TD/Kicker (1 Viewer)

We were having the discussion of whether or not to just get rid of the kicker and/or TD in one of my leagues. I personally like to play match ups with defenses, the kicker I really couldn't care less about, usually pick one up after the draft and roll with him for the year( unless he really turns out bad, dropped etc).

I was thinking that it might be easier to just combine the two and treat it as one team defense/special teams. You take a team and you get the team D and whatever kicker they have on the field or in the case of the fake FG for Gordon a couple weeks ago.. a ST touchdown. Has anyone done this? and if so, is there a way in MFL or any other league management site to get the scoring to work?

As an alternative, you could minimize the importance of K and Defense. Here's how:

-All FGs worth 3 points, no yardage bonus.

-D/ST scoring reduced, does not include PR/KR bonus

Then, you add some other positions, so that relative to the K + D/ST, there are more players and more scoring, minimizing the role of the kickers and defenses.

Next, Start with the 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE + flex lineup, and:

-Add a flex for which QBs are eligible. This is preferable IMO to a strictly 2 QB league because teams can cover with a RB or WR during byes. It almost make the league more interesting given the proliferation of "near-QB1s" to QB2 types - think Hoyer, Alex Smith, etc.

-Add a flex for which players get PR and KR yardage. Probably something like 1 point/10 yards or 1 point/20 yards. So, if you start Sproles, or Tavon, or whatever, you get a yardage bonus - but only for that one flex.

-Add a third flex for which TEs get a PPR bonus. So, you'd want to start you stud TE at "TE-Flex" and your TE2 at the regular TE spot - an easy call for Graham owners, but a trickier position if you have, say, Gates and Witten. This is also inline with the proliferation of TEs in general, the two-TE set, and their growing importance in the game.

That brings the total number of starters up to 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TEs, regular flex, and PR/KR flex, plus the K and Defense. Total scoring goes up by so much that K and D and practically drops in the bucket, and aren't really enough to swing matchups on their own.
