Comcast Xfinity > Negotiating better pricing (1 Viewer)

Many of us are able to negotiate discounts with DirecTV, but how about Comcast?

I've read a bunch of online stories about folks negotiating discounts on TV Programming, but what about Internet?

Anyone have any tips or success stories?

I used to call every year. Go through to retention. Pretty much the same routine as directv. I used to get really good deals. One time my bill was dropped 50% for 2 years. However the last couple years have only been small success.I got internet free for a year once

I had on rep tell me "sir, you just came off a deal so you need to wait 60 days. But I will drop 20 off your bill"

They obviously take notes

Eta: I don't know about just internet.

Missed that in your op. I always have a package deal

My internet went up $15 unannounced and they told me I was lucky it didn't go up $20. I wasn't on a promotional rate either, the cost just went up.

And I said this in another thread...they tried charging me $6 to speak to a customer service rep instead of dealing with the automated system.

Ya in my are their only competition is att which is terrible. No discounts here. In fact, i have never gotten over 10mbs with my 25.mps service. The offerred me 3 dollars off my bill. I hung up.

If I cancel and have my GF establish service at the same residence, how long of a service gap, if any, needs to exist in order to re-establish the promotional rate for the year?

Funny timing, I just got off the phone with Uverse since my discounts expire the end of this month. Like the service but if I bump up to their 45 mb internet and keep the same tv it will cost me about $160 a month. Fidelity cable just ran fiber in my neighborhood and are offering 100 mb internet with most of the same channels (only one I would really miss is NFL network, but I can live with that) for about $130 a month. Seems like a no brainer, just a hassle to have to play this game every year or so.

I doubt there would need to be a gap at all. Be the same as if you sold the house to someone new...they don't know she is your GF.

You may need to call two or three times, but just get to the retention dept, let them know you're thinking of switching to Verizon/Direct TV, whatever and Comcast will play ball.

:lmao: god that would set me off.

Reminds me of getting a lawyer bill while handling my mom's estate. "Review and respond to email from Ned" 0.10hrs $36.50" :hot:

It used to be 30 days

I think that's right. Comcast told me that if I wanted to re-establish service as a new customer in my own name, I had to wait 6 months (even though I had moved). But I was able to use my wife's name to sign up and get the new subscriber rates with no questions asked.

I posted this tip in other threads, but, it's worth noting again because it really worked well for me:

Never call on the phone. Go into an xfinity store (looks like an apple store) not a comcast warehouse. When I cut the cable the lady I dealt with didn't even ask any questions or try to sell me on their packages. She just took all their junk back, signed me up for 50Mbps internet only with no strings and no contract. She told me I'd have to pay $66 dollars for the first month until my bill reconciled, however, come back and see her in one month and she'd give me a better deal. She told me NOT to call on the phone. I went back in after a month and am now paying $44 a month for 50Mbps, not strings, no contract.

That was back in March. I just got my first bill since March for a grand total of $34 for last month. What I was paying for triple play in one month paid for 6 months of internet. And honestly I watch more TV now than I did when I had cable.

I'm pretty sure the people in the xfinity store would extend the same courtesy if you were looking for a tv package as she hinted around the fact that they understand how difficult the other part of their company can be.

I called and just said that I needed to reduce my bill and shut off some services as the bill was too high. Got forwarded to retention and got a deal.

My inlaws have AT&T (TV/Internet). About a year ago, the MIL was bemoaning that she was calling them all day to get a new remote to replace a broken one and was told it would cost $20. I told her to let me call- when I got off the phone, I had a new remote being overnighted, a $20 credit on the bill, the same channels plus movie channels and faster internet service for about $60 less a month than what they were paying before.

She asked me to call again because the deal was expiring and the monthly would jump up about $60 or so. I called- the best I could get was to take the movie channels off, upgraded faster internet (they came with a new modem) for about $10 more a month off the previous deal.

I had ATT&T before. Then someone from Comcast came knocking and I got a killer deal that was 2 years. Expires in Oct. I am going to be trying to get a better deal- I am intrigued about the comment earlier about not calling and going into an Xfinity store. I suppose I can do that and see what I can get. I know when I signed up for the Xfinity before the deal I got was only offered through these door to door salesmen. The 'offers' available otherwise were no where near as good (I looked online and called).

Like I posted in another thread. I love Comcast--my bill runs around $300--some months higher--some a little lower. Without promo, I would be close to $400.00.

We have the triple play, all channels, their 105mb internet and the home security with a couple cameras. We also seem to get 4-5 PPV a month.

I am on a two year contract now, but in the past when I have needed a promo, the key is to call or go in (I did this last time) and play the "I love Comcast. I want more of what you guys can offer." Now they get people that complain all day and threaten to leave, so when you hit them with this, they love it. "BUT (look sad and distressed) my wife has said I need to do something about this bill or she is going to kill me, I swear. Is there something I can cut out to save a few bucks?" Now the CSR doesn't want to be the person that cuts down services, so they will usually do all they can to get you a promo and you can usually even get more services because the CSR wants to upgrade as much as they can.

Note be wary of the door to door guys--they will promise you the world, but they cannot deliver, I got into my Xfinity alarm system with them and they promised me a set rate for life and Comcast wouldn't honor it.

$300 bucks - WTF

I figured my $170 was sky high.

Do you get unlimited HD porn on the 500-600 range channels for $300?

No, just Skinamax. :P The triple play with every movie channel runs like $199.99 and then the alarm is $39,99 and then there are all the taxes and fees and my family's PPV habit.

The problem is even cutting down half of the movie channels only decreases my bill by 9.99--so it just isn't worth it. We just watch too many movies. We use Redbox, have a Netflix account and this.....just crazy.

you expect a lawyer to read and respond to your emails for free?

Just tell them you want to cancel your service. (Make sure you actually can, if there's no competitor they won't deal.) Get to retention, they have tools to keep you. Mention competitors, say they're giving you the same deal for 50% of the price, they'll make you a deal.

Does anyone know of a different Internet service besides Comcast? I've only got Internet and $77 is too much. Don't have u verse in my neighborhood either. Are there any other options?

We had Centurylink DSL. No issues with the service, but it was brutally slow. Called Comcast over a month ago to switch service over to them. As of today, they finally finished my number port...Took them over 1 month, and at least 10 calls/chats with customer service just to set me up with internet and home phone.

FWIW - my DSL + Home phone was >$77...If I had Fios or Uverse or anyone else, I would've gone with them over Comcast, but those were my only two wired options. I'd only consider DSL if you are in town and VERY close to the DSL "stations," otherwise, you'll get less than 10 MBps.

They're in "fall rush" right now so there are deals out there.

good advice but don't go crazy with telling them competitors offers , they all know what promos each one if offering. But for the most part retention is the place to get to

Checked. Fios not available in my area either. Damn it. Can't find any other options

I do this every year with Comcast and haven't been turned away once. Theyre cutting $30 per month on my bill and waive my DVR rental fees

They are the only high speed internet provider available to me - and I think they know it. With the wife working from home, we need high speed internet. Honestly, if internet alone was $300 a month we'd still pay it for her ability to telecommute.

This was me. They put me on a "new customer" deal (BTW, I cannot stand when anyone rewards newbies over long time customers), meaning I get a few extra channels for a somewhat reduced price.

just put the account in another household member's name. Wife, child, dog, whatever. New accounts get reduced pricing for service for a single year. Billing is done online. Viola!

Ask about the Internet Plus Plan through comcast. 25mps + HBO and HBO Go + local and streampix. Started at 39.99 but then got moved to 59.99 after a year. Still a good deal as I don't watch much T.V and HBO has lots of movies and old series. Plus you can access HBO go on your phone which is nice when traveling. You might still wind up paying sixty a month but I got the advertised speeds and the HBO is nice.
