Commish Ethics Question (1 Viewer)

HULLOBUDMAN

Footballguy
I am the long time commish of a sizeable money league that has been in existence for 10+ years now. We recently had one of our owners drop out and replaced him with an "experienced" owner who said he had been playing fantasy football for some time. For the most part, this is a competative league.

I have been offered a trade from the new owner (who happens to work with me) that I feel is ridiculously in my favor. I am 4-2 and this owner is 0-6. I feel like if I take this trade that this could be the last year this league would stay in tact.....it's that bad.

What would you do?

If your league is on its last thread of staying together, then it's only a matter of time. If the league will fold from a lopsided trade, then it's gonna fold anyway, so who cares.

Take the trade, and deal with the ramfications of the league later.

Do you have any checks and balances on trade approvals such as league vote on trade approvals or commish approve or nothing?

If it's league vot to approve trades then do the trade and let the other owners be the police for the trade. If they let it happen then they deserve what they get when you win the championship.

We have not really ever needed any system for vetoing a trade. League has always been filled with pretty good owners.

Whats the trade? You may be overreacting.
P. Manning for Hasselbach and K. Jones
I would suspect that he is making that trade because he is hurting at RB and needs to do something. I don't think the trade is all that lopsided and as long as colusion is not involved then the trade should go through. I wouldn't worry too much about what the league thinks, especially if in the past you have never had a trade review policy. If the league throws a fit, as long as you can both justify why you made the trade then it should be okay.

In cases like this, I have countered a trade offer with an offer that is actually better for the other team. In your example, don't you have a back who is slightly better than KJ who would make this a good trade? And if the difference between KJ and that RB is too much, ask him to throw in another back.Seems like it wouldnt be hard to turn this into an even trade. If you are concerned about a trade being lopsided in either direction, don't do it.

It's not that bad - maybe just because the name on it is "Manning". The difference in points per game in my league between Hass and Manning is 4pts - and we have a pretty good sample size for this year. I think a case could be made that SEA will be in a postiion to throw in almost all their games moving ahead, due to the inept running game. If he thinks KJ will now step into a larger role in the Lions offense and he needs a RB then it may benefit him...

Not to turn this into a rate my trade discussion but he made the offer. I don't see any problem with you accepting it.

You want a terrible trade that smelled of collusion by a commish I saw Larry Johnson traded to the commish of one league I'm in for Rivers last week!

:lmao: That's not a terrible trade.

In my league, Manning is tied with Griese and D. Anderson at 29 PPG. Hasselbeck isn't too far behind at 22.5 PPG.

This isn't a Commish ethics question at all. In this instance, you are acting as an owner of a team, not the Commish. So long as you are acting as an ethical team owner, and are within the rules, then I don't see anything wrong with you accepting this trade offer.

1. With good owners, get a vote and have each owner express about where they think a trade should be vetoed just so the league has an idea where the line is.

2. Take the trade as an owner -or- counter as an owner who would not want to have to veto that trade.

To me, it really depends on what kind of trades your league wants vetoed/be in.

Silver lining: If you take the high road, it may make the league even better. Try not to embarass the other guy during his education.
