Commish/Website Owner over stepping power? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I am currently in a 10 team PPR league on antsports.com

Line ups are 1 QB 2RB 3WR/TE no TE Required

There was a trade that was propsed to me it was:

I give:

LT and J Witten

I get:

Gore and A Bryant

I got a email from the Commish/Website owner saying he rejected the trade because LT is breaking down and since TE's are not required he thinks Witten wasn't as useful.

I feel trades should never be rejected on someones personal thoughts on a player, only collusion or foul play. Plus Witten is as valuable as most WR's in PPR. I clearly will never play w/ that website again, but I just would like thoughts on if I am going crazy, I mean for the next week or 2 I am getting the better end but in 3 weeks the scales may tip to him. Just really frustrated and never seen someone that does not have team in the league jsut straight veto a trade becuase he thinks LT is done?

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

He overstepped his abilities. Not exactly right that the commish can look at trades before they are approved. Quite an advantage.

Send him a link to this thread with everyone calling him a D-bag. I'm sure there will be more of that to come.

Guys, this is an Antsports league. Steve, the owner/commish doesn't have any vested interest in any of the leagues. It's not the best run site, but that's how it goes. But, most importantly, this is what is listed under general rules:

"Trade Basic Processing: * If a trade seems fair to AntSports, it will be approved. * If a trade is marginal, I will send an email to both parties asking to for more info about the trade. Both parties should respond, I'm most interested in the response from the team that is getting the perceived bad half of the trade. If I like the responses and they make sense, I will approve the trade. * Sometimes I see very questionable trades. I will email both parties on these also. AntSports reserves the right to email the rest of the league with the current trade offer and give the entire league a day or two to make a better offer to the team with the perceived bad half of the deal. Just because your team got a good deal and the other team doesn't seem to care, or they even proposed the deal doesn't mean your trade will be approved. AntSports reserves the right to either reject the trade completely or faciliate a better trade. A very lopsided trade effects the entire balance of the league, not just 2 teams. It's important to keep trades reasonable, even when trading for keeper players. "
In other words, this is not like your typical league where guppies are allowed to make guppy moves. That's not the first trade I've seen overturned from there and won't be the last.

I don't think the owner of a pretty large fantasy football website cares what people in this thread have to say. It's the way he's been running that place for a while. If the OP doesn't like it, I suggest he doesn't play there next year.

Wow. Why would anyone play there? That is absurd.

I am not going to play there next year. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over reacting. This is not a wildly lopsided trade, and according to the rules you posted (thanks by the way, makes things a little clearer) he should try to speak with us or facilitate a better deal. But what gives him the right to make him Jerry Jones all of a sudden....I guess his site his rules. But he just lost a customer.

Point is, who cares? It's not the commish's job to manage other people's teams for them. If both teams feel they are improving, it should go through. Not every trade is going to be fair. Too often the team who "got the short end" ends up making out like a bandit. The guy asking for LT might think he's a good buy low, and thinks Gore is a classic sell high. And who knows, Bryant may never be the same this year. This commish is a maroon for putting his nose where it doesn't belong.

You should e-mail him back and say that exact thing. I can't understand why anyone would play at a site where someone with no vested interest in their league could make decisions directly affecting the outcome of their league. He SHOULD be told that he's losing customers because of this.

total d-bag. it's not his right to judge values and make predictions about LT's health.

make him put it to the league for a vote at worst.

The guys should be able to run their teams how they want. It's not a terrible trade offer. I just don't think it's up to a commish to overturn a trade just because he doesn't like it.
It is up to the commish if you join a site that explains that he carries that power. Obviously, the vast majority of the SP feels this way (as do I) that a commish shouldn't have trade veto rights except for obvious collusion. But what you and I prefer doesn't matter when that's not part of the explicitly stated rules of a site where the commish is the owner of the site and runs hundreds of leagues there. Don't like it? Don't join. As for the OP, you're not the 1st customer he's lost as a result of that rule and won't be the last. But, the fact that those rules are news to you also says something about how much you pay attention to a site that you joined and paid money to. That section is under the general rules portion. You have no one to blame but yourself if you joined antsports and never bothered to read through those rules.

so let me get this straight, the commish of the league is the owner of the site antsports and he is basically commish of all the leagues and he can overturn any trade he wants to?

WTF would anybody join a league like that?

I don't think it's a lopsided trade. One guy gets the upgrade at RB and the other guy gets the upgrade at WR/TE. The commish could argue that it's lopsided because Tomlinson will miss some time, but the same can be said for the other end of the trade -- Witten is healthy but Bryant will likely miss sometime. When all parties are healthy, the guy getting Gore & Bryant is getting the best and worst guy in the trade, and the guy getting Tomlinson & Witten is getting the two middle guys. Seems fair to me.

You are correct sir. Bonehead move on my part. I wanted a early draft league and joined the site before reading those rules on trades. Even if I read them I never would have thought of it like a dictatorship. But of well. At least I know for next year, and now more people can become aware of it. My team is very good so hopefully I can still pull some money out of the league, but this is it for me.

While not the largest fantasy football hosting site, it's still not a "small" site and has quite a large # of leagues that fill every year and have been for several years. Just like not every single FF'er visits FBG, not everyone is a "shark" or knows any better. There are plenty of people that are content just shipping off $ and playing in a league. The site has leagues from $50 to $1000 and people play there.

Point is...if you read the rules of the league....that is the Commish's job.....

It is lopsided in your favor, but should still stick. I would tell the commish that next year you want the leage to vote on trades. I will not play in a league that doesn't have this. The two leagues I manage require a majority of NO to reject a trade. I give a 24 hour window to vote. If someone doesn vote than that counts as an approval. Meaning, in our 12 man league we need 7 owners to vote NO in order for the trade to be rejected.

Excellent reason to NOT play there. It's a wonder the site is still up and running given such ridiculous trade rules ... I would say it takes the fun out of everything.A commissioner's job is NOT to determine if a trade is fair, but whether there was collusion or something nefarious about it ... case closed. If someone wants to make a bad trade, that's on them ... nobody else. And this trade wasn't THAT bad. To determine that the owners shouldn't even be allowed to see it is ridiculous, and were I in that position I would leave the league AND ask for a refund.

No site is perfect....

But at least you won't have the Mario Manningham for MJD trades that you see in some leagues with a more traditional commish (approve anything that does not appear to be collussive)....

Why don't you email the commish and ask him what you would have to include to get him to approve the deal....

Because of the crazy decisions of Antsports Steve, that is why Addicts leagues got started. Most of us were at Ant, but he does some crazy stuff and the leagues stink. So Dennis Started the great Addicts leagues. My friend was in a league where he let a player be on 2 teams. It was crazy.

Why would I give more than what is needed to make the commish happy? Bonkers!I should have read the trade rules more in depth, but I am glad everyone else gets to see the insane rules this guy has.

And why do you think you'd be entitled to a refund? Was something done against clearly stated rules? Do you ask for refunds at stores that have a clear sign posted when you buy something that there are "NO REFUNDS"?

Calm down there Officer Bill. I clearly stated it was my mistake. I don't want a refund, I will get a refund when I win the league hopefully, or at least place in the top 3. I get your point, and I stated I did not read the trade rules like I should have.

I'm calm. Did I respond to you? I was responding to another person's post. I read where you stated you realized you should have read the rules and I'm glad you feel that way. I was clearly responding to someone else that didn't bother to read the rest of the stuff that was posted. Good luck in winning your league and I hope you do get some $ back. It's the only reason I still play there in a couple leagues because it's pretty easy money there. For some people, that notion is completely lost because they think the site is stupid when you have a commish veto trades like that. Me, I'll keep playing with the $ I keep winning there.

Because based on the information of the OP, the commish didn't follow the specified rules of the league by contacting both sides to see their points in trying to make the trade."Trade Basic Processing:

I can play the bolding game too. See above. I added a little size to help out.The portion you bolded states if the trade is "marginal". This trade may not be viewed as marginal, thus that portion doesn't apply.

That rule blows. Coming up on trades is how you can win leagues. If the NFL can have Al Davis type moves, why can't fantasy football? I don't condone trades like ADP for Fred Taylor, but that trade was not that lopsided. Leave it up to the owners in the league to vote if anything, but at least let the league see it. Sheesh.

If that trade was made in WK1 it would of gone through. A.Bryant was hurt, Gore had a horrible start.
