Commishes...What to do with MIA owner? (1 Viewer)

I run a dynasty league that has been going on for a while now. It's $50/year, and the owner in question has been a member of the league for about 5 years without any problems. He won the league last year then started 1-4 this year, and I noticed he left AJ Green in his lineup last week and left Vernon Davis on his bench (for Garrett Graham).

At the time I figured he just got caught up in something (Davis played on MNF as well), but it has now been 9 days since his last login to MFL and he still has AJ Green and Garrett Graham in his lineup with Emmanuel Sanders and Vernon Davis on the bench. Additionally, I emailed him 3 days ago to make sure he was still around and have yet to hear anything back.

So what's the play here? It being a dynasty league with money involved clouds things. I don't want to replace him and kick him off the team he's built up the last 5 years over a couple weeks and/or some potential real life situation, but I don't really want to just let his team sit there with injured players in his lineup as well. Even worse, I own the draft pick of the team he's playing against this week so I worry that if I decide that I need to make the appropriate subs for him, the league will see it as shady.

How do you guys handle an owner that goes AWOL in the middle of a dynasty season?

If he pays his money it is his team and his right to screw it up. It does take from the fun, and maybe he should be talked to. See if he really wants to play again next year, but if his money is in for this year, it is his team to ruin. Plus if he tanks, it is easier with a high draft pick to get someone to replace him next year.

That's the issue, I'm unable to get a hold of him. I'm worried something happened to him, in honesty.

That part wouldn't be a problem. The team is pretty stacked.

Peyton

Peterson, Stacy, SJax, Freeman

AJ Green, Cobb, Cruz, Sanders

Vernon Davis

Get him replaced ASAP by a proxy owner to set lineups only until he returns or the end of the season. If possible, ensure the new guy knows it's likely temporary. Nine days isn't enough to full on panic, but someone has to keep the lineup fresh. If the guy's been in the league that long and it's low likelihood he's bailing, you just need to keep his spot warm. You can't let the team rot and give people freebie wins, and you can't have someone in the league with vested interests manage his team.

You know his name. Look up his phone number and call him. Ask the rest of the league if any of them know how to reach him. But unless you totally replace him as an owner, I'd recommend you tread carefully if you're going to juggle his starting lineup moving forward . . .

Note: We had a similar occurrence a couple years ago and a phone call to his home phone determined that he had , in fact, died mid-season. Very sad, but these things do happen and the emails go to the dark side of the moon forever . . .

Had a somewhat similar situation a few years ago with a guy that went to Europe for a week that (without telling anyone) turned into > month. We took a league vote after 2 weeks of not hearing from him and having no lineup changes. The league voted to have the commish plugin the line-up that Yahoo had as the top projected for the week to keep it fair. I would suggest taking a vote of that vs leave the line-up as is. This way the result isn't solely on your hands.

Maybe since he started 1-4 with a stacked lineup, his strategy is to tank to make the team better next year. Lose the battle, but win the war.

Looking closer - he lost Peterson for the year, Cruz for the year, Green for an indeterminate amount of time and his remaining RBs are either backup or time share. So unless you are forcing him to make waiver moves - not sure what you want him to do.

This reminds me of the time back in the mid-2000s when I had an owner who went 0-14 one year. This is a year-round dynasty league, so he was absent from the postseason activities from Jan-March. Our rules clearly stated if you could not be contacted for greater than a month we would pursue another owner. We replaced him. That summer, he reached out to us "hey what happened to my login? It doesn't work." The draft was back in May, and he's coming around July/Aug wondering about his team...it happens.

That's a pretty rude post.

We have this as a rule in our bylaws.

Had an owner last year who got arrested and was in jail. His wife finally responded to let us know he was getting released in a few days. He was a good owner, so the league voted to keep him. (only to have him quit a month later due to more jail time)
