Commishioner/Moral Question (1 Viewer)

I realized last year that on MFL you can see players hidden waiver submissions before they are fulfilled. Don't get me wrong, my competitive nature made it very tempting to exploit this. I know you can turn this access off with a league wide message sent out showing its on or off. But doing this also gives up your capability to fix players technical or emergent issues (which are almost weekly with my guys) that are brought up before deadlines during game days as such, even if I can't correct right at that moment.

Well the real dilemma is this. I've noticed my best friend and co commish has been logging in and out of his team page and the commish login leading up to waiver periods. I avoid logging into commish unless i have to, and especially during blind waiver periods, to avoid being accused and to deter any temptation. I hate losing, but I hate cheating more. What do you do? I honestly doubt anyone has noticed this because it hasn't been brought up. He truly is a trustworthy and a great guy, but if this is true would suck but wouldn't change my opinion on him.

I considered saying stop logging in and out as commish during waiver period, it looks suspicious. Don't know if I should address it at all, but even if small, does give him an advantage you know.

Suggestions?

Turn the functionality off and find other ways to fix the "technical or emergent issues." MFL is pretty good self-service. Not sure why anyone would need so much intervention.

There's no reason any commissioner should be logging into commish account unless there's a specific reason to do so..... (particularly if it's set that commish can see pending transactions)

Is this really that hard?

You turn off access and tell your owners if they screw up their rosters they are stuck with it.

If that's really that impossible, and you must fix something, you enable access, fix it, and immediately turn it back off.

And change the password so your cheating friend can't continue cheating.

This doesn't really make any sense. If he's really "trustworthy" then he's not doing it, right? If you're really friends you just ask him "dude, you're not checking the wire are you?" or "best stay off it so people don't get the wrong idea". And check yourself- if looking at others ww choices is "very tempting" neither of you is to be trusted!! Just kidding but dang. Cheating is cheating- gotta have trust in the deal.

No...he's not "truly" a trustworthy guy. He doesn't think he'd get caught. And yes, it is true, you caught him. It should change your opinion of him.

Why wouldn't you address it? Why not shut off the commissioner access? It isn't small and it does give him an advantage. This isn't hard.

And completely agreed with the other posts that state he shouldn't be a co-commish.

Turn that Commish ability off.

Turn it on to fix problems.

Turn it off immediately after.

Find a new co-commish.
What is the term for something that's more of a no-brainer than a no-brainer?

This is the answer. This.
Yes, this isn't a difficult issue to deal with. I always have ability to see others stuff turned off. If I have to fix something for someone, I turn it on, fix it and turn it off.

If what I did is obvious to the league, like submit someone's draft pick in a slow draft where I put in the message it was submitted through the commish, I leave it at that. If people won't be able to tell what I did, I send a quick league email saying what was done.

Also, I don't agree with others saying the commish won't ever be logged in. There are probably few weeks I am not logged in as commish to do something, if only to enter an article or look up settings to answer questions both from my own leagues, and on here.

Did you share this wealth of knowledge with your League mates? (imho) Its really not that big a deal, unless were talking all out "guppies" ie. "Hey Guys, I dunno if any of you play in other Leagues, But just know this....waiver submissions"

Guppies may receive the info, and instantaneously believe your a Cheater. In other words, they'll believe your "friends" in the League have already been rewarded thru the WW bids ie. MN/CLE RB(s)..

Don't get me wrong, my competitive nature made it very tempting to exploit this.

Yeah :potkettle:

Suggestions?

It might be worth knowing if this "friend" became aware of this "Insider Trading" via yourself ex. Hey Dude, guess what We can do! However for all we know, hes just been looking to find his already decided fate on these players. I guess theres a slim chance that hes been looking :stalker: just in case you decide to play Dirty-Ball at some point...

Basically I only see one real issue..

Its about time to turn off the "cheats", and explain the deal (possibly a link to this post?)

Im a staunch believer in using a small lock to keep honest people honest.

In other words, Lock it up, and lets see ya start playin HardBall...

p.s. There was a somewhat informative post in our forums that dealt with this feature. So its possible the answers you seek :bs: may actually have already been posted.. :2cents:

Have you tried asking him why he keeps logging in?

If there aren't any transactions/activities associated with his repeated logins, he's going to have to say, "no reason". If you're trying to avoid confrontation, tell him that "looking at stuff" oversteps his authority and shut the feature off.

I also agree with the comment that it sounds like you need to dial down the hand holding of your owners...

When you have to fix a lineup or something just turn the commish ability back on, when you are done turn i back off. This shouldnt be so complicated

Theres a line to be drawn on most anything..

Its possible that the Co-Commish is somehow able to use this Leagues bids to judge value in another (ahead of time) which is kinda shady..

In comparison someone could spend an outrageous amt of time reading and posting at FBG involving several Commish who have similar info being shared. Is he still cheating in some fashion? sure, Ill give ya that But don't make it sound so cut n dry!

But I don't really agree w/ calling out someone whose potentially doing what your culpable of having done. Theres probably ten guys in this League who don't deserve to see the League in shambles for no real reason..

Oh yeah hes looked Or He isn't all about Winning aka If you aint cheattin, you aint tryin hard enough..

Trust is or can be a two-way street.. Its possible that the Commish doesn't trust the Managers to stick the Season out, if any special "concessions" are announced...

p.s. I do really see where your coming from Patriot, but you gotta admit We do not have all the actual facts too..

You can turn the access to view other teams transactions off when you don't need it. It's very simple to give yourself access, take care of business and then turn it back off. Even if there is no way you or your commish would cheat, you are better off leaving that access off at all times (until you need it) for the sake of appearances.

If you truly had a "competitive nature" it wouldn't be tempting to cheat, Being "competitive" would mean that you want to win on an even playing field to show that you are the best - wanting to win by cheating shows that you just want to win (either for the money or the "fame") by any means necessary.

Do yourself and your league a favor - go to abilities and lock your cheating co-commissioner and yourself out.
