Commissioner Dilemma (1 Viewer)

I'm the commissioner in an IDP league with 24-man rosters (see signature). Last week, I noticed that one of the teams only has 23 players. I investigated and discovered that this owner made a 2-for-1 trade weeks ago and never picked up a replacement off the wire. As the commissioner, I feel compelled to inform the owner, in the spirit of maintaining a level playing field, since the short benches make every roster spot very valuable. As a competitor in the league, I feel that it's every owner's responsibility to stay on top of managing their own roster and I don't want to set the precedent of watching out for people's rosters, since other owners could complain that he's getting preferential treatment, especially the team playing him this week!

Thoughts?

Thanks!

It's neither your problem nor your job.
Correct answer. I mean, if it's a friend league and you see this person frequently, sure bring it up in casual conversation, but don't go out of your way as commish to provide a favor.

We run a blind bidding waiver process, but you can bid zero.. So, no reason to not fill your roster. It is a friend league, and I'm inclined to wait until he's eliminated from prize contention and then talk ridiculous smack.

You may consider a shallower player pool an advantage depending on your circumstances.

Perfectly acceptable to point it out to create some goodwill too.

You don't have the responsibility, unless he was a deadbeat not making an effort to submit a starting roster.

You may have an opportunity for dialogue and improving your situation.

It was standup of you to point it out, but it's certainly not your responsibility to do so. It's on the individual owners to manage their rosters.

Nothing wrong with saying anything, but nobody could be upset with you for not saying anything. This is one of those nice cases where you can pretty much do whatever you want and there's no wrong or shady answer imo.

This might be a silly question (ok, not really), but what does your rulebook say?

Example: in my league's rulebook, owners are fined for having an illegal roster if they drop below 40 players once the season begins.

I had a similar situation in my league where a guy dropped a player yet never picked up another player. I didn't say anything for a few weeks and he must have finally noticed it himself and picked up another player this week. Commish has many responsibilities and babysitting owners rosters is not of of them IMHO.

Depending on how bad the team is, it could actually be to your advantage to inform him. You're effectively denying a better team a shot at whatever player he ends up picking up. So not only are you being a nice player, you're also helping yourself out by limiting the pool of players that the other owners can choose from.
