Computer guys..help me build a gaming rig (1 Viewer)

Reegus

Footballguy
I'm planning on building a gaming computer with around one grand to spend. I have a friend who will build it for me if I get the parts. I've done some research but honestly I really don't have a clue about the best parts or compatibility.

Any one want to help me out with any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The biggest decisions in your computer are going to be which graphics card, CPU, and power supply you want.

These two websites have Video Card and CPU comparison charts, respectively.

Make sure to get a good PSU that has enough power to support your graphics card and CPU. I have had the same PSU through 2 builds because I bought a good one, and it'll likely last me through another. You don't want a crappy one that could fail on you, for obvious reasons - cheap ones sometimes do.

Then all you have to do is:

- Buy memory - get 16 GB imo, no more is really needed (it's mostly similar, I just choose whichever ones are best reviewed on Newegg)

- Buy a hard drive. Get an SSD. They're pricey, but absolutely worth it, especially for gaming. I pressured my dad into getting one for his build and all he can talk about is how amazing his computer is and how fast it is. He loves the SSD.

- Buy a case

- Buy a monitor

- Acquire/reuse keyboard/mouse

Good luck my man.

Can't stress the importance of getting a good Power supply and buy a decent heatsink.

This is what I put together around Christmas:

CPU- AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz (220W)
GPU- EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 770
MB- ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
RAM- 4x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 2133
Power Supply- Corsair RM850 850W
CPU Cooler- Zalman 110mm 2 ball
SSD- Samsung 840 128GB (OS)
SSD- Samsung 840 256GB (Steam+Games)

I already had a monitor/case and was just upgrading the parts. This cost me around $1700. I'm a dork and wanted the newest shiny things. I didn't really look for deals, I just bought the pieces off Newegg after I did a little research. So, that's my rig, not on a budget. It might give you ideas on what you want to do with yours if you downgraded on the CPU-MB-RAM.

Tips?

- I personally like getting my own CPU cooler rather than get a CPU/generic cooler combo.
- Solid states are outstanding for gaming.
- Be sure that your CPU-MB-RAM is compatible together. Their manuals will tell you.
- If you are on a budget, watch the Newegg deals.
- Go to the Video Games thread and ask Mad Cow. He's very knowledgeable and will steer you right.
