Computer guys question (1 Viewer)

Shatner!

Kid spilled water on laptop and it shutdown. I don't think it was much water because they didn't even realize it at the time. It shut down while playing fortnite and won't turn back on. I found water on the desk and they didn't even realize it was there.

Anyways, I took the bottom cover off, removed the battery, and found a drop or two of water. I let it sit with a small fan on it for a day and a half. Putting it back together now and hoping it somehow just works again.

My question is, there are two push button type things inside, one in each corner. I messed around and was pressing them. Should I have not touched them? What are they there for? Just hoping I didn't mess something else up.

I think maybe you are talking about the speakers. If so, no, you probably shouldn’t have touched them. Would not prevent laptop from restarting if it didn’t totally fry from the spill. Could make the audio sound like crap though.

On the bright side, the laptop is most likely pretty much toast because of the water anyway.

Pretty sure the laptop is done. Get the HD out and get the info off of it.

This happened to my last two laptops and neither could be revived.

Whatever you do DO NOT try to turn it on again, not for a week or so. MAYBE you'll get lucky but sad to say, I doubt it.

Yeah too late. Not worried about losing anything on it. Looks like they get a new computer.

Spilled a beer on my work laptop about 6 months ago on a work road trip.  It was a bad enough spill to shut it down.  Dried it out as best I could (towel, hotel hair dryer) and tented it over the hotel A/C vent overnight.  Did not attempt to turn it back on until I got back to the office a week latter.  Picked up a cheap Walmart laptop to get me through the road trip.

It fired up fine when I did get back to the office other than a few sticky keyboard keys.  I've been using it ever since, but I for sure did get lucky.  :)   Gave the cheap laptop to my mom.

The boss lady was not happy when I called to tell her I would need a new laptop and why.    When I got back and told her it was working fine, she had forgotten about the incident or to get a new laptop setup.  :lmao:

First, remove the hard drive.

Second, put the hard drive in a ziplock bag of dry rice.

Third, put the laptop shell in another bag of dry rice.

After 48 hours, remove the laptop and plug it in without the hard drive. If you get to a boot screen, then turn it off and plug in the hard drive, then reboot.
