computer hacked? (1 Viewer)

shadrap

Footballguy
was on the weather channel(I really was) & screen went red with a phone number to call microsoft.   I restarted clicked chrome & red screen again with phone # to call.  This is new computer with trend micro as protection.

I shut it down again & clicked trend micro & they detected no virus.  Then everything now works.

Is their any way that phone # was legit????

I won't keep this topic up long, just wanted some input because it somewhat scared me with all the info I have on this thing.

thanx

you were not hacked, you just got caught up in some temporary maleware.  Never call those numbers obviously, as they are just a scam to get your credit card number.

Typically just a simple reboot will clear this up.

100% NOT legit.  Sometimes this malware will actually make changes to your browser settings or install something into your startup which will make it pop-up again every time you reboot or every time you start your browser.  If that happens, you'll have to actually clean the malware off to get it to go away for good.  Check out Malwarebytes (free version ) or just google the message on another computer and you can probably find instructions on how to safely remove it.

yep everyone knows weather channel is well known for all of the spam and spyware it uses it is totally like a porn site in that respect in fact you are probably better off just going to porn sites instead of lying about getting a porn site virus from weather channel but hey that is just me talkin out loud take that to the bank bromigo

Download and install malwarebytes, it’s a free app. Run it and let it clean up whatever it finds.

then also run the built in Microsoft anti malware app. Between both of these they will catch anything you may have on that PC.

I was so excited when the IRS started allowing large denomination iTunes Gift Cards as acceptable methods of payment for my unknowingly fraudulent activities over the last 7 years

I am not a techie at all, but it seems like I get them on 2 specific news websites that don't seem like they'd be the ones I should be paranoid about.  And they always pop up after the story/main page, but as the ads are loading.

I'm not a techie either. My understanding of website ads is that websites sell space for ads, and the advertiser runs a series of ads within that space which are chosen by that advertiser, not by the website. In other words, websites don't have hands-on control of the ads run on their sites.
