Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (1 Viewer)

I don't know if I'd be able to tolerate an entire arena of teenage girls singing at the top of their lungs. I'm in the parking lot of a noah kahan concert right now and I'm getting the feeling even this could be a little unbearable.

Honestly, my 20 year old son has never asked me to take him to a concert. I would see anything with him just to enjoy that experience.
You should definitely try. I've been to multiple with both my teenage daughters and its always a great experience. Kahan concert was actually a lot of fun and a lot better than expected considering that parking lot scene. Ha.

If anyone’s interested, the Isle of Wight festival is airing on SkyArts today and beyond. I’m waiting for Peter Hook and the Light at 5:35 (ET). Not sure how much other stuff they’ll air, but worth checking out imo.

My son's not really into music like I was when I was 20. But that's ok. To each his own.

So my 14 year old wants to go see Underoath and Slaughter to Prevail which seems to be like hardcore punk and Russian deathcore

Normally i would take him but same night I was planning to go see Tedeschi Trucks. Haven’t bought tix yet but still planning to go

Told him can go if his friends parents take him, but im getting the impression they’d just be dropping him off at the venue and not going in

So do I
1. Skip my show and take him
2. Go to my show and let him go and hope for the best
3. Go to my show and tell him he can’t go

FWIW I’ve been to the venue before it’s pretty small, standing room only, so I am worried about him getting in the crowd and smashed around. He’s also never been to a show like that and would be going with 2 girls

Joan Jett and Bryan Adams were both great in Tampa last night. Jett played 14 songs and Adams played 26.

Jett still brings the punk vibe, even in her newer stuff. Shes no frills and just puts on a good rock show.

Adams hasnt lost anything, his voice was great, the band super toght, and I was surprised how many of his songs I knew.

That's really young for those kind of shows without at least some parental involvement. (I'm thinking a ride to and waiting outside the show or at a local eatery is the least supervision they should have. But I'm also not a parent, so who knows?) I'm a somewhat death metal and punk vet, but that didn't come until around sixteen, and I really didn't see those shows until I was seventeen and nearly an adult. I went to my first arena (not club) show at thirteen, but it was Motley Crue and Whitesnake, so it was pretty tepid once you got past the guys in drag thing (Crue had moved on from their devil imagery for glam and the Girls Girls Girls tour. I wore my "Kickin' *** on the wild side" t-shirt I got there with such pride). But I'm not with the times, as they used to say, and it may be just fine for your son. (See, I can even date myself by merely writing.)

He’s also never been to a show like that and would be going with 2 girls

And they'll likely be the only two girls there.

I kid.

Sort of.

My wife and I saw The Cure a couple of weeks ago. Outstanding performance and great setlist IMO.

Having said that, we had the absolute worst luck with the strangers sitting around us. Young woman sitting directly next to us was on her phone doing about a million different things for literally the whole show, like it was practically a disorder or something.

Then there was the old dude two rows in front of was doom scrolling Facebook with his screen brightness going full bore for large portions of the show. I think he was posting photos from the show and then constantly checking for likes maybe, I don't know .

Finally, the young couple sitting directly in front of us fought for the second half of the show. I suppose I'm not being fair to the guy...he didn't really fight back, just said sat there and endured being berated.

I’m always amazed at how much other stuff folks do at concerts. Seeing The Cure next Thursday night. I’ll report back on my crowd-adjacent experiences.

We usually get stuck next to some weirdos. Last show wasn’t too bad but we did have some old hippie chicks next to us dancing, but they ended up moving around. Wife was convinced we saw them at another show

We actually lucked out after that, had a quiet old couple one side of us and some dude on the other side that looked like a young Ned Flanders although the wife said he was giving her a serial killer vibe and I could see it

She’s also much more easily annoyed by other people than I am though

I'm in the same boat. My wife was dangerously close to making poor life choices and writing checks I couldn't cash at that Cure show.

Oh im lucky in that mine wouldn’t actually confront a stranger, she just spends the entire show complaining to me

“Why do these people have to stand up”

“This person dancing is annoying “

“This ***** behind me needs to shut up”

“It smells like pot”

“I have to pee”

Went to CMAFest a couple weeks ago and saw several "concerts". Also saw the Psychedelic Furs last year. I'm not a real "concert" guy (IHP), but once there I enjoy them typically.

Jason Isbell in Birmingham at the end of June. Super stoked.
This show wildly exceeded my expectations and reminded me of why I used to love live music so much. I really enjoy Isbell's music but for some reason I've always thought of him more as a great storyteller vs, musician. Which is stupid on my part because he was really hired into DBT as a phonon guitarist. At any rate, this dude can play. And tell great stories. And he has another dude in his band named Sadler Vaden who can play at the same level. The interplay between the two was some of the best guitar work I've ever seen. No exaggeration. And the 400 unit has now expanded to include keys. and a second drummer/percussionist. So they've done some rearrangement of the classic songs that really adds a ton of depth live. Highly recommend checking them out of you get the chance.

Saw The Cure two nights ago in Philly and agree, outstanding as usual. Last saw them in the US in 2016 and they sound just as good and Robert's voice is a treasure. Played 29 songs, 2:45 minutes with tons of energy. Crowd near me was decent, but I did see a handful of people scrolling and leaving halfway through (???) and even saw one person buying an ottoman on FB marketplace at one point. I think it's just what comes with the territory of stadium shows these days.

Not sure if his wife was there, but if you like them with that arraignment, wait until you hear them with her. Only problem is its hard to pinpoint when she'll sit in with them b/c she also has her own thing.

Moe play here last weekend, friend went, not me.

might be the best venue on the planet.

Wish she was but she is touring in Europe at the moment.

Arctic Monkeys was nice enough to schedule some LA tour dates the same weekend as the Raiders/Chargers game, so that is a road trip I just booked.

Morgan Wallen tomorrow night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. My wife and son are super stoked about it as they are super fans of his. I'm a fan by association but am also looking forward to it because I know they are so excited to see him. Should be fun.

Curious how much were they charging? Customer of mine is in the entertainment industry of putting stuff together like comedies concerts etc. last time Walle. was here they charged 200 for back of an ampitheater which my buddy said isn’t close to what should be paid for him

Paid plenty on the secondary market as the tickets were sold out an hour or two after they went on sale.

Costs for these tickets are subjective. I paid what I was comfortable with for good seats.

Yeah not saying not worth going just that he works in the industry and knows ticket market prices. He said if it weren’t for his job he’d never go to a show. Would save the money to go to Florida beaches or cruise instead

I lived in Florida and recently worked for a cruise line so I'm covered there. LOL.

BTW, the concert last night was great and worth the expense (even adding in the $45  I paid for a t-shirt for my son).

Saw Trey and his band at the Stone Pony last night. Place was packed but still a great venue. Place has such incredible sound for being a completely open venue. Love any Trey related show. They play for 1.5 hours. You get a 30 minute break. Then they play for another 1.5 hours. Two shows for the price of one. Same goes for Goose.

I'm gonna be in Vegas in DEC, so I kind of have to do the U2 sphere thing, don't I?

Be there for a conference, and tix are decently priced.
