Conditional Trades (1 Viewer)

I'm investigating the possibility of introducing conditional trades to our league. Wondering if any other leagues used these and how they covered them in the by laws?

Main reason I'm looking to do it is to offer more freedom to trading teams and facilitate more trades. The structure of our leagues makes trading quite risky and I think this could be a way to spread the risk a bit more.

Curious to know peoples past experience of this.

I'm sure there are some - not sure how your league makes it any more risky than any others - the point is to man up and make your deal and don't look back

We have them every once in a while.

I love doing them to other teams as it forces them to be not able to trade picks anymore. If I win championship I got only 2nd but if I dont I get 1st. Now 1st and 2nd are locked

And the one issue for commish in league is to be able to lock the picks and I dont believe MFL can

I think you're probably right tbf. It's just hard when you're one piece away to take the risk.

With regards to managing it (I'm the commish in this league) I was thinking of just keeping a topic on on the board noting any trades of this type. I have to approve any trades before they happen so I could ensure there were no conflicts.

I've never played in a league that had such conditions structured into the league settings, however I've used conditional picks in trade negotiations.

For example: after the 2008 rookie draft, I was targeting Ray Rice in a league I owned McGahee. The Rice owner had also selected Felix Jones in same draft. I offered him Choice and a 2009 3rd(that would become a 2009 2nd if Choice didn't score more fantasy points than Jones in their rookie seasons).

Trade worked out great for me. The trick is finding someone that will hold to the agreed conditions or saving time-stamped correspondences for future use if any of the involved conditions are dealt elsewhere/dropped before they go into affect.

As to adding it to settings, not sure how easy that would be. Not sure settings are that customizable in most leagues.

This is how my league that allows them does it. It doesn't really seem to be a problem.

Yes my leagues have used these since 1997. There is nothing in the bylaws. The 2 teams making a trade just send a note to me as commish stating the "conditional" part of the trade.

Something like top 4 projected pick until 2013 or if team A wins a title the pick improves from a 2nd round to a 1st or if player X scores 150 pts pick improves from 3rd to 2nd round, ect.

We allow conditional trades in my league (I commish),the conditions must be written in with the trade

and in our 5yr history we haven't had a problem but I think going forward I might use the above...

Thanks for the idea...
