#2 is a huge problem that's been transparent for a long time and really, really needs reform.
You shouldn't be able to donate to a particular candidate. If you want to donate, it should be to a general campaign fund that gets divided amongst all of the candidates running. Everyone should be running on equal footing. Run this thing like NCAA recruiting if you have to. No accepting or spending campaign money personally.
Here in the SLC valley we have the worst air quality in the nation because of these giant oil refineries combined with the geography that traps the air in the valley. It's extremely unhealthy, yet nothing of substance is done about it and a bill was recently passed to allow the refineries to INCREASE their pollutants. Meanwhile the oil companies are the largest contributor of campaign funding for the candidates in office. What a crazy coincidence.
I know he gets frowned upon in the mainstream, but Jesse Ventura's book Democrips and Rebloodlicans is a great read outlining all of the corruption of politics within this two party system we've been dealing with forever.
