Confused about Atlanta Defense Ranking (1 Viewer)

Not calling anyone out here. Not making fun of any ranking. Not bashing. Etc.

Disclaimers over...

FBG has the Atlanta D ranked 4th on the top 250. That is a pretty solid ranking.

Their SOS chart has Atlanta as having one of the easiest matchups of the week.

What I don't get is...if they are 4th among all DSTs from this point on AND they have an easy matchup based on schedule of strength - why are they ranked 15th in the cheatsheets?

Thanks!

This comes up from time-to-time. I'd agree that "high go-forward value" + "good matchup" should always equal "high cheatsheet ranking", but occasionally it doesn't.

I believe the standard explanation is that the various pieces are created by different contributors so there may be occasional disagreement.

It's also possible that a SOS ranking, if it's from earlier in the season or a season-wide measurement, may not correspond to what's happening today. For example, Detroit struggled early but their offense has been better recently so it may not be as good a matchup as you'd expect.

I would think this is a bad matchup just cause of the points that detroit will put up. I mean ATl is not going to shut them out, and they will not hold them to a limited number of yards. So if your league scores defense based on yards and points, they wouldn't be a very strong play. Based on funbled, saks, ints, etc only, they will put up good numbers. atleast thats my opinion.

I believe you are confusing the 250 Going Forward with the Ranking and SOS.The 250 Going Forward will probably be on par with the SOS, you said your self "the have an easy match based on schedule of strength" this is different from this weekend (15th ranking for this weekend).

One reflects this weekend the others reflects the rest of the season.

Exactly. So if a team is ranked very highly on the 250 going forward (as 4th DST) AND they are ranked with a top matchup for the week based on the SOS chart ------ wouldn't they be a good play?Yet the cheatsheets for the week have em at 15.

I definitely understand the differences among the three - the 250 forward, the SOS chart, and the weekly cheatsheets. But if you are strong on the first of these and have a nice matchup on the second of these - then there is no reason you should be a bad play based on the third of these.

No, SOS looks at week-by-week, 250 rest of season (total), cheatsheet current week.So if I'm trying to decide on a player this week to play, 250 is out the door. Cheatsheet and SOS will be the ones to look at.

One example from last week would have been Denver, they're only allowing 11pts a game but gave up 34pts to IND.

On 250 (7th) = Looking good the rest of the season

Ranking (10th) = Taking a chance

SOS (6.8) = Bad matchup

All Def are going to have some questionalable match ups. As owners we have decide which way to go. This week I have NE which are only allowing 12.4pts a game..........they are NOT starting on my roster this week, I'm going with OAK.
